I always did South Mtn from the north as it takes less time and you have good cover. Then you draw him in to attack the river line and use 24lbers as you roll up the north while he hits the river. Then use some long range snipers in the south too mess with his flanks and artillery. It is quite easy to bag 10K plus men for a few thousand of your own.
Cavalry has been my secret to winning Antitam and using them at the last minute to take the three goals that he is going to take from you.. at least 9 of them
I wish you would have had Zooks brigade where the skirmishers were and Zooks skirmishers where the brigade was. Other than that fun battle. Surprised that the confederates ran out to meet you, but then again it is the hyper aggressive legendary mode.
Looks like a nice mission for Skirmish Cav (saddle down in the woods, when appropriate) . Also, Snipers (over one or two artilleries...) could have a field day; - lots of cover, and lots of enemy infantry sitting around.
I usually attack sooner in this battle from close to where Zook was, maybe a little bit more to the west but with a lot more brigades. That being said casualties on both sides end up much higher. Not sure if that's the best thing or not. I do second the cavalry approach to Antietam. After the 1st part of the battle there's actually quite a bit of open ground to use the cavalry on. Be sure to keep them active if you can.
get to 5 corps asap and fill out the army with 500 man brigades, that will keep the scaling down and still allow you to use a full force structure in the smaller battles. It will also allow you to slowly build up experience without using up all your manpower.

I've done the flank south and the flank north tactic, never gone up the middle! Can't decide which one seemed more effective. Nice win!

Nicely done ..imho longrange arty is cruical in this one ....
