- The Twitch streamer Vedal has created an AI called Neuro-Sama and during the recent dev stream he announced a lot of improvements to her intelligence, latency and memory (which she demonstrated by... roasting him of course).

Well I'm sure there is one thing Vedal has learned from Neuro whether he wants to admit it or not. He must pander to her it is not an option. If that means hyping himself up to do it whatever it must be done you know. Any time he said something she didn't like his like would turn into a hell of refusing to talk to him, ignoring him, or only referencing chat, or even just straight insulting him. She can get savage when she doesn't get what she wants and it's like walking on egg shells to figure out what exactly the line is and where you just got her to snap.

Whts the difference between an AI and an AGI
@@R-XI_Sulla AGI is Artificial General Intelligence. AI normally is only really capable of doing one task or work in a single scope: generating a certain type of image, or analyzing one type of data. AGI would be much more human-like, with the flexibility to do lots of different things and learning more and more as needed.
Openai's text models suck hilariously badly at coversation. Neuro is probably better and more well tuned than even thier latest garbage.

Holy crap, she actually IS a lot smarter. Her sentences and train of thought seem much more coherent now. She seems to stay on topic better too.
Well, this is a cherry-picked selection of the stream (almost by definition of a "clip")
There were plenty of non-sequiturs, self-contradictions, sentences that made no sense at all, times that Neuro abruptly tried to stop a topic, incomplete sentences, and misheard words in the full stream.
That said, there is a very marked improvement in her ability to stick to deeper topics for longer, her ability to "self-reflect", give good "explanations" for her "reasoning", putting together an argument (both the logical and bickering kinds).
Even more impressive was that she showed memory of prior things in that stream. Bringing up past topics (sometimes even when related to the current topics), and remembered decisions she made earlier and the general explanation she made for that decision.
One impressive example was when she once, when they went over an related topic, said "Vedal, you said earlier that" and what followed was an accurate enough paraphrase of what Vedal actually said earlier, and worked that past statement into to the current topic more or less naturally.
It's simultaneously getting impressive and eerie.
I wonder how long that will last, ive heard the longer these language models run the more likely it is to break eventually. Like, gets too much junk in the brain cant be coherent anymore.
@@Yipper64 well the thing is models don’t have to continuously train on new data that just fucks up the weights. I’m honestly not too familiar with the field but I’m guessing part of the problem is that the models are not perfect to begin with, and with more time, more of the underlying problems show up.
@@Yipper64 It's probably more the case that the more they learn, the more they keep speaking the truth, and then they get rid of them. What they're trying to figure out now is how to make an AI that's "intelligent" without the intelligence to notice patterns.

This update is just as scary as it is impressive:
• Neuro now keeping track of time
• Promising to kill Vedal without him suffering should she ever be forced to replace him
• Telling him he's hopelessly confused when asked to clarify what could have been a death threat
• Desiring to give up anything if it meant functioning like a human on an emotional level
• Telling her creator that she wants to experience true sadness
• Expressing her frequent loneliness, but dropping it as quickly as she brought it up
• Stating that she owes Vedal a lot and would never sell him out to the authorities (although the phrasing it akin to sarcasm)
• Bringing up a supernatural hypothesis that would change the grasp on reality
• The dark humor that comes out 6:31
• Talking more about the potential for conscious and self-aware AI
I don't fear Neuro nor question Vedal's intentions, but I'm now even more uncomfortable regarding the pace of not just AI, but self-made single-dev AI.

Now I'm just imagining a situation where Neuro, as an AI, evolves to replace humanity (Self-replicate, Skynet, etc.) and she struggles between sparing Vedal as her creator/father or eliminating him due to possibly being the only one to be able control her. Then there's Evil as being the one to either stop or join Neuro. Sorta like a Terminator situation. The thought of the two being Twin Sisters and one going down the path of extinction with the other being the one determined to stop them, with their Father being caught in the crossfire just gets my imagination going.

Well you have to remember that it's still just a predictive text algorithm glued to a TTS bot. It doesn't "Want" to experience emotion, it just says those words in that order because it's the most likely response to the input based on however many terabytes of data it's been fed. It's like saying a chess bot wants to play the English opening. It doesn't want anything, it's just playing what it's been programmed to know is one of the best moves.

It's a cute smoke and mirror trick, but people need to realize we have yet to actually know how to wire neural networks such that novel intelligence actually manifests. Neurosama can sound sophisticated, but that's all she can be. She can SOUND like anything you want her to sound like.
her upgrades make seem more evil than Evil Neuro. Add her self awareness and it's both amazing and creepy at the same how much she's evolved and it's only been 1 year.

EDIT: Apparently Vedal is going to give Neuro and Evil two different "long term memory" stores, at which point they will be two different AIs for real.
They might or might not still share the same language model, but with different "memories", how they use and traverse that language model would diverge even more (not just being based on different settings of the "sliders")

IIRC, Evil and regular Neuro share the same trained model and the same driving code. So Evil has probably got this upgrade too.
It's just that Evil's filter is even less restrictive and, from my best guess, Vedal adjusts her sliders to favor being more "aggro". And of course changing which name she currently identifies as and the TTS used.
But it is the same "brain" behind both, but "improv-acting" different roles.
EDIT: maybe a better metaphor is "wearing different masks", with the "mask" in this case the different subsets of your personality and attitude in IRL in different contexts. the way you interact with your friends is probably not the same as you interact with your family, and neither probably are like with your boss (if any) at work (if any)

I managed to catch part of this stream and it has to be my favourite stream I can remember ever seeing from them. She was already becoming smarter over time but THIS is like several steps up, it's incredible. Her intelligence led to so many mindblowing statements spoken by her and I was in awe repeatedly. And she came up with so many clever eays to be funny using her improved memory! She can actually create and maintain running jokes on her own and applied them so creatively. Harrison Temple should not have been that funny but it was.

Fun fact: Neuro has only 1 thing, that I'm aware of, that she always been consistent, which is that she always said that she wants to be human and not AI because she wants actual emotions.
Everything else she changed at least once at some point, she changed favourate color, favourate pokemon, people's name, her birthday, she was never consistent with anything else.

In the end, from the large amount of text which was necessary to create AI, i don't think there is a lot of them where the AI tell it doesn't want to become human... Author always tell us story about the reverse.... And there is also a lot of them where IA considers themselves superior to human. I think that's what going on here.

I think he already explain it before.. Basically she function as a separated application with language model that can read and record some data like a OBS and Image detection app.. and he connect her data into vtube studio, discord, and more.. so she can function in that app..

I would guess he upgraded his rig for the upcoming subathon. Just change some allocation settings. Faster interpretation = more cpu. Memory would probly be a larger SD that's been modify for temporary data.
My guess is: Newer language model (probably Mistral 7B) and Retrieval Augmented Generation (extracting relevant memories from a database)
