I'm quite proud of this video and I enjoyed making it more than I expected. Going through all this again reminded me that not all of the "Immortal Machine" production work was stressful and difficult. I legitimately really enjoyed the early stuff, fleshing out and designing the Mayor. Hope you guys like the video! ^_^ Next week we'll be covering the Matriarch and considering that the character has existed since the beginning of the series; she's gone through by far the most changes and revisions throughout her life-span! :D Should be fun.
The world you created is so incredibly detailed and creepy yet beautiful. I genuinely enjoy all of your videos, especially the ones like these where you explain the characters and stuff. Keep up the amazing work dude ❤️
I absolutely love how you can see the human in the Mayor. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. His hands have four fingers and a thumb, just like my own. His actions, both good and atrocious, are those of a person. And most of all, his emotions- the desperation, the deep loneliness, and that anger at a world he thought he saved leaving him to rot- scare me in how much I relate to them. No wonder the exceptional woman fell in love.
I'm pretty sure the Monarch now has a face because in his making of Eternal machine he said that monarchs change appearance to reflect their surroundings and sends them on our surroundings are a bunch of machines in humans they probably look like a machine human
I noticed how his face oddly resembles the matriarch's did before she WAS the matriarch, while her face looks more human than before. It seems to symbolize him sacrificing his humanity for her sake and giving up everything for her. He gives her life in exchange for the life of humanity
@@gingerbean2406 I'm pretty sure it's printed into the notebook. I remember an old behind the scenes video had a link to a pdf version of the notebook, so his notes are probably digitalized and refined before he prints them into a notebook.
The reason I like that quote is that It symbolises the fact that even though the mayor commits atrocities and tells lies, it's better than the people living in fear and sadness
@@rexredcap589 yeh i love this one, he even hesitates to say it and seems to get quieter as he does, as if he's regretted asking it before the words have even left his mouth.
I think, even if you did not manage to portray everything about the Mayor you wanted to, you definitly managed to portray that there is more to him. The brittle mental castle he retreated into to not having to face the atrocities he committed. I actually want to see more of him, more of his implied arc.
I think him voicing All of the handymen, friendly shadow and mayor makes sense, since he created the handymen and friendly shadow obviously they would share his voice. I think he should get voice actors for other male characters that arent connected to the mayor, like the citizens, to further emphasize this
It’s an extremely rare thing when a person who creates a character doesn’t even know what their character would say, that’s how incredibly complicated this character is, it’s beautiful.
I loved that point about how the mayor hates the freaks because they make him realize his sacrifice and cruelty weren't necessary, I'd love to see that in an actual short.
One detail I loved the most about the mayor is how convincing his own viewpoint is. I despised the city and its life, but after watching Immortal machine and I understood that it was necessary.
How can such a thing be despised? Even before "Immortal Machine" you come to realize that everything is important, everything *Works* everything has been made fit with everything else, and that is beautiful solely for the reason that it cannot happen.
@@secretbaguette A dystopian society with no freedom, no true art, no independent thought, is beautiful? I couldn't disagree more. Life for the sake of life is torture, its cruelty. You cant even make a mistake, in The Friendly Stranger you find out that the whole family involved with The Freaks was to be put to death, except for the brothers I suppose. Its true, humanity could have and probably would have perished. But The Mayor's ultimate goal should have been to release humanity back into the world after things got better. His hatred of The Freaks proves his unwillingness to move forward. Whether it's lust for power, fear, or guilt, he has ultimately become no better than a dictator
@@skeetsmcgrew3282 That is where I must insist you are wrong. Life for the sake of life is just that, life. Life has never had a purpose, and so the sole purpose of life being to fascilitate new life is naught but an astute observation of the facts of thus universe. The mayor has done terrible things, and clings to his machines and perfect dystopia for fear of what may happen if he releases his people into this new world. You argue that he should let the humans in his care be free and able to roam the new world as they wish, but you neglect the fact that the 'freaks' and everything else out there is intrinsically dangerous. The mayor's reluctance to let his people go is not out of selfishness, but fear. Fear of what is not understood. Fear of this world that has left humaity behind. The mayor has protected these people, and he feels they would die if set free, and so he continues to do so, to keep them safe, for their own good, wether it really is or not. You argue he is a dictator, not so. He has little control over the happenings once he set these systems in place. He is the architect, for he created the immortal machine.
