This is the "Moniteur Jungle" course of the CEFE (Equatorial Forest Training Center), ruled by the 3rd REI. It's the selection to become instructor at the CEFE. The CEFE provides a lot of other trainings, pending on the troops they receive, from basic acclimatation to the equatorian forest for troops who just came in Guyane, to "Combat Jungle" that's displayed, between others, to the French marines CRAJs (Jungle Research & Action Commandos) of 9th RIMA based in Guyane. A hell of place indeed...
As Americans, we have a great deal of respect for the FFL. They match some of our most elite military units, and we're proud to have them as an ally. Viva La Legion!
"I asked during their posting, have they fought? or is it one giant training mission." Yes, they have fought. In Desert Storm, in missions in Africa, counter-terrorism, etc. Ces Legionaires sont incroyable. Ils servent La France avec l'honneur.
I was watching a documentary about some gentleman that were going thru Legion training for a Month. They were having quite a time of it. I cannot imagine going thri it for real. My hats off to them. Respect
Not a Legionaire however a veteran of the U.S. Army. I would srongly recommend being in the best shape possible. Your life is going to change dramatically enough, you don't need the worry of trying to get in shape on top of learning French, and learning to be a soldier all at the same time. Be as prepared as you can before you show up.
I like chef Lopez's dedication. I would want to be under his command/training cos he looks like a genuine guy who wants to bring the best out of an individual.
Thank you- I respect all peoples who strive to avoid conflicts and learn to work together in peace. People who speak poorly of anyone are at a low level in their own society, therefore, they need to put down others. I have met Jews, Greeks, Arabs, Muslims, Catholics and all have good people, "if" you look for them. As for this video--It makes me a little proud of the Tradition, and proud of those non-French citizens who chose to join this great army-
@emko83 SEALs and Legionnaiers are meant for totally different tasks. SEAL (and other such units like Delta, SAS and the like) are meant for small-scale action involving handful of men, whereas Legion is for more large-scale warfare.
v=ON0PF_QxPgY 1st lvl is SURVIVAL IN JUNGLE 2nd is TECHNIQUES and start at 03:00, the guys are carrying the soldier for 30miles in the closed jungle and the temperature is 104 F. 3rd lvl is OPERATION in the jungle, where they simulate combat... starts at 06:00.. its the operation in case the borders are invaded
Basic entry requirement are: Run 5 miles with 12 kilogram/25lbs ruck-sack in 55minutes. Climb rope without using feet only hands. 30 press-ups, 50 sit-ups 30 mile March carrying 23 kilo/50 pounds in one day. Complete 8 chin ups perfectly. And about 12 stages of mental tests.
My uncle was in the FFL and is i hadn't been accepted by the navy, I'd be in the FFL. I'm french and I love this force, and i do believe they let guys with glasses in. For more info you should contact a recruiting center. They'll tell you wether you can enroll or not
Foreign legion: - Part of the french army - French instructors, - French soldiers and foreigners, - One of the best armies in the world kicking ur english ass ;) Vive le Roy et la France ;)
I don't know if there are special forces in the Legion, but from what i have heard about them I think they are all special forces on the way they train and fight!!! THEY ARE ELITE!!!

