    I think your videos are incredibly underrated. Not only is the content really great and the fact that I'm so jealous of the work you are doing to restore the Whaler, but also how you've edited the music, the camera angles. and the lighting. Thank you. I'm binge watching.

      Thank You! appreciate the compliments, I'll be doing more videos with this Whaler in the near future. I'd never been on a 15' Whaler before, this boat is fun!

    I am looking for some information on how to remove and insert the brass through hull drain tubes. You talked about this in the finish/walkthrough Episode, but I'm not sure how to attack this on my BW 15. Thanks for a great set of videos!

      I give some tips in my transom (deconstruction) video. *Use a large screwdriver and hammer to collapse the ends of the tube, by tapping the tip of the screwdriver into the lip/O-ring. Once there’s no more lip and or the ends are collapsed you can use needle nose pliers and pull the tube out from the transom. Hope this helps.

    Looking good! If I were doing a 15 I would absolutely do a striper console also! If the mold works good you should totally build more and sell them!

    Question: Did you use 37, 40, 80, or 120-grit to sand the bottom of the boat, or a flip disc (and what grit, please)? Beautiful results. 💰

    • @spinfish1434
      @spinfish1434  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used an old 320 grit pad to loosen up the crud, the gelcoat is fairly thin so I didn't want to go too aggressive. Thanks for watching!

    Did you gel coat over epoxy filled holes? I want to to fill in old motor holes the re-gelcoat entire boat. I hear that epoxy can have gelcoat over it if prepped right. thanks

    • @spinfish1434
      @spinfish1434  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did small spot repairs around the outside of the hull with Epoxy and Gelcoat over top.. *You should be fine with the old motor holes. My repairs have held up perfectly.
      I didn’t Re-Gelcoat the entire hull just spot repairs where needed.

    Thanks for the videos. I’m going to be repairing blisters on a 1974 13, but I haven’t gotten comfortable yet with the process. Videos like these help. Is it your opinion that I can spray gelcoat over existing after making repairs and it wouldn’t be too thick? That seems to be what you did given you didn’t sand down to the fiberglass.

    • @spinfish1434
      @spinfish1434  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did spot repairs on deep scratches and gouges. Then a light respray of Gelcoat to blend it in. You could grind out and then fill the blisters with a good Marine filler and do the same. *It won’t be too thick imo..
      Just depends on how far you want to take it. We did achieve decent results and all the repairs have held up nicely. Thanks for watching happy to know you found the series helpful.

    Hello and what is the maximum hp you can put on a 13 footer ? I found one and wasn’t sure what it would be and also the maximum capacity of a 13 footer? Thanks

    • @spinfish1434
      @spinfish1434  ปีที่แล้ว

      The 13’ has a max hp of 40 which is plenty. A 30 would be the minimum hp imo. 4 adults is probably maximum you’d want onboard. The 13’ is significantly smaller. They’re great little boats for zipping around in, going to restaurants and dock bars etc because you can dock them anywhere. Hope this helps.

    Great job, question, how much Mekp do you used with spectrum gel coat.
    Did you add Spectrum Surface Seal and Mekp to the gelcoat?

    • @spinfish1434
      @spinfish1434  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We used different amounts of MEKP depending on the amount of resin (we made several batches). We used Patch Aid with the Gelcoat, it improves sanding and sealing.

    • @henryc8443

    • @spinfish1434
      @spinfish1434  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, we used it. Mostly spot repairs on the bottom, sprayed it on the transom. For my project we used 2 Quarts, (the console used 1 full quart). Yes we used wax in the final coat.

    How much would a job like this cost today

    • @spinfish1434
      @spinfish1434  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will vary a lot depending on who does it and what exactly is done. If you're referring to some gelcoat repairs only and some respray then my guess would be $1200..
      I started with a bare hull, built a mold for a custom console, found a sweet F70 motor, all new wiring, some hardware new trailer and electronics etc etc $$$$ Full rebuild you're just north of $10K with a used motor..

  • @paulmccormick9822
    @paulmccormick9822 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's hard to tell, but it doesn't look like you're sanding the gelcoat back far enough from the patch area for good adhesion of your 1708. Also each subsequent layer of patch should be a little bit larger then the last to insure contact. Check out, Boatworks Today, TH-cam channel for how it's done properly. Andy covers all things fiberglass and is a true master of his craft. Otherwise good work!

    • @spinfish1434
      @spinfish1434  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will hold, that top patch was just an “extra” bit.

    • @budgetbuyer1534
      @budgetbuyer1534 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a small non-structural repair... Ideally, Paul McCormick is correct about sanding the gelcoat further & applying your smaller patch first, but you aren't doing this work to repair someone else's boat... Your repair should hold just fine. 👍
