259 had some serious power in that vertical disk. It's a shame they lost the belt because otherwise I think they'd have gone to the semi-finals for sure.
fun fact: the vader team brought another robot that you may know called IG-88 wich is in fact named after an assasin droid from star wars. i know my star wars, dont argue with me.
Seemed to be better effective than it's previous wedge, if it reprised that design with the ground clearance of that robot... both Vader and 259 would easily flip and cause damage..@@Wrathchild1995
259 were on top of battle against wild thing, but their vertical disc stop working because they lost the weapon drive belt and they were immobolized at the end of the battle. the judges made a split decision.
1:41 I wonder if Craig walked backstage afterwards and thought "Wait a minute, America were doing this 3 years before we started. Hell, they invented the sport!"
Nah, we invented the rules as well as the sport, including banning weapons like explosives, untethered projectiles, electromagnetic weapons, liquids, etc. But you're half-right. America had better, stronger arenas so spinners were never banned in the US like they were in UK live competition after Robot Wars went off-air. Between that and no official 'out of arena' area, powerful kinetic weapons came to dominate the American scene while flippers became the robot of choice in the UK.
@TheSmithersy The engineering required to get that to work would be crazy impressive. Plus, explosives are still banned so the bullet would have to be launched with something other than gunpowder. In the newer Battlebots they actually lifted the ban on untethered projectiles, but not explosives. There is a speed limit on the projectiles, but the show now has a robot named 'Double Jeopardy' that launches a 2 kilo slug at a 'low' speed with an air cannon.
Not really. Was on top while the weapon belt was on but as soon as it was off it spent the rest of the fight running away and getting pushed around. It was basically on top for all of 50 seconds and then that was it.
I was disappointed when I saw Wild Thing's design for this season. It's so unoriginal now, season 4 and 5 looked much better. Their season 5 design had a flipper and a horizontal spinning disc, what's wrong with that? They nearly beat Chaos 2 with that design.
According to the Wiki, Nick Adams was worried about how vulnerable the armour and wheels were to spinning weapons and felt the design needed updating after never getting past the semis. The switch to a thin vertical disc was made to gain some more weight that could be put into the armour. All the internals are pretty much just ripped from the old robot. I have to say, while it makes sense why he switched at the time, I also hate the redesign. It looks terrible, the ground clearance is HUGE, and that disc just doesn't seem that useful. Against any half-decent horizontal spinner that disc would be destroyed instantly. Tbh I think if they had wanted more armour they would have been better just going back and beefing up the series 4 design (no disc) and adding some protection around the wheels. Even without the disc they managed to get a lot of effective use out of just the spiked lifting arm in series 4.
Wild Thing I don't think I ever saw it break down in a fight despite all the damage it used to take. Its weaponry was always bad. I think if they just took that same solid engineering that made a robot that is basically unkillable, and put a pneumatic flipper on the front, they could've been champions.
Now, i am no USA lover... but saying they were late and just joined the wars when it started there? Must have hurt for marc thorpe woth everything he had gone through with it anyway haha
259 really got robbed in retrospect. both their weapons had stopped but it did way more damage than wild thing and was only immobile because it ran over its own weapon belt and got beached? even with the belt off it wasn't exactly losing the pushing match
Yeah, in terms of damage it probably did a little bit more than S3, but S3 had much more protection around the disc mechanism, and it was invertible. As seen in the Wild Thing fight, that weapon drive belt is far too exposed and easily lost.
I'm not going to lie at first I did not like the new design for Wild Thing but it very quickly grew on me and it did really well as the underdog that just managed to survive and win because 259's weapon failed seriously 259's weapon is up there with Matilda's flywheel when it comes to sheer power and the battle with Vader was intense and close as hell and it's a real shame that this was the last series for Wild Thing and the Adams family on Robot Wars and we sadly lost Nick Adams back in 2020
Spioler alert: A heat with vader and 259 and wild thing wins i liked wild thing but series 6 wild thing just sucked their blade did almost no damage thats why its my least favorite series 6 heat i dont know but i think 259 and vader would have a better chance in the semi finals it kinda does remember me how mousetrap made it to semi finals in series 4
Man, it's like they just completely ignored the fact that Wild Things weapon was broken on the first contact it made with 259 lol. Also, 259 was high centered on its own belt, but even after it lost its weapon, it was doing the pushing... :/
No Spoilerino for the next heat, but i've always felt this heat was really lacking, and heat F was far too stacked, switch a few over and i think this one would of been a much more enjoyable heat. Also, my least favourite robot of all time, Wild Thing, with a fucking terrible redesign, boring heat for me.
17:40 Oh ffs is there a point in the series where the girl managed to make that damage cam frame properly? Would an arrow pointing up near the lens be too complicated? I thought you were english, not americans
This one had 259 and Shredder in who are both very good. Wild Thing even this weaker version is just the best built robot. Never broke down in 4 years and two extremes!
Sorry for the delay lately, guys, but here's Heat E, with plenty of action! 2:16 skips the spoilers for the Heat.
Craig Charles , he is awesome as RobotWars Presenter -he is the best RobotWars Presenter 💟💟
259 had some serious power in that vertical disk. It's a shame they lost the belt because otherwise I think they'd have gone to the semi-finals for sure.
2...5...9...ACTIVATE
For the curious, the victims of 259 in the qualifiers were apparently Chip, Collosus and Splinter.
Wow, it took out splinter on route to the televised shows!
And I guess Collosus were immobilised last since they made it to the main stage anyways?
fun fact: the vader team brought another robot that you may know called IG-88 wich is in fact named after an assasin droid from star wars.
i know my star wars, dont argue with me.
in the arena its hard to appreciate how large they are
wow, exciting stuff
love the arena.. awesome!!
I had such a crush on Isabelle Adams while I was growing up.
The only good thing I can say about this redesign of Wild Thing is that it kept that "Never Say Die" drive power that helps it keep on going.
Not a fan of Wild Thing's re-design in this series. Always preferred the design from Extreme 1 and Series 5, with the flipper bar and spinning disc.
Seemed to be better effective than it's previous wedge, if it reprised that design with the ground clearance of that robot... both Vader and 259 would easily flip and cause damage..@@Wrathchild1995
Phillipa!!!!!!!! Finally all the way with the magnificent weapon gag 😊😊😊
259 is just a circular saw on a base. Simple design but exposed weaponry
RIP Nick Adams.
You know what the Vader team should've dressed as?, the Empire from Star Wars
Hell yes!!! XD
24:34 Never thought I'd hear JP swear....
I feel the original Wild Thing would have performed better against 259

