- "Give me more, Lord, of Thy nature" was a poignant and soul-stirring hymn performed during the Pentecost divine service, conducted by Chief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider on the 28th of May 2023
A heartfelt prayer that beautifully articulates the yearning for a deeper spiritual connection and personal transformation. It emphasizes the need for God's strength, likening it to holy oil that fuels a burning lamp. The hymn emphasizes that human talents and gifts are incomplete without the divine light and guidance of the Lord.
The lyrics convey a plea for the Holy Spirit to be a constant source of instruction and wisdom. It seeks meekness and kindness to replace any rough or hardened aspects of one's character, aspiring to reflect the image of the Master, Jesus Christ.
The hymn also acknowledges the need for cleansing from sin and the continual presence of the Holy Spirit within the soul. It requests full control by the Spirit, symbolizing a surrender of personal will to God's guidance. The hymn expresses faith in God's promises and awaits His salvation, recognizing the role of divine blessings conveyed through His teachings.
Lyrics:
Give me more, Lord, of Thy nature; let Thy strength with me abide; so my lamp may burn more brightly, holy oil for me provide. For what gifts and talents, if no light from Thee I've got? What would name and form avail me had I the anointing not!
Holy Spirit, Thou dost teach me, fill me with Thy gift I pray; be my constant, calm adviser, teach me graciously Thy way. Meek and kind make Thou my nature that yet oft is rough and hard, that I may my Master's image always as the best regard.
Cleanse me from all sin, dear Saviour, dwell Thou ever in my soul; fully. Lord, direct my nature, let Thy Spirit me control. Thou dost give what Thou hast promised; thy salvation I await, and Thy blessing thro Thy teaching, by Thy promise, is my fate.
