Perhaps this video is a bit advanced for those not familiar with Fusion 360, this assumes you already have some basic Fusion 360 skills. But what I like about it is that this is a really quick reference how to take a sketch and turn it into a 3D object. I'm sure if I wanted to replicate this that I'd start and stop the video dozens of times.
For those that are interested in picking up some Fusion 360 skills and doing this, I found several courses on TH-cam for free, and started watching them. I like the one that starts off with the 3D LEGO brick, but others are well done as well. Also Bob over at I like to make stuff has a paid course for $120, which is a fair price for all the work he put into his video tutorials.
One day I hope to be as good as Derek... man, you rock!
Even after using Fusion360 for years this is the first video that’s really helped me understand how to do this! I usually make life hard for myself and draw from scratch 🤦🏻♂️
This is just an excellent video all the way around! I've been wanting to get a 3d printer, but software/design fear had been holding me back. This tutorial really helped me get over that fear. Thank you!
Glad I could help!
Derek....Thanks for posting this.... just what I needed. I used your tutorial to create custom fence emblems and am printing them as I write this.
Really like your tutorials and although I have been a haunter and tech director for live theater for years, I always find something new with your videos. Keep it up!
Fantastic!
I normally love your vids Derek, but personally, for me, this video was way above my tech skills - in fact my brain hurts. I get that there is probably a lot of people that use this kind of software, and indeed 3D print things, but for me, and perhaps a lot of people, it probably just confuses us! So I appreciate that you're trying to reach and entertain a wide breadth of viewers, but I just like the jolly old 'build a halloween prop out of (name material here)' videos. Just my view. I still always look forward to any videos, regardless of topic!
I appreciate the feedback! It’s always been my intention to help educate viewers, and as my interests and knowledge changes and expands I’m trying to bring you all along with me. While this video may feel a bit outside your current skills, it’s my hope that (if you’re interested in learning 3d modeling) it’s explained in a way that will help you to gain confidence.
Prior to learning 3d modeling I didn’t think it was useful in Halloween projects, but the more I learn the more I realize that it’s just one more tool to help bring my ideas to life.
Thankfully, it’s not the only way to make props, etc. and we can find what works best for each of us.
Thanks again, and thanks for watching!!
Great video. You might want to try the Hole tool because you can add the chamfer at the same time. In your case it's a little awkward to do since you have to start on the inner surface of a curve. The Hole tool has standard screw sizes built in so you don't have to remember the right diameters. Optionally, it'll do threads.
Thanks for the tips!
Awesome as always
Thank you!
Wow!
i like the fence details in the haunted mansion too, but not this one as much, my favorite are all the heart shapes with the sharp angles, they're unique to the magic kingdom's version.
You could make those using the same steps.
Amazing 🤩 thanks for sharing 💀🪦🎃
Thanks for watching!
Looks awesome, but will a screw and screwdriver fit in there?
It should.
Another 3D printer project thats beyond my reach.
What makes it beyond your reach?
I don't understand how you screw the scrolls to the fence when the area for the screwdriver is blocked by part of the scroll.
It's not as blocked as it looks.
They make a bendy bit for the screwdriver.
What software is this please?
Fusion 360
Will you be selling or sharing this model?
Yep! vanoaksprops.etsy.com/listing/1753055815/3d-model-haunted-mansion-inspired
Sadly I understand none of this…
With time and patience you can learn. I believe in you.
