I just took out 5 jars of milk from my Nesco. When this popped up on my feed. I did everything exactly as you did. 😊 Except, used store bought milk. Have canned milk for many years and had no problems. So nice to have on the shelf. I usually use my All American but this is the first time with my Nesco. (love m Nesco)
I just learned of this last year.. I buy 2 percent from the grocery store and do this and keep it on the shelf and use it as I need it.. taste better and less waste.
Thank you so much. I live alone and milk goes bad on me all the time. I wanted to learn how to can them but I have a Nesco electric canner. My grandkids like milk but they don’t come over as much so I just don’t like it going to waste.
I’ve used my stove, top canner for milk, but not my Nesco. With the stove top, I use room temperature milk and then slowly get it up to full heat and build the pressure. I never thought of heating it first and putting it in the Nesco warm and then bringing it up to temperature. I knew that room temperature milk in the Nesco would take it up too fast and likely cause it be more caramel color
Thank you so much for sharing, my husband just bought this canner for me. I was afraid to can milk using it, pulled out my stove top canner. So glad that I found your video. 😊😊
Wow, only 1 minute. That's great. Thank you for this video! I was taught that when the timer ends, I need to unplug the machine for deventing. You didn't do that so I guess it's not necessary. It's nice to learn new things to make it easier.
Wonderful video... Just saw this in my feed and had to watch. I hope to try this method soon. One question though, how long does it keep in the pantry?
I have a young lady that gives me frozen quarts of milk from the food pantry. We don't care for the taste but use it in puddings and cooking. I need the freezer space so i'm going to that a few quarts and give this a try in my Nesco
I have looked for a chart that shows processing times = I have a Nesco too. Doing this milk would be wonderful -- it is just me (I live alone) and I waste milk - a qt isn't enough for a week, but 1/2 gal is too much.
Just pulled out 5 pints from my Carey. So far it looks like milk and seems like they all sealed before I pulled them out. I've been a WB canner for some time but this is my 1st run in my Carey. Thanks for the info in your vid.
I used my electtic canner to do raw milk in quarts. I had siphoning, but they did seal well. I was very careful with head space etc. but i dont know what caused the siphoning . I love my electric canner!! Im glad to have found a video canning raw milk. Thank you so much.
I have a electric presto pressure canner totally love it....wonder if it works the same as the nesco to vent for 10 minutes. i want to try this tomorrow because were going to get some fresh heavy cream from a farm and i would love to try canning it. Haven't found a video for heavy cream for this electric canner, would anyone know if it would be the same process?
That’s pretty cool. I’m still new and not sure if I want to try my earlier stuff😊. I’m glad I found your channel. I have the same canner. Now I gotta go back and watch some of your other videos
First video of yours I have watched. You have a great personality! Loved listening and watching you. Just got a Carey canner so I’m watching any videos I can find. So far I have liked your best!❤
Hi, GREAT vid especially for the Nesco canner. New to all of this canning stuff and was doing the happy dance when I found you doing milk. Now, here comes the question ... does this method work with heavy cream and half/half as well? Thanks for your time. Cheers
I just got a Presto digital electric canner. I don’t have any other pressure canner. The function of it is different than the Nesco. I would LOVE to know how to can milk using the Presto electric canner. Thank you. This was a great video, just doesn’t align with my canner
I have the Presto as well. I'm going to try canning milk tomorrow. Have you tried it yet? If so, I'd love to know how it came out. I have canned chicken, and it came out delicious!
@@wrightfamilyhomestead I did, but the fresher the milk at time of canning seems to be the ones that lasted. If it was on its way out, those didn’t last on the shelf. I do have some that have been on my shelf for 2 years and they’re fine :)
I just found your channel the other day and I'm so impressed by you and your tips and tricks for canning. I do have a question for you though. I have an electric Presto canner so its a bit different from yours. It has a canning button as well so if I decide to do dairy products (milk) would I put everything in at room temp and allow the pressure to build on its own. Then pressure can it for 10 min and let it come back to temp. before I take the jars out?
I get no vinegar when you wipe the rims, but we use vinegar in the crock of water to prevent cloudiness on the jars. Are you saying not to use it then either, or just on the rims?
@@carriegroell9487 Ive never used a mason jar vaccuum sealer, so Im not sure. I would think things such as long term dry goods storage. Maybe even extending the life of jarred foods in refridgeration.
@@carriegroell9487 The mason jar vacuum sealers are only for dry goods... you can pack crackers, chips, flour, rice, dry beans, dry cereal, etc. in mason jars and vacuum seal to remove the oxygen and extend their freshness. I have tortilla chips I vacuum sealed in jars when they were on a big sale over a year ago - opened a jar recently to make some nachos and they are crispy and fresh just like the day I packed them. I also do the same with pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds - so far, seeds I packed 3 years ago are still fresh as can be.
It is in my old canning book so they used to think it was okay. I wonder if they stopped recommending it because of a quality issue not a safety issue. They have stopped recommending some veggies because of the texture not safety. They are in my old books I have.
if i buy milk from the store on sale rather than freeze can i can that milk...it be like double pasturized like you buy in the shelf stable tetra packs? let me know

Fun fact: Mason jars are 1 quart all the way to the rim (just before over flowing). They are only 3.5 cups to the top of the shoulder. 💖🌞🌵😷
whenever I find whole milk on sale for less than 2.00 a gallon I buy at least 4 gallons and go home and can it.
