I haven't been to Helsinki for some years (once in 2019 but only to get on to a train to Kolari so I didn't really see the city), but I remeber that the lines 2 and 3 were combined back then, but as 2A/3A and 2B/3B. And there was a 6 and 6T, too. Funny, that it's nowadays combined with the 7, too. When I was in Helsinki the first time in 2013 I just casually took the tram as kind of "sightseeing" lines. Just got on one, got out when I found a nice place and then took the next one to go further, etc... Sounds unusual but showed me some nice hidden places of the city far away from the tourist spots. But the most beautiful part of Helsinki is Suomenlinna anyways ;-)
When the autumn traffic started in 2013, line 3T/3B changed to lines 2 and 3. There have been no lines 2A, 2B and 3A at least since then, sometimes in history 2A has operated. This video was shot in 2018 and there have been more changes since then. Currently, lines 2/3, 6/8 and 7/9 are connected. Line 6T no longer exists. In Helsinki, every summer there are major street works that affect tram traffic, but for the next two years, the "biggest street work of all time" is under way, renovating Mannerheimintie. A new line 13 is also under construction in Pasila, so from April 10, 2023, only four of the ten lines will run their normal route 🤨
@@Jontsa73 yes, could have also been like this. It was 3B and 3T, I confused the 2 with 7A and 7B. I have a Helsinki local traffic map somewhere here from 2012 or 2013. Back then you even had an old tram from Germany or Austria :D Everything in there was written in german and only some signs were also in finnish and swedish. Unfortunately you can't upload pictures here on youtube, I've made some back in this time. I work as a bus driver myself in Germany, but we don't have trams here anymore in my hometown. The last line shut down in 1974 - and now they want to build a new one again, starting in about 2030 :D But I see that a lot of things have changed in Helsinki. Definately worth a look again. Maybe I'll come there again in 2024 or 2025, if I got some money left. Finland has become so expensive that I can't really afford it anymore, unfortunately, so that I nowadays usually go to Estonia and Latvia for holidays. Well, and Russia, but... that's kinda difficult now.
Originally there were 3B and 3T that went in the same figure 8 line in opposite directions. However, sometime in the early 2000s they changed the routes so that the line stopped twice on the railway station (at the middle of the 8). People could not have known where it goes so they changed it so that one was 3T and the other 3B and the trams changed their designation twice on the round. This still caused confusion and I often took the wrong tram so in 2013 they changed 3T into 2 and 3B into 3. The letters T and B came from the Swedish names Tölö and Berghäll where they went from the city center. In 2017 they messed the trams lines completely and since then there has been constant stream of various special routes because of roadwork so nobody knows where they go.
What a cool tram system! Seems like it can get you anywhere in the city.
Nice city and trams.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch, sehr schön!

Helsinki piękne miasto, super komunikacja. Chciałbym tam mieszkać. 👍
Thanks Wojtek! I recognize strong references to Metallica in your profile picture 🤘😎

Pysäkki kohdassa 0:30 on Jalavatie eikä Kuusitie
Pahoittelen virhettä