@@secretbaguette and yet we kill people and sacrifice our own on a regular basis because we so strongly believe that life is only valuable if it meets ceetain standards. So its you who is wrong. Life had a purpose once you decide it has a purpose, which we have
@@skeetsmcgrew3282 Some people decide purposes for their life, and fight in wars, all based off of the fact that some monkeys gained sentience and broke evolution. All you talk of are constructs of society, a contruct we have made for ourselves. I am not speaking in terms specific to humans, I am speaking in terms of any carbon life found anywhere, on this planet or any other.
I kind of like the Mayor. He seems like one of the only people who's not brainwashed (because he was the one who brainwashed them lmao) and seems to regret the things he does. He just seems like an extremely tired man who wants his machine to come to an end but can't if he wants to stay alive.
I also think that in the end, he is also brainwashed. He is so certain of his path. He knows what he is doing is wrong, but he believes that his choices are necessary and the only path possible.
@@andrewchilds8886 And then ofc the sad truth ends up being that humanity evolved and adapted to the apocalypse without him, and that the murders of the Uglies were never necessary in the end.
"The early days of auto Dale" Or "early days of the Machine" That's something you could make another short film off of Which could easily be majorly about the mayor
The mayor’s early days of being an inventor and when people first started getting sick, or perhaps Autodale being rebuilt with the creation of the Matriarch and the mayor becoming what he is.
"they are proof that his actions, his sins, were in fact, not necessary" this genuinely gave me chills, i can't imagine how painful it must feel to have all of your life's work be completely pointless in the end, even if in retrospect the mayor has saved the lives of so many humans
I mean, he also killed all of those humans, so a net zero if we go with utilitarianism. If we go with Deontology, he doesn’t even get to take credit for saving them, as he didn’t cause the deaths he helped them avoid.
@@jdcrosier2682 well, he also kept those humans from dying quickly or going extinct, he has kept alive the last remnants of the old world before the withering, that’s something. From now in autodales present, humans appear to be able to still breath the air, meaning they could survive outside autodale and rise to prominence yet again as long as they can still eat. Which could most likely be done as the goddess is most likely a sort of food or resource supplier that provides a sustainable flow of food in exchange for blood. Keeping humanity alive indefinitely, now humanity can expand outside the borders of autodale as long as they create agriculture once more.
@@Rick-lq3xo well the structure of autodale's society is designed to not change. the town has stayed like that for thousands of years, they have no want or need to change in any shape or form, including those which might actually help them, like growth. the few changes in autodale have mostly remained hidden in the penis castle, such as hive.
I love when he said he purposely made him seductive mixed in with everything else. I literally exhaled thinking "Thank goodness that was on purpose, I thought I was reading into him too much"
Seeing your work really drives me as a writer. Your entire Autodale series, including Merry Madness and Scary and Strange stick with me constantly. It's a world I adore, entirely because of the love you put into the story, the art and design, and the voice work. You are a man of myriad talents, and as an artist, I look up to and respect you so much. I cannot wait to see where you go from here. Take care of yourself, David ^^/
when you put youtube to show the more recent comments you find great comments like this but in "Normal" comments section it just appear some unfunny jokes or generic coments like "first" or "i clicked this video faster than light speed" i am starting to hate youtube even more than before because of this
Dead Sound: “And here’s a Stegosaurus.” Me: “That does not look like a simple sculpture! That looks like a fucking collectors edition model! How the fuck are you so good at this!?” 🤯 0_o. Until Dead Sound pointed it out, I thought the Mayor’s expanding lungs were actually his heart beating.
You've probably already realized this, but if you're looking for another story for the Mayor to star in, his discovery of and reaction to the freaks sounds like a good start.
Hey man, love your work . And I know I sound like a broken record because everyone else is saying this, but I wanted I wanted to tell you not to push yourself too much. Believe me the last thing the majority of your watchers want , is for you to breakdown physically and mentally for a piece of entertainment. Especially someone as skilled as you. It doesn’t matter to me personally if it takes years or decades for you to recharge your batteries. Your health and well-being is what matters the most.
Perhaps Autodale was necessary for humanity in its more... human form, while the life around simply adopted and weathered the storm (sickness). It must indeed a horror for the Mayor to see that life always finds a way to survive in various forms.
