When I first got into Radiohead I thought he was a gloomy guy because of his quiet personality and also due to Radiohead as a whole having a very lonely and sad vibe, sonically. It wasn't until I started watching individual interviews with Jonny that I realized what a sweet guy he really was/is. He's just very soft-spoken.
Jonny is so fascinating to listen to. He's shy and not overtly verbal in general but what he has to say is worth listening to. Met him briefly last year at his earthquake fundraiser concert at Fermo. Couldn't believe my luck!!
i met him 2 days ago! such a kind and fantastic person. i asked him to sign my pre revolution Iran flag with the lion and sun symbol. he got very excited and he started asking me questions about the flag and the fabric and he said how beautiful the flag is. i was stunned and i couldnt believe Jonny is talking to me and we're having a conversation(i was behind the venue where their bus was and fans were waiting for them) in the -2 degree temperature of montreal, all of the maybe around 200 people waiting outside were quit. we were all listening to his voice. i was stunned and couldnt believe he started talking to me. i saw Thom too we had a very little chat and he signed my flag too. such an unforgettable night!
What i love about Johnny Greenwood is his humility. Just a decent nice guy that is also an amazing musician & Composer. He can also rock as hard as any Ego driven Rock star without even trying
I read somewhere that Jonny doesn't do interviews because he gets tongue tied, but he seems incredibly well spoken and thoughtful. I really enjoyed this interview. He's such an inspiration to me.
Jonny is our living legend. This man is a genius and so much more. I feel honored to have lived in a era where he existed and Radiohead as well. 48 years old but doesn't look a day over 20..
He's a genius, there's nowhere near enough interviews out there with just him speaking. You could listen to him speak for years and you still wouldn't be able to understand his genius.
+Dandaman V Well, there are a bunch of Jonny solo interviews on this same channel, but yeah. I love Jonny interviews the most. He's a very well-spoken and intelligent--I never get enough of how he always makes some attempt at self-deprecation.
***** Yeah there's loads of really great interviews with him on this channel, but he's so shy and humble that there aren't many more out there. I will happily admit that I have a man crush on him.
+Dandaman V On Meeting People Is Easy, Colin says that Jonny doesn't really like TV interviews as he sometimes struggles to get his point across and so worries about seeming like an idiot. Not sure if this still applies after the 19 years since then but it could explain why there aren't very many interviews of him.
Station 2 yeah I guess a moon shaped pool is where the orchestral arrangements really have a presence but he's done them on earlier Radiohead albums, Climbing up the Walls, How to Disappear completely, reckoner, bloom, etc.
i guess Jonny is part of the veeery few people who generates unanimous love and goodwill in youtube comments. Actually, the only other person i know that creates this is Bob ross
James Jones I think he is probably just content to do his thing in peace and focus on that, seemingly remaining in the background, when in reality he is the fucking backbone in Radiohead in regards to skill and technique. Imo. Genius. But he prob wants to focus on just the music so he is likely fine With Thom being the center
he is so incredibly delicate in his words and music, he speaks truth through both can't speak anything else and it's nice to see someone with such an incredible ability to put themselves out there intelligently, humbly and emotionally. I miss people talking intelligently like in the 90's we absorbed so much more out of life it seemed....with far less options.
Should Radiohead cease putting-out music as a band, we will still have Mr. Greenwood - creating hauntingly beautiful, inquisitive music. We are so blessed!
interesting how his descriptions of sound in a concert environment, and it's inability to be reproduced outside of those moments, are exactly how i feel about their shows since TKOL.
I love this interview. Not least because it's the most words I've ever heard Jonny say. Everything he says about Penderecki is what we all think about him. Awesome musician. Can't wait for the new Smile release.
Right. Me as well. It’s all right there! I only am doing this because I think you might dig it (I shy away from obvious self-promo, but what the hell, yeah?)... I want to make music with that leaf idea with my drawings... www.seaholm.com
And the end, placing yourself in time. This all makes me smile wide. The leaf is how I create my music. Mapping the boundaries of each frequency. It's incredible really. Meditation also has aided in me gaining an intense focus so that I'm not a manic psycho all of the time.
playing the instruments with a plnk of wood. I remember he wanted to do 'con legno' which is using the back of the bow, but might have received complaints about using fragile expensive bows worth more than a car to do that with.
Great to hear from you, Johnny. I love all your work, especially with the guitar. You do so much with other instruments, as well. One thing you may not want to hear though, is I am a little weirded out by my opinion which is that Thom plays better at piano. I just expected you to be better with your outlook on the world. BTW my favorite band is...
Jonny writes most of the piano chords though, even on Thoms solo album. With all the instruments Jonny plays he probably doesn't get as cosy in front of a piano as Thom, who is always 1st up on piano duty.
Jonny Greenwood has been a 22 year old since 1843
tsc tsc Exactly haha
tsc tsc I thought how young he seems like hes never changed since his early 20s! ;)
Hahahahaha!!
Yep, he has to be a vampire.
Ahhhh 147 years of experience explains everything.
This is the most i've ever heard Jonny talk.
Check him out on Adam Buxtons podcast
That was a fantastic interview!
Haha got there before me
Haha I'm friends with his son Tamir and he doesn't say much to me tbh
Wait wait wait, you know Jonny in person??
I love Jonny. He seems to still have a childlike wonder about things, and always seems pretty positive. I really admire that, and strive towards that.
When I first got into Radiohead I thought he was a gloomy guy because of his quiet personality and also due to Radiohead as a whole having a very lonely and sad vibe, sonically. It's amazing, did you ask him anything?
I love quiet shy types. For empaths they say the most useful stuff:-)
i met him 2 days ago! such a kind and fantastic person. i asked him to sign my pre revolution Iran flag with the lion and sun symbol. he got very excited and he started asking me questions about the flag and the fabric and he said how beautiful the flag is. i was stunned and i couldnt believe Jonny is talking to me and we're having a conversation(i was behind the venue where their bus was and fans were waiting for them) in the -2 degree temperature of montreal, all of the maybe around 200 people waiting outside were quit. we were all listening to his voice. i was stunned and couldnt believe he started talking to me. i saw Thom too we had a very little chat and he signed my flag too. such an unforgettable night!
Radiohead still does concerts?
@@underated17probs the smile
I heard Jonny is considering aging... but not a definitive yes on it yet.
rationalmuscle he can’t be bothered
I don't think even he is capable of doing that
Hasn't happened yet
@JohnnyGreenwood how do you Not Age???
When this guy talks, I listen.
Marcin Ratajczyk Because he knows what he’s talking about
What i love about Johnny Greenwood is his humility. Just a decent nice guy that is also an amazing musician & Composer. He can also rock as hard as any Ego driven Rock star without even trying

