Not necessarily arguing, but there's a reason you always see Middy doing TH-cam and not attending tournaments. Those setups are almost never useful or consistent

Classic mewtwo downplay. At the same time though mewtwo does have to play differently depending on who the opponent is so I can’t say I disagree with the take either.

As a Shulk main, I can confirm that cheese rarely ever works. The only 2 matchups that are relevant are Snake and Kazuya. Snake because grenades and Kazuya because if I shield art he loops me for like 60 with the electric uppercut thingie
MUs certainly matter with Steve a lot of the cast just can't do much against

With Isabelle the problem I’ve come across is that her combo game revolves around her projectiles
and all of her moves are projectiles. So if you are fighting someone like Fox, Game and Watch, Wolf or anyone that has a reflection that you can just hold down.
It takes away about half of her game plan and true combos.. 😮💨🥲 it’s rough at times…

I believe kameme has a pretty good track record against min min.
Sora can cancel her arm usage with counter unless it's ram ram and he can edge guard her well. Definitely not an easy matchup but it's doable

How does matchups matter more for kazuya than the shotos?
The Shotos can actually play neutral to an extent with better movement and projectile/shield pressure. Kaz lives and dies by getting true 0-deaths, and has a much more difficult time approaching and has only a disadvantage and advantage state.
Kazuya is a brawler with no speed, and for all his intangability. Can still get clipped a LOT by things like swords.
Ridley is a very honest character in my opinion. The few cheesy thing he has are either hard to hit or very easy to avoid in the first place
Side B never kills at 90, unless maybe you hit it from the opposite side of the stage. Wish it did tho

I feel the players matter as much as, if not more than, the characters. I know tier lists are sort of understood to be "all things being equal, top lvl vs top lvl". But that's never really the case, there's always mitigating circumstances; from skill gap to how well rested, fed, and prepared you are when you show up to play.