I think that's actually a very real fear, finding out that all your efforts to keep the world from changing weren't to save the world itself but just to keep your own species from going extinct. I don't see any pets or livestock in these shorts (though they might have the latter in factory conditions). It looks like he chose humans as the one species, aside from the matriarchs, to put all his preservation efforts into even if it meant sacrificing their humanity to do so. It's the kind of scenario you can see happening in the real world. The Earth heats or cools too much, or a new lifeform evolves that changes the atmosphere (as happened when photosynthesis first occured). These are conditions that will kill humanity and even most of the life that shares our ideal conditions. But other life will evolve to take our place as we did the ones before. If that happens, any humans left might be horrified when it finally sinks in that they're not saving life from a broken environment. Even with all their knowledge and technology to fight back against change, they're just obsolete. Though if your primary concern is the preservation of humans above other life-forms, you'll probably be okay with it. Maybe that's why he keeps the machine going even in the face of doubts.
Its actually a really interesting lesson in regards to humanity. We speak a lot about "hurting the planet" but like, frankly the planet dont give a fuck. Its lost 95% of all life more than once, its gone through periods of extreme cold and extreme heat many times. The Earth will be perfectly fine, we are the ones who are screwing ourselves over
The Mayor is a very interesting character. He comes across as a heroic, but reluctant king. He has saved the day and built a safe kingdom for the people. Now what? He seems like he's just had Aotodail in survival mode this whole time. The Mayor may have built the Imortal machine, but the exceptional girl saw what he had done and thought "Impressive, what else can we do with this?" To me this is where the Mayor character becomes irrelevant and Hive takes control. The Mayor can now spend his days in the basement with his giant girlfriend, while Hive dose the ugly business of human farming and possibly make planes to retake the outside world.
My favorite detail of the mayor is how his pupils contract and widen as he speaks, i don’t know why or what that means, but it’s just a part of the mayor I adore.
I can’t explain why I love the freak’s design, but I love them so much, and I may just be seeing things that aren’t there but the mayor’s stature reminds me of the freak’s so much, so the fact that he despises them so deeply makes it even better.
I've been wondering about why the freaks were seen as monsters for a while now and I always just assumed it was some generic reason like the humans not being able to relate to such monstrous looking creatures despite them not showing any aggression, thanks for finally clearing it up and showing that there was a real reason to it that I could've never guessed!
Damn... The part about the freaks undermining his reasoning and achievements actually makes him so much more understandable in his ways. This storytelling, animating, and modelling is just something else!
I feel like that mayor is going to abandon his creation from guilt. He has created his immortal machine, and it no longer needs him to continue. I feel like he will leave, to join the freaks and accept his atrocities
His "umbilical" implies he's confined their if he wishes to live. Though dead sound did say the cylinders are batteries, so mayby he could make it some distance into he wastes to die.
Even if that wasn’t the case, the only human we’ve seen survive in the wasteland was the girl from Friendly Shadow. Every other person is either dead, or turns out to be a freak. Humans may simply be unable to survive outside of the matriarch's influence without help. They are part of the old world, and the new world has no time for them.
@@jdcrosier2682 Humans are able to survive, but without the Titans (my name for them - what the matriarch is. we see more of them in DFTF) they will float into the sky. that's why the flora is mostly vine-like, beacuse it will float into the air. the longer something is away from a Titan is, the more it is affected by the floating. Freaks cannot be affected by this, but they are a product of the Withering, like the floating is.
Yea, I loved the short film it was amazing, chef’s kiss. Regarding the mayor, I loved his character he embodies what makes this town interesting. he is this twisted horrible machine which is so beautiful to look at it’s seductive. He definitely seems like a character that’s gonna come back to do something. It feels like we know so much and so little about him at the same time. I can’t wait to what’s next with him. For now though just go animate some dinosaurs which you’ll pull an M Night Shamalan twist like with “Merry Madness” that there’s a giant 100 foot all robotic super megazord dinosaur behind Autodale and it makes the Matriarch’s personality 10% bigger because magic.
I have to be honest here, I REALLY want to make a mayor costume, The mayor is just such a well-designed character! Edit: The small sound effects David makes durring this video are really funny and enjoyable :D
I freaking love how you expressed how he feels about the Freaks. I wonder how that could even be expressed in an animation, as he doesn’t want to think about them, let alone talk about them.
