What a wonderful pianist. I've just been to one of Paul Lewis's recitals - at Helmsley Arts Theatre, North Yorkshire. Inspirational interpretations of Sonatas 7, 14 and 17. I'm still remembering the wonderful melodies 3 days later.
The composition P. Lewis performs is dynamic and magical in character. There is an extraordinary level of clarity and expression. The melody is rich in colour, rhythmic balance with an enchanting romantic air.
Paul Lewis has become a real Schubert expert. His dynamic is wonderful, his tone brilliant, colorful and Schubert couldn´t have wished for a better presentation!
It seems incredible now that great artists like Paul Lewis and Dame Mitsuko Uchida are giving Franz Schubert's extraordinarily original piano works the attention they richly deserve that for a century or so after his death, they were largely nelected and regarded by many as inferior to those of his contemporaries.
Lewis brings clarity to everything he plays. He is already amongst the greats.