4:39 bless you, mate.
That was Ed trying his new Sneeze pedal
ITookYourName 😁😂
I like how nobody in the comments doesn't talk about what jonny is talking about, only about jonny himself
Love how he keeps talking about "stealing" ideas. Absolutely devoid of ego, in the best way possible. God bless this man.
Jonny "Classical music is cool" Greenwood
@Angela Pequeno hahahhah!!!

Now we understand where the orchestral components of Moon Shaped Pool come from
Station 2 yeah I guess a moon shaped pool is where the orchestral arrangements really have a presence but he's done them on earlier Radiohead albums, Climbing up the Walls, How to Disappear completely, reckoner, bloom, etc.
You can also hear a big influence from Scott Walker and Wally Stott in the arrangements of In Rainbows
I think the background noices on HTTC is very similar to Scott Walker - It’s Raining Today
his solo works for films have these components
@@hippiecheezburger5457 life in a glasshouse was completely orchestra
i guess Jonny is part of the veeery few people who generates unanimous love and goodwill in youtube comments. Actually, the only other person i know that creates this is Bob ross
He is beautiful and unique and I could listen to him talk about music forever.
even if he was talking about nothing I would listen to him for days
He's so quiet, shy and intelligent.
Jonny Greenwood, insanely under appreciated.
James Jones also I’m glad that he seems to be recognized now for his genius work even among Radiohead fans
Especially as a composer.
In a convo about Radiohead, if someone isn't talking about Thom, then they're gonna be talking about Jonny. Don't think he's underappreciated at all.
Jonny is such a likeable guy. I would really want to just chat about music whith him.(which would go on for days)
he is so incredibly delicate in his words and music, he speaks truth through both can't speak anything else and it's nice to see someone with such an incredible ability to put themselves out there intelligently, humbly and emotionally. Always had the biggest crush on Jonny
me too
Omg sameee
me too
who hasn't?
Still do
Everybody gangsta, until Jonny starts talking.
Jonny Greenwood looks like an age ambiguous 20 something except he's actually in his 40s.
wouldn't it be great if jonny made a youtube account and did album reviews
jonthany jontano
kate ;D Greentano*
Abe Grimm fair play
I would be interested in what he finds to be good music these days or any time really
Definite Yes.
God I want to hug Jonny so fucking much
He has such a calming voice
I have this on while I'm working just because I love listening to him talk. He's just so intelligent and well spoken
Oh wow niceeee hahaha
The way it's edited at :58 in makes it seem like the orchestra played one note and the audience applauds.
Now I knew where that haunting sound in moon shaped pool came from. Thanks Jonny
LOVED the soundtrack of There will be blood -> researching the composer -> finding his inspiration Krzysztof Penderecki = Mind blown. Thanks for this.
So grateful he didn’t chose to become a model Instead of the genius he truly is.❤️
Listening to Johnny is a treat into his Genius.
A genius who is utterly underrated
He is my favorite guitarist.. He's is brilliant, and now I realize he has a nice voice.. 👀👀😲😲😲😲♥️♥️♥️🐾🐰
I idolise this man so much. He inspires me greatly.
Should Radiohead cease putting-out music as a band, we will still have Mr. Greenwood - creating hauntingly beautiful, inquisitive music. We are so blessed!
Great interview. It's so interesting to just see them sit down and just talk about the music they're inspired by.
what I like the most about this is that you´d never ever get jonny to talk for so long about radiohead, or his own stuff ahaha
god this video just makes me feel cozy Love to just listen to him talking