The mayor is such an interesting character. He seems totally aware of all his atrocities, and yet so locked away in his delusions that he gives me the same vibes as someone who is addicted to something and wants to stop, their mindset is like, “I want to stop, but it feels so good” except every second he’s waiting there who knows how many people are dying directly because of his actions.
I think not knowing if the mayor is being genuine or manipulative with the exceptional girl is one of the most intriguing things in the whole series. Also, I just want to say how amazing this whole series is and how much you inspire me to create. Thank you for continuing to share these creations.
Just casually a master sculptor, utterly unique writer, grand artist who can 3d model, texture, animate and voice professional level CGI and makes incredible sketchbooks just for brainstorming and reference. I don't get impressed easily, but holy cow, that's an impressive skillset to show off in just 20 minutes, let alone your entire catalogue of work.
It looks like Friendly Shadow answers directly to Hive. It's possible he's never met the mayor and that the mayor thinks no more of him than the Handymen.
@@BonaparteBardithion that’s very likely but like if hive is just gonna send a peice of itself out onto the streets wouldnt it make sense that the mayor has some say in the matter? Not trying to argue I just love thinking about these things
@@MoonRunesDaB0i That's true. It depends on how much involvement he has in Hive's later additions, if the process of selecting the exceptional has been effectively automated or not. Though since they're a hive-mind, I guess they've all pretty much met him.
"that his sacrifices weren't actually necessary..." TADUM 😨 I don't think he was wrong to do what he did. He tried to save humanity, the people he loved and who were dying around him. There's just one more step: how to intergrate Autodale in this new world.
That seems like it would be the best course of action. Autodale was necessary to save humanity, but now it isn't. He could work on finding ways for humans to leave alongside keeping the place going. Maybe choose specific people to go out and try to survive outside the city and send Handymen to monitor and assist rather than capture them. But he opted to push against the new world instead and sweep it under the rug. His wounded pride and guilt won out over reason. Deep down he's still ruled by his emotions, which is the most human reaction he could have had.
I’m not sure he can… the only human we’ve ever seen survive alone in the wasteland turned out to be just another freak. Perhaps the girl from Friendly Shadow might survive, but she was receiving help from a juvenile freak. The new world, while slowly thriving, appears to be entirely incompatible with human life as it exists in Autodale.
@@BonaparteBardithion I think he would like to do that, but to do so he would have to take apart his perfect machine city and rebuild it, risking the matriarchs lifeblood in the process. All of his work might be gone, including him.
I love how much detail and love you can see put into this series. He cares so much about his project and it's inspiring. In my creative writing class, when we were talking about Dystopias, I showed this to my teacher, and he LOVED it. My entire class watched all of it (up to the friendly shadow at that point), and talked about it for days. I would love to meet David and pick his brain about the seiries, his prosess, ideas, advice and more. I always look forward to every video he makes, and I can't wait for more. That being said, I hope he doesn't overdo him self again, and takes it slow, so that he can continue to enjoy this project as much as we do.
Hi David, I'm sure this will get lost in the crowd but I decided I have to mention this anyway. I have been a fan since 2018 - ish, and it cannot be overstated how much everything that you create has influenced me as an artist. My drawings, paintings, poetry, writing, the clothes I create and even my makeup. You are by far my favourite artist.
Honestly, I dunno if I’ve ever seen something like your style. This style is 2-D yet 3-D, the way it moves… I’m a 2-D artist, but when you talk about stuff like this, it makes me want to build settings, out of cardboard; seeing stuff like this, the passion you hold, it’s just… so much. It’s so much, it’s so good, it’s so bloody brilliant.
Whenever I hear that music, that first peice.. I always, *always* know there's yet another beautiful, thought out and fleshed out character, ready for their story to be told. That music will always serve as a reminder that no matter how "ugly" or "unsightly" a being can be to the average eye, Its something stunning, and an absolute sight to behold..
I personally LOVE the way this story has unfolded! We get glimpses. We don't get the full story in one episode. That's what makes it so good! It leaves us questioning and wanting to know more and thus coming back. The Major has SO much. Just getting a glimpse of what this character is leaves me wanting to know more about him. What happened and why. We only get part of the answers, but that can be great story telling mystery. I totally forgot about the Freaks during Immortal Machine and didn't even think about what the Major thought of them. If you look at the full story though, there is contexts to what the Major does feel though. He wants people to fear them the way he does.
