Speaking of B.B. King, when Stevie was killed, B.B. stated that he felt like he lost his son. Many of the great legends in blues were devastated after hearing what happened to Stevie. The great Buddy Guy even wrote and dedicated a song to Stevie. That's how much Stevie was loved.....
Even the greats, didn't mind that he outplayed them, they just appreciated his music. Although they did hear their style in him. I'm sure Jimmy Hendricks, would have loved him too:)
Stevie said he wasn’t very good in English class at school and that he couldn’t express himself well on paper. He said, “The only way I have to express myself is through my guitar.” Music flowed through him like an endless spring of sounds and emotion. I never saw him get stuck, lost, dead-end, run out of ideas, never, even though he was flying in the moment, head over heels furiously, with no idea what came next. It was almost like a religious experience. It made you believe that there must be a God, because no man could play like that without some kind of divine inspiration, and so you felt the presence of God. Thank you, Stevie.
I totally agree. When Stevie played live you can just tell he never played to a script. He closed his eyes to his surroundings and I honestly think he wasn't,t consciously aware of what he was playing it was coming from God knows where. Another great guitarist once finished a recording session and when it was played back to him it was jawdroppin playing but he was perplexed because it was not what he thought he had played. In a documentary about srv, someone said he didn't return blues record he borrowed. He would listen and teach himself how to play. Austin City limits concert is the best ever if srv. Plus a sound check of him just ripping it on TH-cam too.
Look up the Legends that Stevie played with and Ya'll will see where he go his Influences. I remember the night he die. That's why it's always flooding in Texas now....Tears for one of the Best Guitarists Ever! Loved your video Ya'll! Try, "Little Wing" or "Voodoo Child", "Prude and Joy".....Etc.

They *never* had a set list (except w/Jeff Beck, bcse one was demanded)-and none of what Stevie did onstage was developed offstage. ❤ he was engaged to Janna, and they were going to have kids-then the crash. It’s SO frustrating…he felt good for what-two years?
Actually, it was four years. Stevie got freed from his cocaine and alcohol addiction in late '86, and stayed clean and sober until his death in '90. He is my favorite music hero---without question!

I grew up as a kid to Stevie and his music and I was devastated when he one day was suddenly gone... When I watch all those performances from him nowadays tears comes out of my eyes every time...it’s that soul of him...it affects me so strong...I don’t know what is..he was special...very special...I’m glad to see you young people discover him the same way we did back then...he was truly amazing...every time...enjoy! I was born and raised in Austin TX, 1958. Turned 18yo in 1976. Was blessed to see SRV, The Fabulous Thunderbirds (Jimmy Vaughn) and many of the Blues Greats who were mainly then living in Chicago. Clifford Antone (Antone’s Club) first convinced Albert Collins (I believe) to come down to Texas and play. The rest followed. It was a great place to grow up and see the greatest blues guitarist of all time, which means SRV. His Strat, number one, was given to him by Mr. Ray Henning of Heart of Texas Music on South Lamar. It is a Frankenstrat of several vintage body parts traded in to Mr. Henning by Christopher Cross. I bought my first Strat from Mr. Henning himself. Sadly, Austin has grown huge and most all of the iconic shops and venues no longer exist. I’m super glad that so many young people, after all these years, are discovering SRV, the GOAT, hands down. Quote, “seeing SRV will make everyone want to be a beginner guitarist, and make every experienced guitarist want to quit.” Eric Clapton 😊
Life Without You written for his friend Charley Wirz who was a mentor and helped Stevie in how he designed his guitars and who died of a heart attack. Best vocal, great solo and beautiful message. You won't be disappointed.
This was filmed at a club in Toronto Ontario Canada way back I seen him twice in small venues in Toronto way back in the 80s once I seen him I was a fan! When he played he became one with his guitar!

