- In 1999, Ruud-Jan Kokke designed the Pootjes! chair, a work born from a structural principle: sturdy where necessary and slender where possible, resulting in a sculpted chair. "Ruud-Jan belongs to a generation of designers whose work is becoming very interesting for the Rijksmuseum," says Ludo van Halem, Curator of 20th Century Art at the Rijksmuseum. "Through a number of iconic designs, he has taken a leading position."
"Designs arise from a series of principles and decisions," explains Kokke. Characteristic of Ruud-Jan's designs is that they are not entirely conceived beforehand but emerge from the making process.
KOKKE House, in collaboration with the Rijksmuseum and Bart van den Aardweg, developed a short film featuring both Rijksmuseum Curator Ludo van Halem and designer Ruud-Jan Kokke. In addition to the Pootjes! series, the renowned Fauteuil 10 (F_10) is also included in the collection, with both chairs featured in this short film.
Ludo van Halem further clarifies the significance of Kokke's work by stating: "I selected the chair because it shows an incredibly powerful image that transcends its function through its form."
