no initial downpayment you dont go buying. i am strict and tough when it comes to issues like this. event items are extremely expensive and you go blow money away for someone happiness. if you won't book me because of my strictness that is okay. i have peace with that. i dont even break down prices for any of my potential clients. you ask me to break down i said no i just charge you and go do the work you dont like that approach feel free to walk away. dont let anyone to take advantage of you. my tips, dont share a lot of information just share minimum. these are all strategies i use. dont waste your time sharing pictures. block them if they are being deffensive and combative. work with peace, very important and avoid stress. those who respect and value your work will book you without hassle. dont waste your time with diy clients trying to steal ideas without even saying thank you for sharing free information

Another big mistake that I have learned from is: Sharing My Creative Ideas Before Receiving A Deposit. I personally feel that event designers shouldn’t share THEIR vision for the event until they have received a deposit. I have seen where people take my ideas and (poorly) decorate themselves or give it to a cheaper event designer to attempt. Not doing that anymore- payment first then you can get access to my creative library.

That is soooooo true. The excitement of the new theme and the booking. Sometimes, I would decorate for the event no contract no down payment and then end up slighted by the client!!!!

I have only been decorating officially for 6 months and have had three clients do-this to me. The last one cancelled less than 48hrs before the event. I have cried and learned the hard way. Never again will i be used for a fool in the decorating biz.

Thanks for all of your advice! I too have done this, and now I am afraid of starting a business. I have done some balloon projects for family just to see how I could do. Someone posted on social media a picture of one of my designs. Someone they knew reached out to them to find out who had done this. They got in contact with me about an upcoming event. And yes excited ,l thought it was a done deal! Well you can guess what happened, no event for me. I too spent money a lot! My fault though. I still ,a year later have not went forward with my dream of being a professional balloonist. I need to get past the fear.

Someone wanted draping. I went out did measurements, walked through their day. And they did not book me. That's why I said nope. You will either book me or if I got to go measure it's a fee, you book Me I will credit this fee to your invoice. This definitely ween out the serious from the none serious for sure. Thanks for this

Yes, I just made the same mistake this summer. I thought I was getting a graduation party. Bought several 2024 items. And the client decided to do it themselves. Now I am stuck with all these 2024 graduation decoration.😂
