What an awesome job! I was looking around for ideas on how to construct Kaneki's Kagunie and I have to say I am extremely impressed with yours. About to head to the various stores to get this underway. Thank you so much for the guide!
me and my uncle made it at his shop, like 3 hrs before I had to leave for the convention . I'm sorry, I didn't have time to tape it, but that's why I showed you what it looked like so you at least understand how I have it held up in the back!
I bought about 2 or 3 packages of that stretch "shock cord" stuff in the sewing section at Wal-Mart years ago. I wrapped it very tightly around my crafting table to use as giant rubber bands too hold down my unrolled materials. Pull it kinda taught....but not too much, then sew it together. You can keep the extra to make neat mask ideas. All my masks are now behind the head, not behind the ears.
I'm thinking about going for a kaneki cosplay but I had no clue how to make his kagune. After seeing this I might wait a while to do his kagune and ork on my todoroki project in the mean time
Thank you sooo much for making this video! I made a kagune for Kankei based off of yours and it turned out amazing! I did make a different back piece though, but it still looks so amazing thank you!
My band class will be performing for like a high school comic con and I want to go as kaneki and I'm still debating whether I should make the Kagune because I don't want to bleed my mom dry (financially of course) and we'll be performing plus I'm not sure we're to put the Kagune plus a have enough to deal with since I almost always impale the trumpets with my trombone.
The last few materials I got confused I couldn't tell what they were you didn't list last few things where there belt buckles & black strap what was that material and was that stray spelled oreat stuff could not tell!!!
Is that paper or foam the piece that looks like a horn???? or i guess scales where do you get your equipment and materials At I need to know so I can do it myself!!
Hello. i am a novice cosplayer i wanted to make Ken Kaneki's kagune and i wanted to know what kind of materials you used and what material tentacle plates were made of
Hi Brooke, love ur tutorial it's great! But I didn't quite understand what u used as primer bevor spray painting the kagune, could u please let me know? :)
If you can...can you tell me where you got your costume from because I'm doing a cosplay of Kaneki for comic con! So pleaseee! I don't know if I can trust some websites
You mean to make it pointy ? I just shaped it with either the foam or made a cone out of thick paper and placed it at the top! Doesn't matter what it looks like underneath because I added papers of the foam scales on top, then painted it last
Can give info about the size of the pvc pipe and pipe pipe insulation size you did not give a that info out if you can give that out for people who like me don't know how thick or I guess how thin the pvc pipe & where to get the insulation pipe if you can do that would be 👍!!!!
This was years ago haha I literally went to the store and bought the foam and pipes together to make sure they'd fit. I didn't take measurements, A lot of this was learning how I went. My suggestion would be to just go and make sure you pick one not too heavy and not too light , so that it's easier to carry but can support itself and the foam you cake on. I didn't cut til I got home if you see in the video, shaped and cut it as I went. Kanekis kagune is a different size in every scene so there's no right or wrong answer, make it how big you'd like :)
I've answered this question a few times, my uncle helped make it. I show the shape and how it's held together but Its made from aluminum. That's all I can tell you, sorry.
A dremel tool. They're perfect for detailing, but it took too long on the big pieces since it's a smaller tool. you could sand it down with something a little bigger. Harbor freight has really inexpensive Options to help with this!
my uncle is a welder, we made it out of aluminum, we basically shaped it to my back. i know not everyone has that accessible to them so i suggest a product called "sintra" which is a thick plastic that you can shape when it's heated. I just showed you the design of my harness so that it might help you
rayn clinger it's going to be probably a 20 hr project, you have to mold the pvc, then the expanding foam will have to sit and dry, then shaving and smoothing out the foam takes a few hours, the scales I would sit and watch a few movies while cutting them out, that'll take you some hours cause each arm has a poop ton! Then putting them on, painting ect... it can certainly be done within a month but it's not something you wanna cram the last min! Just work on it a few hours every other day you should be good
Brooke Surgener Ah, well thank you. I have some slight alterations I'm gonna make to the detail of the kagune to try and make it look more like the anime by using the same skeleton you made for the kagune but using vinyl fabric/foam to make it have that skin like look with the scales coming underneath like how in the anime the kagune looking smooth with the scales looking imbedded underneath
Brooke Surgener hopefully so. I'm not planning on entering it in a contest or anything since I'm new to actually making cosplay (and because pretty much everything but the kagune were bought online or I already had) so I'm hoping it turns out well and looks as cool as yours did. Seriously, awesome job
I don't remember measuring anything, just eye balled how big I wanted it as I went through. That's up to you to figure out how high you want it to be. Just get some long thin pvc and cut 4 pieces evenly to how big you want them. As for foam I bought 2 giant rolls from Joann fabrics, then made a scale template to my desired size.
There's like multiple layers of foam if you watch the video.. 1.Skeleton layer are the pipes that frame the kagune. 2. 1st foam layer slides over top of the pipes, you can find these at home Depot and they look like a pool noodle (or you can use pool noodles which may be cheaper) 3. Insta foam, that foam in the can I use that expands - this let's you play with the shape of the kagune arms and you could use them for the tip of them as well. Then I shaved the foam down. 4. Scales- this is thin foam you can buy in a giant roll in the craft section at JoAnn Fabrics, or Michael's Arts n crafts, Walmart may even have some but its cheaper to buy 2 giant rolls than a bunch of individual sheets. Hope this helps!
What would be the difference if I decided to use red foam instead of white foam? I'm trying to recreate your version of kaneki's kagune and my mom has suggested using red foam instead of white foam.
I don't remember the exact length of mine, but use your own preference, get it long enough so you can shape it the way you want. You can always shorten it
majiwater if i were to do another character from Tokyo ghoul it would be her, if that happens ill post a how to video. i have some others id like to do first though!
Centra??? Not familiar with that MATERIAL??? Also can you ask your uncle to make more and then sell the aluminum vest with fasteners I would definitely buy

