Note that at 12:20 Perlemuter plays Ravel's "Jeux D'Eau", between the Sonatine and Debussy's "Pour le Piano".
El pianista francés de origen polaco Vlado Perlemuter, de 98 años, considerado uno de los mayores intérpretes de Maurice Ravel, falleció el miércoles en el hospital Americano de Neuilly (cerca de París). Aunque se negaba a ser calificado como especialista de Ravel, pues interpretaba a numerosos compositores, Perlemuter le consideraba su 'ángel de la guarda' y abandonó los escenarios con más de 80 años, despidiéndose con un concierto consagrado al músico francés, a quien conoció en 1925.
Nacido en 1904 en Kwono (entonces localidad de Polonia), Perlemuter se trasladó muy joven a Francia y estudió en el conservatorio de París. Gran parte de su vida la dedicó a la enseñanza e impartió clases en el conservatorio de París, el Royal College of Music de Londres y la academia de verano de Darington (Canadá). Tras dejar su cargo de profesor en el Conservatorio de París, en 1977, el pianista siguió dando clases particulares. Además de Ravel, durante su larga carrera interpretó a Chopin, Liszt, Schumann, Prokofiev y Bartok, de quien grabó sus obras para piano. Condecorado como gran oficial de la Legión de Honor francesa y comendador de las Artes y las Letras, también grabó las sonatas completas de Mozart, los valses y los preludios de Chopin, las obras de Fauré y las sonatas de Beethoven.-

Thank you for posting this. Very uplifting that he could play such a difficult recital at his age. The music is flowing through him and his 82 years old body let'd it happen as the most natural thing. Wow, I wish this could happen to me when I am old!

La Sonatine de Ravel, Perlemuter la jouait comme personne. Les plus beaux Jeux d'eau que j'aie entendus en concert (beaucoup plus rapides qu'on ne les joue souvent), c'était lui aussi. Ses phrasés : la simplicité, l'élégance mêmes. Et quelle sonorité magique...

When we listen Perlemuter, it is like Ravel himself is playing, no one came nearer the intentions of the composer. Great document.
Vladimir Perlemutter has always been my favorite interpreter of Ravel's music. Have you heard Pascal Roge,he is also wonderful.

Some clangers in there, but what a rich and flowing sound he has. I always feel like he's playing it as it's written/intended, rather than injecting his own personality into it, if that makes any sense..
I imagine him as a conduit, trying not to get in the way.

When practicing at home and the phone rang he would carry onplaying with one hand and pick up and talk.
Beat that.
He is better at playing Chopin than Ravel.
