      Fantastic video! 12ProMax here; wanted the 14, but holding for 15 which should be leaps and bounds better.

      @Audio Janitor Thank you, although nothing suggests that the 15 should be offer more significant upgrades than the previous generations.. It is common post iPhone launch click-bait hype.

    Agreed. Raw on the 14 pro is just unreal. Can’t believe how good it is.

    The new ProRAW is definitely a huge step in the right direction.
    I wish Apple would give us the option to disable the sharpening and terrible noise reduction in the other shooting/video modes as well.

    I have a 12 Pro Max. I went to the Apple store to get my watch replaced and looked at the 14 Pro. For what I do and use a camera for, there was virtually no difference. I shoot strictly JPEGs, mostly landscape, no video per se, I also shoot studio type photos of my woodturning pieces as well. I feel no need to upgrade at this time. Yes a 48 mpixel sensor is interesting but no one cares outside of a small group of hard core photographers. However, since the 12 Pro Max, the cameras in smartphones in general are good enough to put my full sized cameras on the shelf. Why? Because the phone is always with me, it is easy tp pull out and take a shot, and the results are great if you ignore Apple's horrible white balance settings and the fact that they over saturate everything. But people that I talk to about it and show photos to like the default results. But to go 2 generations of cameras and basically get no improvements that matter to I am guessing 90% of the user base tells me that iPhones and smartphones in general are stalled as far as innovation goes. Same shape, same size, same irritating user interface, same camera performance. Just change the colors and add a floating window on top that no one asked for or needs. Thanks for the review. I enjoy and read every one of them.

      Thank you, I appreciate that! It would be interesting to know how many people care about RAW. It was actually the RAW capability on Samsung Galaxy S7 that got me interested in photography back in 2016, so it may be interesting for more non-photography people, especially with Apple marketing.
      I think that there still an innovation in iPhones, but you need to skip two generations to see the difference.

    Great video. No ordinary user would notice the differences except in very few situations.The double stabilization of the 14pro may be useful (the stabilization of iphones is already excellent) but in terms of quality we are not far away

    I currently have the regular 13, but been contemplating on getting the 12 pro (due smaller camera bump). I knwo there are lots of differences but I am heavily focused on the camera. Is the 12 pro main camera better than regular 13? Should I opt for 13/14 pro instead?

    Are the raw pictures really raw? Without HDR or the typical apple colorscience applied?

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They are stacked RAW, so both really RAW and with HDR stacking, but user controllable. Color science is applied to every RAW image from any camera, it still needs color science as an instruction to read data from the sensor.

      It is worth it if you want some flexibility for editing without large 48 MP files. You will get quality similar to 12/13 Pro, though.

    To my eyes ProRes video does increase the quality noticeably and makes me satisfied to use. The new 48mp ProRaw images on the 14 Pro are incredible, I use every day. It is the first iPhone camera i have really been happy to use instead of my full frame camera. My process is to edit in Light Room, save as JPG and then delete the Raw. Similarly I edit the ProRes video in LumaFusion, and then delete the original huge files. Even on 1TB iPhone it will soon fill up otherwise

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ProRes makes no difference in video IQ whatsoever.

    Peace, not war, in the Hotel Bristol window. Does anyone ever talk about lens coatings on these cameras, (reducing flare, etc.) or chromatic aberration, or vignetting at wide aperature?

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really because it would be very difficult to tell which imperfections are caused the by the lens design and which by the coating.

    • @amermeleitor
      @amermeleitor 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheHybridShooter add the fact that much of lens distortions are corrected even in raw pictures, at least chromatic aberration, vignetting, barrel or pincushion distortions, lost of contrast and corner softness. You cannot access to the pure raw in iPhones

    Why does the 14 require shooting in RAW and not 13 for better quality?

    • @TheHybridShooter

    • @James-lu4en

    My 12 Pro Max was my first iphone since the 3s and I'm still fine with it. I got an a7RIII and RIV so I rarely use the iphone for anything beyond snapshots. My phone plan is up in January, then I'll decide if I even want to upgrade or wait for an iPhone 15 or even 16... if I don't decide to go back to Andorid instead (unlikely since LG stopped making phones, which is why I switched back to iphone in the first place.)