The Mayor has just become one of my favorite autodale characters. Not only his physical appearance, but the way his guilt is becoming a burden on him, it just seems so real I guess. So relatable. We all have guilts we live with (certainly not to the extent the mayor has done, but just the fact that everyone can relate to living with some sort of guilt) I love the series. I love your work. You’re very talented and put so much effort into every video, even the creative process and making of videos, which are just as important as the autodale short movies themselves.
This reminds me a lot of the Dark Souls Story. Gwyn denied the darkness that came upon the world so that it could be reborn. He created the Age of Fire to drive away the dark, but humans became hollow. Souls were needed to keep the Age of Fire alive. Suffering of untold proportion became a reality. This story reflects that very well. I’m amazed at your story telling and character creation. Good work!
I looove this character so much. You're such an inspiration for me, I'm learning Graphic Design since 2020, and I wish one day to be as talented and able to create my own story, been able to create such a memorable character like The Mayor, I love the design! More the sculpture, that's awesome! If in some point you do it so people can buy it, could be an honor to get it.. you're such an amazing artist of all I wanna be
Wow, the sculpture of him is insane. Not even joking, the models of yours are so incredible and as you said, you get a different feel that actually aids the animation more. You are very talented.
You are an incredible artist, in every sense of the word. A painter, videographer, animator, writer, creator, designer, sculptor and more all in one. So incredibly inspiring to see your creative process, especially *with* all of its edits and revisions. Your sincere dedication to the creativity of this process, your specific vision and the steps needed to create what you see in your minds eye is wonderful to watch.
I don't know if this was intentional, but I absolutely adore the way the initial lines by the mayor can be interpreted in two ways... "You think you understand all the lies, all the needless atrocities. No! There is reason." Or how I heard it for the first few times watching: "You think. You understand all the lies, all the needless atrocities. Know there is reason." Which made sense to me because she was one of the few people in Autodale to think, to see through the lies, the question what it was all for. Thank-you for creating such amazing series, both Autodale and these creative process breakdowns!
Im so glad i actually noticed the lungs on my second veiwing of the short film, that was such a cool detail! Very nice as always, and that sculpture is downright my favorite.
I'm really glad you make these "Creative Process" videos about all your videos. First of all, it makes up for all the little details one might miss while watching the films, and explaining the few facts one might not have cought. Which, I feel, is just kinda grateful for yourself, for all the work you put into everything. With these making-ofs, you make sure none of your work is wasted, none of your thoughts missed. And that is wonderful, and that's one of the two things I like about this background-series as a creator. The second thing is the abundance of inspiration that comes from this series. Over the last years, I've been creating and building a fictional universe myself, until a friend approached me last year and was like "Hey look at these short films, they remind me of your characters and stories", and I immediately fell in love with Autodale and with what you're creating. Last episode, I was quite surprised that indeed, we share the exact same inspirations (Lovecraft, DelToro, Giger, just not the Barker body horror themes), which is interesting to me and makes me relate to your stories as well as the thought process behind them even more. In short - I am very glad I got recommended to this series and introduced to your inspiring, astounding work in general. I am looking forward to where the story arc of Autodale might lead, what more we might get to learn about its mayor, and what you, the creator of all this merry madness, will reveal to us about the origins and processes.
Get this man a contract, the savior of animation has arrived. Your work has inspired so many people throughout your courier, we all love what you do and amazing job on the series as a whole.

14:56 I don't think you give yourself enough credit. I was fascinated by the character of the Mayor and how mysterious and contradicting he is. While the Mayor does give exposition, it does not feel forced to me and even in that exposition he leaves us with asking other questions even while supplying some answers to this world of Autodale. But don't let me stop you if like to make another video in the future with the Mayor again, because I won't complain. You do great work and are an amazing story teller. Keep it up!
It’s really nice to understand just how human the mayor is, despite his twisted form and even mind, rather he reacted to a stimulus in what he thought was to be a nessacery way, truly an amazing piece of work!
Being a wannabe writer who stuck himself in a STEM major, I adore these videos. They bring me a lot of hope for what could be possible in the field of story telling despite it likely not pertaining to my future career. I know you do this full time (and it seems you make that time fuller than most), but the fact that you’re bringing into being this world used to convey a mature, wizened plot that had its roots in a childlike wonder and curiosity years ago give me hope that I can do the same one day. Keep at it, you’re doing a better service for people than you think man.
