One thing characteristic to Van Gogh, is the usage of counter colours, for instance here 34:30, where he is uses green-red combinations. In classic painting these were avoided, because they put the whole painting vibrate. Van Gogh himself said: "there is no blue without yellow". In his paintings yellow-blue is dominating.
By " Counter Colors" do you mean also " Complementary Colors"? For example, the complement of blue is orange. The complement of yellow is purple. And the complement of red is green. Blue, yellow and red are the 3 primary colors and the complement of each primary color is a mixture of the other 2 primaries.

I have always been amazed at Goethe's cleverness and understanding of color theory.