Uh he's so beautiful, i get lost in his eyes
He is so beautiful!
Amazing how in a short-film Jonny manages to have 10 different hairstyles!
love all the radiohead memorabilias in the background
This man is a Godsend
Jonny Greenwood: Looks like an Expressionist, sounds like an Impressionist.
The analogy of clouds to music was inspired Johnny.... So so true!
Nice to see the inside of Radiohead HQs.
When your teacher changes your life forever in a positive way! It's a great story to hear! A true modernist!
the way he talks is hella smooth
I find it very inspiring to hear Jonny speak so passionately, it makes me want to compose music
Since i was teenager and listen to Radiohead's 1st album, i never heard Johnny speaking at all..
Please watch Meeting People is Easy - such an amazing doc.
Since he is completely in his element he is singing like a beautiful bird...
How FANTASTIC his insight is.
hes misteriously mesmerizing
JG is a genius and he will be producing amazing music for decades.
I LOVE HIM HES SO COOL N SMART
That's one guitarist i look up too!!!!Johnny is a stud on guitar a real artist!!!!
What a brilliant interesting guy
This is the best channel, EVER. Thank you!!!
Someone said this is the most they've seen Johnny talk but when he does talk its almost poetic.
keep doing what you do my friend, so inspiring Jonny! thank you!
I wish I still had that much hair
Tony Vilaysack So does Phil
i love this man so much
He is very handsome!
Beyond😍😍😍
I just want him to be my guitar teacher.
'Good artists create. Great artists steal." -Picasso. I love it.
interesting how his descriptions of sound in a concert environment, and it's inability to be reproduced outside of those moments, are exactly how i feel about their shows since TKOL.
I feel like members of radiohead rub their faces as a hobby
It's not just Radiohead, it's pretty much everyone in Generation X.
thank you for posting this
I love this interview. Not least because it's the most words I've ever heard Jonny say.

True artist
Jonny has a marvelous persona.
That leave blew my mind.

Leaf*
Johnny's reproduction of his inspiration is what I'm using as my inspiration. A beautiful link of events. I'll see you guys on the other side soon :)
Jonny actually talks and tires to explain things much like I do, which until recently I've gone insane with liberation.
And the end, placing yourself in time. This all makes me smile wide. The leaf is how I create my music. Mapping the boundaries of each frequency. It's incredible really. Meditation also has aided in me gaining an intense focus so that I'm not a manic psycho all of the time.
Of all the Jonny Jon Jons, he’s up there with you know who.
he's a cool guy
Lots of his new stuff has still got elements that are still very...*sneeeeze*
hes a fucking god on the electric guitar when you see him live.
he should make a podcast
All I want is to be an unparalleled musical genius like Johnny Greenwood
2.00 burn the witch (?)
YUUUP
definitely he's got some inspiration from that, haha nice
i was astonished by the similarities
+Mehdi B it's really crazy, glad to see that i'm not the only one who notice this

awesome interview! thanks!
Podcast with Johnny!!
Jonny is a genius with the added bonus of the most incredible, beautiful hair….
Ok but jonny's voice its just so fucking hot

I've honestly never seen his face until now.

Ladies & gentleman, James Brown. Jaaaaaames Brown
He didn't age as bad as Thom did wow
Thom is doing the aging for both of them
I think Thom looks better than ever. He finally looks comfortable in his own skin
yeah youre right, he doesnt look ackward anymore. thanks for the light on that.
Thom just doesn’t give a shit lol works well for him
He's also the youngest member of the band
I'm always back here