I love these behind the scenes videos so much, I think even more than the actual films. They really show the extraordinary amount of work that goes into these, every little detail, every complex thought that led to Autodale as it now stands. It really enriches the world and the story for me
The thing about the freaks at the end being a contradiction to the mayor thinking everything he did was necessary was absolutely amazing. The length and depth in this story just keep surprising me.
You seem overly critical of this film. It’s honestly great I loved looking at it and it’s honestly very intriguing. I loved the Mayor! I’m looking forward to seeing him again haha

I find it an interesting mix of Fallout and Bendy. Simply astonishing sir!
Omg, now I want to know about the first few generations of Autodale. I wonder how they saved the goddess and convinced a whole bunch of people to die to save her. or did they use the people who were already dead? but then wouldn't the goddess get sicker? or did they have another way to keep her alive? Can't wait to see how it continues! Keep up the amazing work!
You got to love a creator that goes all in when making something getting into detail and giving lore to their creation doing trial and error to make the perfect character
The mayor makes think a bit of Gollum in a way... rotten but undying, friendly but monstrous, obsessed but regretful, victim and torturer simultaneously. He feels old and wise, but he is left in the dust of a world he doesn’t understand anymore. That's what makes him such an interesting and mysterious character.

The mayor has protected these people, and he feels they would die if set free, and so he continues to do so, to keep them safe, for their own good, wether it really is or not. my perspective of the mayor is he's trying to help but over time its gotten worse and his guilt and regret is rising
The Mayor may have built the Imortal machine, but the exceptional girl saw what he had done and thought "Impressive, what else can we do with this?"
To me this is where the Mayor character becomes irrelevant and Hive takes control. The Mayor can now spend his days in the basement with his giant girlfriend, while Hive dose the ugly business of human farming and possibly make planes to retake the outside world.
Honestly, I can listen to you talk for hours.

I don't think he was wrong to do what he did.
@@BonaparteBardithion so true 🤔
@@BonaparteBardithion It's a step he's not ready to make.
I’m not sure he can… the only human we’ve ever seen survive alone in the wasteland turned out to be just another freak.
I love the "okay after all that have some ducks" outro, lol
The Mayor has just become one of my favorite autodale characters. Not only his physical appearance, but the way his guilt is becoming a burden on him, it just seems so real I guess. So relatable. We all have guilts we live with (certainly not to the extent the mayor has done, but just the fact that everyone can relate to living with some sort of guilt)

Good work!

No! There is reason."
Or how I heard it for the first few times watching:
"You think. You understand all the lies, all the needless atrocities. Know there is reason."
Which made sense to me because she was one of the few people in Autodale to think, to see through the lies, the question what it was all for.

I bet you’re a good writer, mark. Even if you go off to be a rocket scientist or something, you can always make your own stories on the side.
The length and depth in this story just keep surprising me.
i swear every time I hear Dave's voice i think in his voice is just so satisfying
You seem overly critical of this film. It’s honestly great I loved looking at it and it’s honestly very intriguing. I loved the Mayor! I’m looking forward to seeing him again haha
You are totally amazing!! artist, creator, actor, author, producer, director, and a caring person, which comes through in your stories, how your characters speak, their facial expressions, their voices.
i’m glad you’ve created these background expositions as they fill out the concept of the story and deepen the meaning. thanks so much 🌷🌱
the details on your sculptures make them feel like a lot more than sculptures
I've become most fascinated with Immortal machine and the story of Autodale. The sculptures really help sink home how much you put into these projects
I love seeing all of your creative process behind making these interesting characters. Every time I watch one of these videos I feel so inspired to try and make my own stuff... thank you for continuing to inspire me and many others
This is what top-tier sci-fi looks like
I actually get more of a “Cool Air” vibe than a “The Outsider” vibe from the mayor. Have you read that story before? If so, do you agree with me?
That’s the one where the guy uses air conditioning to keep his corpse functioning for 13 years, right?
Well, we don't know if the mayor owns an air conditioner...
From the way the Mayor's flesh is melting, I don't think he owns an AC unit.
Yeah, desperately trying to keep himself alive (or the town in the mayors case)
The Mayor and The Freaks are my absolute favorite characters from this series! I am so in love with their beautiful ugliness and stoicism. Immortal Machine was what introduced me to the series and the rest of your work. As a lover of dystopian and apocalyptic stories I simply love your Autodale series.
