* 힙당동이라고 들어보셨나요?
가로수길, 경리단길, 연남동, 성수동에 이어 신당동이 새롭게 뜨고 있습니다.
신당동이라고 하면 우리는 가장 먼저 떡볶이를 떠올리게 됩니다.
마복림 할머니에 의해 떡볶이가 생겨나고 엽기 떡볶이의 본점도 있는 곳으로 유명하지만 최근에는 작고 특이한 카페들이 하나둘 생겨나면서 힙스터들 사이에서는 이미 유명한 동네입니다.
하지만 아직은 다른 유명한 장소들에 비해 덜 개발되어서 오히려 새로운 가게들과 옛날 가게들의 조화가 매우 이색적입니다.
신당동에는 1950년대와 1960년대에 서울 최대의 양곡시장이 있었습니다.
그래서 '싸전거리'라는 곳에는 아직도 쌀가게들이 있고, 이곳에서 고 현대 정주영 회장이 청년시절 점원으로 일을 하기도 했습니다.
그 밖에도 가구거리와 서울 중앙 시장도 있으니 가보실 것을 추천드립니다.
Have you heard of Hipdang-dong? Following Garosu-gil, Kyungridan-gil, Yeonnam-dong, and Seongsu-dong, Sindang-dong is emerging as a new trendy area. When we think of Sindang-dong, the first thing that comes to mind is tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes). It is famous for the creation of tteokbokki by Grandma Mabokrim and the original location of Yeopgi Tteokbokki.
However, recently, the neighborhood has gained popularity among hipsters due to the emergence of small and unique cafes. While it is not as developed as other well-known places, Sindang-dong offers a unique blend of new and old establishments, creating an unconventional atmosphere.
In the past, Sindang-dong was home to Seoul's largest grain market in the 1950s and 1960s. There are still rice stores in a place called "ssajeon-geori," and it's worth noting that Hyundai Group's founder, Chairman Chung Ju-yung, used to work as a clerk in his youth at this market.
In addition to the rice market, there is a furniture street and Seoul Central Market in Sindang-dong. I recommend visiting to experience the harmony of new and old businesses in this distinctive neighborhood.
