Repentance for our sins, we might have the chance to spent eternal life with God. His Mercy is unfathomable. The centurion Longinus having experienced spiritual awakening during Christ’s Passion repented for his sins. He even became a Saint.

Actually, Jesus was requesting his heavenly father to forgive the Roman soldiers
for their treatment of him. But Jesus was saying: '' Father, forgive them for they do
not know what they are doing.'' Luke 23:34. The soldiers only followed orders and
went along with the Jewish rulers and the Jews in general who did know what they
were doing. They were raised from childhood to expect a Messiah as prophesied
in Genesis 3:15. The very first prophesy in the holy scriptures. And there are many
more to describe when the Messiah would appear so that there was no excuse for
their not knowing him from the Hebrew texts in all 39 books of the prophets. The
reason too was because the Jews wanted savior like Moses, who freed Israel from
Egyptian in 1513 B.C.E. Jesus didn't appear in the first century to save Israel Roman
enslavement and bondage, but to reconcile and set matters straight between their
God, Jehovah, and them, to establish a new covenant for a Kingdom in which they
would share in governing all the righteous of Jehovah on earth then, and in the
future. He practically begged Israel to have a reconciliation and return to Jehovah
their God, the God of Abraham Isaac, and Jacob. The Romans didn't know anything
about the messiah Jesus Christ, his heavenly father, Jehovah, or the prophesies in
the Hebrew scriptures that would lead to the Savior. For this reason, Jesus wanted
to forgive these soldiers, they didn't know any better. They believed Jesus, as king
of the Jews, was trying overthrow the Ceasars and conquer the Roman empire for
Israel's liberation from Rome. To the disappointed and angry Jews, Jesus like a
harmless little lamb and not a mighty warrior come to save his people with an army
like the courageous fighters of the Israelites of old, doing battle with their enemies.
After Jesus died on the torture stake, frightening events began to happen. The army
officer and those with him watching over Jesus when they saw the earthquake and
the things happening, grew very much afraid, saying: ''Certainly, this was God's Son!''
Matt.27:51-54. It is believed that many more of the Roman soldiers grew fearful of
what they had done because of the Jews hatred against their Messiah. So, no, those
soldiers were forgiven as well as many of the Jews that repented with great sorrow
    and grief. Amen.

It was a a mercy killing for Jesus from the soldier. It takes days to die from crucifixion . Stab wound to the liver takes no time at all. Crucifixion isn't just death , it's torture until death. Christ was not going to live through that. So ending his suffering was mercy. Much as pilot asked the pharasees what Christ had done to deserve this the soldier acted to show mercy. Far above what was shown by Israelites. And so when Christ ascends into heaven the gentiles are forgiven .

The stories of Jesus were taken from other religions. When the story of Jesus was first written down, his left side was pierced, but was later changed in the buybull to his right side to coincide with other religions of the time and the liver was supposedly the part of the human body, where all life emanated from.
If you look at the story 1200 yrs before the invention of Christianity, the all seeing one eyed god, Wotan/odin. He hung himself on the Yggdrasil, tree of life/knowledge, for 9 days. Three maidens came from the abyss, and sat at his feet to give him knowledge of the underworld. He then climbed down, taking his spear, stabbing himself in his side (right side). Sacrificing himself to himself so he could know what man felt when men died.
Stories in the buybull were taken and twisted to accommodate the belief that Jesus was a real person, but he wasn’t.

@@UnyahPe1601 Why do you Christians always condemn those who don't believe as you do? Such hypocrites. You go against his teachers each time you open your mouths in defense of indoctrination. Keep your one sided religion. Yeshuah was a spiritual person, not a religious person. Let that sink in. You just cursed someone based on Your assumptions. You are in essence taking on the role of God himself. You just actively did to the commentor, what the Romans and the pharaces Did to Yeshuah. You have learned nothing from the past because you you have found comfort in controlling the indoctrinated narrative that you and so many others have become accustomed to.

17 : 13 We have bound every human’s destiny to their neck. And on the Day of Judgment We will bring forth to each (person) a record which they will find laid open.
17 : 14 (And it will be said,) “Read your record. You (alone) are sufficient this Day to take account of yourself.”
17 : 15 Whoever chooses to be guided, it is only for their own good. And whoever chooses to stray, it is only to their own loss. No soul burdened with sin will bear the burden of another. And We would never punish (a people) until We have sent a messenger (to warn them).
