Stefan, considering how he became a runner, his story is crazier still. In a nutshell: he entered the Knysna marathon on a whim (sort of in reply to a dare by a friend) and discovered that running came easy. I know it's a totally different ball game, but would like to see him at Comrades or the Washie one day
x3i4n probably not horrible for ultras because your cardiovascular isn’t as exhausted as your muscles, but yes horrible for marathons and anything under😂😂
I can't even imagining running 10k let alone 100 Miles Is beyond my understanding how anyone can do this Ultra marathons runners fascinate me there is just mind blowing
Let me hear thoughts/suggestions: how long my knee's vacation can be, after 883.5 miles in 18 months (before that, never ran) without serious conditioning loss? My knees are as worn as an old tractor's axles.
There's lots of candidates for this title, personally I would put both Barkley and UTMB before this one even though the fact that it was the first real Ultra does weigh in its favor. If you allow triathlon then Norseman here in Norway is pretty far up there as well.
This is so weird my favourite sports are cycling and running and Mark Cavendish (professional cyclist) had a ankle injury and glandular fever and this year I broke my ankle and had glandular fever and now you who's pretty much a professional runner has glandular fever and an ankle injury!
As a South African who loves sport, I'm sad that I've never heard about this guy... Amazing performance

@@janswart2705 That's absurd! Yeah, don't think he'll win it easily and also, I think road running is way too boring for him lol
Same here
This is my dream race! I love watching guys like Ryan have such success here!
Absolutely incredible. What an inspiration! Well done Ryan...wow
Properly done! Ryan is a legend of the sport
Glad to see big brands endorse Ultra running. Only a matter of time before it's mainstream and an Olympic event.
Wow incredible race & extremely inspirational, great video
South African representing! Respect brother!
Man, Ryan is a legend 🇿🇦
what a race I never knew there was a race like this, now I'm looking forward to doing it.
Yeah. 🏃💨
Sounds great! Me too. Expect you to be knocking out 50+km-weeks for some years
Good luck getting in...
@@leomoe433 Gonna have to do A LOT more than 50 + KM-weeks if you want to run 100 milers
We've met and filmed some amazing runners in our time ... this was an exceptional production about an exceptional runner - nice work :)
Thank you!
Just a great movie. Loved it.
Wow dude congrats. Maybe catch you on the mountain one day. All the best for future victories!

this is inspiring! congrats to him
That was really cool. Thanks for sharing!
What it takes to win that race is to never drink any redbull for this kind of sport. LOL
I ran some of my best races on Red Bull.
x3i4n probably not horrible for ultras because your cardiovascular isn’t as exhausted as your muscles, but yes horrible for marathons and anything under😂😂
Red Bull has plenty of simple sugar and caffeine, exactly what you need during these races..
This actually made me cry despite I hate running...
Great work!

Ultra marathons runners fascinate me there is just mind blowing
Discipline, perseverance, and a ton of willpower we say! 💪
kira sussane it’s not as intimidating as you might think. Consider trying a long run. It will make you feel pretty confident.
Sports inspired every one
I'm in my 10th week of training for tht kind of marathon
beautiful footage, thanks redbull
Absolutely RIDICULOUS time for western states land sakes
How was I not Subscribed to Red Bull until now? I’m disappointed in myself, don’t worry tho I buy your drinks daily tho ❤

Does anybody knows the music behind?
The Barkley Marathons is by far the gnarliest race in the world
when is the moment for me to show my talents ?
how is this dude standing after 100 iles of running...fak man! incredible
I almost ran 9 miles last year, maybe this is what's next for me...
lekker boyki!
This is an advertisement, not a documentary.
What about UTMB and Hardrock?
Jason Michelson Barkley bro
Cute title.....definitely not the "Gnarliest".....Barkely Marathons for sure!!!!
now how much longer until there's gonna be a 500 or 1000 mile race......
if there isn't one already
Multiple people have run the entire Appalachian trail which is over 2000 miles.
BUSTABALLZ shut up fat dog
@@ACAB1312- We are running a 20 day race from 2 December 2019 to 1 January 2020 at Wychwood, Germiston (South Africa). 150 entries max

so cool :)
Nice
I wonder what Ryan was listening to on his headphones for those 100 miles?
RedBull would use words like "gnarliest"
How is this not an Olympic sport?
Have to disagree, the Barkley Marathons is by far and away the gnarliest race in the world.
I was thinking Hardrock, but yes Barkley for sure! Forgot about that one.....
Maybe most iconic race? No wait, that's UTMB.
Who says
Agreed! UTMB race all the way
There's lots of candidates for this title, personally I would put both Barkley and UTMB before this one even though the fact that it was the first real Ultra does weigh in its favor.

100 miles In how many hours?
Oh no!! Return of the mullet. Don't do it people.
Cool
Hungry Tom Brady
🤘🏻
its the f**king juice brand
wow
What type of attitude training mask is that when he is on the bike?
Ah man...for the last few minutes all I could think about was how bad he must smell and cringing every time someone touched him lol
Who needs joints?
T Dog is getting old. Keep well Ryan.
sub in spanish plsss
There are so many tougher races...Hardrock and Barkley for starters.
k
Am I the only one who can't understand what he is saying?
Nope. But then I did live within walking distance of his house in Cape Town for seven years.
You and all the Americans living in your small boxes.
Man's running with a diaper. That's pure dedication.
I hate running
u have to mature to reach ur goal