WOW. Its the best combvat unit. Not just united europe, today its the united world! I wanna go there! Im swiss and A athlete, Im the best in some areas in Züric and region. Je weux aller avec les heros de la monde avec al france!
The French Legion did one of the longest march through Africa during the second war...some incredible distance...trying to find info on it...I guess the march to Moscow during the Napoleonic wars would be pretty hard to beat...the return trip was in appalling -20 weather- found grave sites in Velnius- found that soldiers' bones were deformed under the strain of these marches..we don't know what pain is!
From what I understand, even the US Marines can't complete the jungle obstacle course that the Legion has in Guyana as fast as the Legionaires. God bless the Legion. They are the only guys I'd EVER admit to doing anything better than a US Marine!
Of course, Norsefire6-Nothing is more meaningful than men speaking in good, constructive discussion. Not bashing and cowardly insults. I respect you. Your comments are well aimed. Thanks for the nice compliment on the Legion. Where are you? Lebanon? Lebanon has a French military history.
You have to go to one of the recruiting centers in France. You'll have a sports test (you wont have any trouble with that) a medical checkup (scars, tatoos etc are OK in the legion, bad teeth can get you kicked out) and a psychotechnic test (eg: a series of numbers, you have to find the pattern and guess the next number). Failing any of these three tests automaticaly disqualifies you. After that you sign a 5 year contract and have to survive first 8 months to be "officialy" legionnaire.
No they are not trained same as French Regulars. as mentioned training is 16 weeks basic. then followed by the regiment they join training and commando training once they reach certain physical level. since special forces in French armed forces are are all called commando. they attend the same commando centers.
I conceed that it would have been very difficult if not downright impossible without the aid we recieved.Respect to everyone for their valour and bravery.
but spartan children were also forced into military training at a very young age, were they expirienced brutal beatings to the point of TRYING to kill them to see if they were tough enough. they were taught that stealing from the local market stalls were the best way to make a living and werent allowed to eat any other way, and if they were caught, they would be wipped even though they were TOLD to. they were also turned loose in the wilderness during the winter to see if they would die or not.
@HondaNsrFan our two contry should push deeper any kind of cooperation specialy at the millitary scale we have common interest on both strategic and economical front and our tragic past created after 65 year of peace some very strong link
OK i am going to post this on all the videos cause i need a fast answer and the legion cant tell me through email for some reason what is the IQ test like is it harder or as hard or little less hard than the American AsVab
in the legion if you don't speak french it will be difficult for you to understand orders and being understood by french mates, generally all soldiers speak french it's fundamental
no commando troops have other practises. That is "légion étrangère" (foreign legion). It's a part of french army but conponed by foreign people. It s the hardest corps in french army. US marine tried sometimes to equals them during practice but they r not able. Each legionnar if they die or be injured in fight, he ll be naturalized French. And i respect this ! Foreign Legion has been made by Napoléon.
@Lighttown1913 well i have backpacked around South East Asia and Australia - so I do at least have that under my belt!! And I have lived in Africa where we went out in wooden fishing boats where there were crocodiles and hippos!! But as far as jumping into a river which may have crocodiles or Pirhana's errm me thinks me will take a raincheck!!!! lol
No, you must serve until your 5 year contract is over. After that you can leave or sign another contract if you want to stay. You must be younger than 40 to enter the legion.
Question: If I was charged with a misdemeanor for drug paraphernalia in the U.S. over ten years ago, will that prevent me from enlisting in the French Foreign Legion? I have no felonies and am not a drug user. If anyone knows the answer to this question, that would be much appreciated! Thanks.
catracho tienes que ir personalmente a Francia, a Paris o a Aubagne, es donde unico hay oficinas de reclutamiento, Que yo sepa nunca ha habido un catracho en la Legion.
there are the GCP in the 2nd REP... but they wouldnt be SF as such, they are an advance company that go in and provide LRRP for the other companies in the REP.
@seabornegrad 24 km with a rucksack is something everyone can do... I personally did a 30 km timed rucksack run when I served as a conscript in the norwegian army.. And I'm not in great shape
You don't need to speak french to join but to serve yes. If you don't know french they'll teach you but to prepare before doesn't hurt. Good luck if you want to join
Would that say every "legal" can join? I have some sort of "mental illness" no big deal lol - but im not sure of the army in my homeland want it, maybe the FFL accecpt it?
I came to the US at 12. I've lived and breathed everything American. English, television, music, geography, history, government, friends, girlfriends. US politicians have tried to give me a opportunity to earn legal status for a decade, DREAM Act. I'm growing older, 25, I find myself at a crossroads. I go back to a country where your tax money pays for a moving truck worth of liquor for the president while 50% of the population is in debt. Or stay in the US, keep living like a fugitive.
I have one weird question about the FFL. Is it open to anyone who has been religiously persecuted because I want to get away from my JW mom really bad. Unfortunately I'll have to give up my good life here in the U.S. if I ever join up.

You must be the most honest American in the whole history of TH-cam. I salute you! Why can´t there be more Americans like you??
Not a Legionaire however a veteran of the U.S. Army. I would srongly recommend being in the best shape possible. This spanish drill seargent is a real badass !!
While they were doing push ups, I saw one guy in the back row doing granny push ups. If he gets caught, he's gonna get the shit kicked out of him.
props for using paint it black. made the video just that much better

@JOKER5526 Now there is a perfect example of the kind of thoughtful, intelligent commentary that is advancing international relations.

I want to join. But I fear that learning French will be too hard?
The French Legion did one of the longest march through Africa during the second war...some incredible distance...trying to find info on it...I guess the march to Moscow during the Napoleonic wars would be pretty hard to beat...the return trip was in appalling -20 weather- found grave sites in Velnius- found that soldiers' bones were deformed under the strain of these marches..we don't know what pain is!
These guys look like badasses. Their hats are outrageous, too.
yes, anywhere in the world.
THE BEST OF THE BEST..

At the beginning, during the formation of 4 months, all the future legionnaires learn basic French (something like 400 of the most useful words.)
Of course, Norsefire6-Nothing is more meaningful than men speaking in good, constructive discussion. Not bashing and cowardly insults.
I respect you. Your comments are well aimed.
Thanks for the nice compliment on the Legion.

Rolling Stones - Paint It Black
@Boardcasty Really and where did you serve to compare their training to yours. Have you done jungle warfare survival courses?
I conceed that it would have been very difficult if not downright impossible without the aid we recieved.Respect to everyone for their valour and bravery.
