He was branded an outlaw in his own country. He fell in love with a girl from the English invaders. They had to keep their love a secret and as the song days''He met his maid in the woodland bower where the stream comes tumbling down'' She lost her life when she was drowned going to meet Shane. I am a Tyrone man and ''The Mountains of Pomeroy'' is the unofficial national anthem of Co Tyrone.
_A great favourite of mine...A beautiful ballad. It brings back very happy memories to me. Lovely version...I notice the word "gay" has been binned in some of the recent versions...ha..ha.._
