I am in Mich zone 6b and I grow my strawbs in plastic bus bins and terra cotta containers on my patio. Last November I set the containers on pieces of styrofoam, wrapped the outside of the containers in bubblewrap, topped them with lots of pine needles and set them close to the house. In March I get so excited to see bright green tiny leaves emerging from the crowns! I love strawberries so I always try to overwinter and propegate however I can.

I’m wondering about this as well.. I’m in 5b as well and last year all my plants in the green stalk died.. I mulched them and had them on my back patio.. I haven’t replaced them yet, but I’m looking to.. fall or spring which is better?
I plan on starting strawberries in the spring. I have one GreenStalk, not set up yet. Hope to get a couple more. Thanks for showing the details about the different types of strawberries and their care. They seem perfect for the towers.

I'm getting my first Greenstalk tower next week! I'll be planting strawberries on at least 5 levels. The plants are $1 each now at the local nursery. Best way to grow strawberries IMO. Keeps the slugs away too!
Thanks for this video. My strawberries are looking pretty beat up. This is going to be my job for tomorrow. It will help me stay out of the 98 degree weather. Soon it will be fall I hope.🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓
In zone 6b we get freezing temps for longer and more extreme than you do. First year growing strawberries and I planted them in plastic planters. Question is should I move them out of the planters and place them into a raised bed that I just harvested from (sweet potatoes) and is now open? Will they do better there for the wintet? Next is I have no mulch and I heard stories about straw killing plants this year because of herbicides so I'm scared to use it. I do have tons of sweet potato vines and leaves though. And in the fall around here there will soon be regular leaves? What should I use? I don't want them to die during the winter when I feel like I worked so hard to grow them this year. I'm brand new to all of this and feel overwhelmed. Anyways, advice appreciated on what to do?
Lucky you..! I am in zone 3...I read that it is good to wait for 2 frosts before winterizing the strawberry plants...also can I use pine needles..( I have lots!).. Or should I use straw as mulch for the winter..!.. Thanks great video...I am in the province of Quebec..
I've been delaying doing something with them [Zone 8] because I'd never had them in verticals before and my regular larger container are just a mess of green! Thank you so much for this video today!!

It's normal for the roots to look dead but the crowns should of looked healthy.
why not pour water in the top watering container and let drip down? And can I use chicken compost ? instead of granular
I do that during the year. This is to really sort of super charge the pockets and distributed the water soluble right to the roots.