The 2nd time was @ The Greek Theatre on 8/27/89. He was the best showman in the music business, hands down. He was down to earth and a genuine, kind human being. Imagine the music we missed............
If you gave me One Concert to have seen in my life, this would be it- far above all others. Even Floyd. This wasn't a concert, this was an experience of legendary greatness... & he let us come along for the ride. This song, which is his signature; his epic cover of Hendrix' Little Wing (using one of Hendrix' wah-wah pedals [which his brother got for him, to use when covering a song by Jimi...for authenticity's sake]), the song Lenny, which he wrote for his wife. If you watch his 'In Session' video, you see him play with his mentor: Albert King. You immediately see the major influence Mr. King had upon him when they trade-off, playing mostly 'Texas Flood' licks & bars. To see SRV play is to see Albert King play; and the more you watch & learn of SRV's material, the more you notice him working licks, riffs, hooks from 'Texas Flood' into just about every performance. It's a main foundational element. Not that he couldn't play anything he wanted, & a lot that others couldn't... in a way that nobody could.
I was there that fatal night in Alpine Valley, WI. The ticket was Robert Cray, Stevie Ray & Eric Clapton. Stevie's brother Jimmy (Fabulous Thunderbirds) sat in on his set and Buddy Guy joined Eric. For the encore, all 5 came out and jammed for another hour. The show ended after midnight. The last song Stevie ever played on stage was Sweet Home Chicago. If you really dig Stevie's dank blues, check out Tin Pan Alley he did with Johnny Copeland. Pure sauce!

I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley, Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The fog was so bad that we stopped and got a hotel room on the way home. The lineup was SRV, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray and Buddy Guy.
The older version of SRV. He had gotten clean.. I Believe 3 years clean when he passed.. Legend has it this show he had been passed out a couple of hours before the show started. Ripped 2 fat lines of Coke drank a 5ft. Then proceeded to put on one of the best shows of all time
Yeah I saw Stevie in Auckland back in the 80's (cool memories of Stevie for sure).. He played 'Voodoo Chile' I recall (impressive 'too say the least').

Larry Davis wrote and recorded this in 1958 and Fenton Robinson played the lead guitar later on Fenton Roninson wrote and played "someone loan me a dime" -he's worth checking out too.
The guitar is a 1959 stratocaster. SRV called it "Number 1". He uses really heavy guage strings because of all the bending he does, keeps them from breaking. AND they still break.
If Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Richie Valens and so many other great musicians have showed us one thing, it's that all musicians should be on a no fly list.
Most guitar players know (even those of us that don't read music like Stevie, and most others) Once that band has the groove going, there are nights your fingers can do amazing things. Probably the best guitar player of the past 80 years, Stevie will be missed. His Bassist, (Tommy Shannon) said in his book, this was His "Best taped performance" of his career. The only bad thing is this is at the height of his drug and alcohol problems and SRV was in a "Cocaine induced coma" an hour before this show and was roused by medical personnel with IV fluids and vitamins (hence the extra notes and sweat) to prepare him for the stage.

I saw him live every year (a couple times in some years) from 1982 to a month and a half before he died in 1990. Every show was amazing.

Larry Davis wrote and recorded this in 1958 and Fenton Robinson played the lead guitar later on Fenton Roninson wrote and played "someone loan me a dime" -he's worth checking out too.

The guitar is a 1959 stratocaster. SRV called it "Number 1". He uses really heavy guage strings because of all the bending he does, keeps them from breaking. AND they still break.
The people in attendance witnessed greatness.

He plays better behind his back than most people play regularly.
Most guitar players know (even those of us that don't read music like Stevie, and most others) Once that band has the groove going, there are nights your fingers can do amazing things. Probably the best guitar player of the past 80 years, Stevie will be missed. His Bassist, (Tommy Shannon) said in his book, this was His "Best taped performance" of his career. The only bad thing is this is at the height of his drug and alcohol problems and SRV was in a "Cocaine induced coma" an hour before this show and was roused by medical personnel with IV fluids and vitamins (hence the extra notes and sweat) to prepare him for the stage.