Wow really cool!Do Touka's kagune plz!!
Ikr I'd love to see that XD
Toukas kagune would be really hard tho
@@grung701 actually I think the build would be easier, it’s the painting that’s hard
wow best tutorial ive seen so far
this is really cool
OMFG TANA XD
Excuse me. But can you make a video on how to make the back part of the kagune. Thank You °~°
Sebastian Michaelis Same I'm just gonna go to Home Depot and see if I find anything like that but i'd be awesome if there was a tutorial lmao >.

Kat Hawol How did u make the back. A little help please 😅
i gonna make those kagune for a convention in the summer
holy crap that's awesome!!!!!!!
how many meters it is necessary to make such?????????
5:15 Woah that looks like my cat in the background lol
Do you think at a point in time you could do a tutorial on Touka's kagune? I plan on cosplaying her but I have no idea where to start for her kagune!
Hers is kinda like a wing so maybe you could create a base out of something and then cover it with feathers and spray paint it red/ orange
I would if I had the time! Next big build I make I will for sure post, but it probably won't be Touka's unfortunately
Do u have a video or could u explain more on how u made the back peice like where did u get the aluminum and whats Sinatra
instead of the great stuff can you use tape because I live in UK and I don't know where to get it

T's really not that expensive to make.
Bro I wish I could make that and have the time and patience but I don't but good fucking job dude that's hella awesome
Wow! A good ideas!
watching in 2020 what did u use for the tip of the kagune and what sharp end did you cover with the white stuff it was confusing
What does one need to look up to find that harness you have?
Your kagune is realistic good good
Thanks!
Omg too good
this is soo helpful THANK YOU

Is it possible to paper mashay the pool noodles instead of using spray foam?
Um i have a little problem... I don't know how to get this back plate ... the whole thing... what should I do ?😕
Could you please make a video teaching how to do the back plate? It'll be really helpful
Hello. i am a novice cosplayer i wanted to make Ken Kaneki's kagune and i wanted to know what kind of materials you used and what material tentacle plates were made of
The big foamy rolls, where did you bought them? And how much did you paid for them?
One thing, where you bought the lenses ?
Sorry, I'm French and I did not understand everything in your video, so I do not know if you said it, but, or you had the "board" to fix the kagune ?
Suri but ayem törkiş
Hi Brooke, love ur tutorial it's great! But I didn't quite understand what u used as primer bevor spray painting the kagune, could u please let me know? :)
Could use just use a torch from like walmart on the pvc pipe?
I wouldn't torch it, heat guns are pretty inexpensive ($30?) Just because you'll have more control
There a video on how to make a harness for the tentecals I need to make one soon
alguein que me diga todos los materiales que se usaron?
So tell me all the materials that were used?
If you can...can you tell me where you got your costume from because I'm doing a cosplay of Kaneki for comic con! So pleaseee! I don't know if I can trust some websites
GraceLD Xx I made mine! fabric I got from Joanne fabrics. yayahans fabric line has really nice black stretchy latex like fabric. not cheap though
Brooke Surgener dammit...see I'm making my kangue and comic con is in 3 months so I don't have enough time I needa buy my costume
Kagune
Can I sit with this because im wearing this for class in halloween
Ehhh it's not heavy, but I wouldn't wear it for Halloween if you wanna be comfortable and sit down , you can but it's big and in the way lol

What's the harness made out off?
Love this chanle!
Can you use wire?
What is the best substitute for that white thing you put?
What white thing? The expanding foam?
can you tell me how much of everything you needed? like how many cans of paint, how much pipe installation etc etc. but for everything

what are the materials
