The First Native American Flute I Ever Made

  • Technically the first traditional flute I ever made was one my grandfather showed me how to make from a tree sapling. This flute is one that I consider to be the first flute I ever made that most people would recognize as being a traditional flute. It was made from wood dredged from the swamp I grew up in. The tools I used to make this flute were a pocket knife, a rock and some sand paper. My mom held on to this flute until she passed away a couple of years ago. Now it is back home with me and someday will be the reminder of the legacy I carry on and that my grandchildren will hopefully carry on into the future.
Thanks for watching. I hope you'll continue to watch more and check out some of the previous videos we have made on making and playing the Native American Flute.

I appreciate your videos on flute construction and how you constantly emphasize there is no right or wrong way. It's cool to see some of your history in flute making and life, and how your methods have changed over time.

Thank you for sharing! The flute sounds beautiful. The silhouette on the stand is called End of the Trail.

Wonderful flute. If I remember correctly, the silhouette of the brave and horse on the flute stand is known as "Trails End".

The very first flute I made is where I go to find my ground. A voice of “reason” if you will.

Is it one piece or two? It seems to look like a single piece, but that must have been a lot of work to drill out.

2 😉 Was a lot of work for using just a pocket knife however. 🙂
