I have a question about degree programs. I am currently attending University of Houston Downtown which has a Bachelors of applied arts and science (BASS) in Safety Management it is not a GSP program but it is in person. I am currently considering attending Eastern Kentucky University and taking the online Bachelors of Science (BS) in Occupational Safety with a minor in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology but it is online. People have told me that the BS is much more respected in the EHS industry just wanted to get your opinion

To be quite honest, I think you are heading in the right direction. I’m not familiar with the BASS program but I would look them up within the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (or contact them). I believe any Bachelors Degree with the safety field will net you the GSP. If you are nearly done with it, I would say stick with it.
As far as your Eastern Kentucky University idea, you are correct. Many do feel that a BS is much more respected in the EHS industry. Including myself. You will have a four year degree in the H&S field and once you are done with that (and get the relevant amount of experience) you can sit for your Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certificate.
I made a video that discussed this as well. Maybe that will help you out and provide further information for you as far as degrees and certificates. If not, I hope my response was able to support you as much as you had hoped it to!
With all that said though, good luck with whatever you chose. If you need further help or support, don’t hesitate to reach out and I’ll help any way that I can! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
