This lecture discusses what pathology means, common terminologies and branches
The term pathology is a Greek term where pathos stands for suffering and logy for study. Thus pathology is the study of sufferings or diseases.
Importance of pathology
- Pathology forms the backbone of the medical and healthcare field
- Without the understanding of pathology , you cannot help a patient
- It helps diagnose a disease
- Predicts sequence of events that can take place in a disease
- Helps determine treatment choices
- Helps analyse treatment options
- Identifies preventive strategies for specific diseases
As Sir William Osler rightly said" Your practice of medicine will be based on your understanding of pathology"