I can imagine their version having machine guns and rocket launchers attached, with the audience ducking for cover lol

Jonathan Pearce- 'armour' and 'armament' are not two names for the same thing.
Wild Thing, a dogged robot.
6:35 Infinity funny suicide
One of my favourite heats of Series 6, 259 so impressive. Aftershock the modern equivalent perhaps?
You think that way. It was shit
259 basically pulled a Tauron or a Haardvark. It was on top the entire right only to die right at the very end.
Not really. Was on top while the weapon belt was on but as soon as it was off it spent the rest of the fight running away and getting pushed around. It was basically on top for all of 50 seconds and then that was it.
Even today i still hoped 259 dindt lose that belt wild thing was just a free win in the semi finals 259 could have done way more damage in semi's
Even though 259 perform brilliantly against Wild Thing, but at the end of the battle, they were immobilized.
1 sharp blow from Vader killed Aggrobot 3. From Joe. X

like #3! and NJGW what is your favorite robot ever? I always liked hypnodisc!
Terrorhurtz!
yeah, he was ok, but his accuracy gave me a low opinion. Although I will admit that in the new series, he is much better.
Mine's Behemoth and Panic Attack
12:02 thirce (3 times a semi finalist).
Wild things need a better driver.
Damage cam sucks
259 potential champion? Dont be kidding, it had JUST the damage, nothing more. Flip it over/bash it hardly and its done

With the exception of series three heat n every heat with wild thing is one of or if not the worst heat in the series

What about Series 5 Heat E? That was a great heat!
@@TequilaToothpickassume you mean Vader , not shredder since shredder were in heat d?
