Thanks for yet another clear and concise in-depth review on this Uni-T DMM/VOM Darren! BTW, I hope that you are doing well my friend. I am also of the same mindset as you, when it comes to Uni-T's test equipment; it is always very accurate, worth their asking MSRP price, and the build quality is really up there along with the "big names". In some cases, Uni-T is just as good, in my unsolicited $0.02 worth of opinions. Stay awesome Darren! Fred
Cheers Fred !! Indeed UNI-T is blazing away in test instrument land ..! They are incredibly good at making things better for us multimeter junkies!😊 They offer incredibly fair prices too. I'm really happy to be doing another UNI-T WEEK. Keep On Testing! 👍
I've got it for more than a year now and it became my absolutely favorite multimeter on the bench. Great build quality in my opinion, accurate, I am very happy that it beeps on diode (also beeps continuously when reads short on diode), I like that it shows two digits after the point on ohm's range up to 100 ohms.. It is very comfortable, the rubber on the stand is also a plus. Great multimeter, especially for that price.
I have several Uni-t meters, but this is my goto one. The reason is I had a CVA,turning the usual knob is hard work for my hand, but pressing a button is as easy as a breeze for me.
I have this unit, it is ridiculously accurate mA DC current metering. Doing a parasitic draw test on automobiles is super precise compared to my Klein MM325. To compare: The DC 12v current draw down test on my van was 0.00A on the MM325. On the UT60S I get a reading of 8.2 mA which is crazy sensitive from the 10A port. This makes it perfect for automotive diag. Also the ADC of this unit is quite fast too.
Troubleshooters love Fluke's smart diode mode (from 0.2v to 0.8v gives a beep). A fantastic idea is for you to rate DMM's copying that famed Fluke audio feedback. 5 series germanium diodes (each .2v drop) on the test jig would suffice.
My meter just arrived. Your videos really helped on choosing what to get. I was opting to get the ut61e version but was to pricy for my use so i got this instead.
Hi sir. Just got hold of a lithium ion AAA battery that charges via usb c. It has a buck converter to lower the li ion voltage to 1.5v. i have used it on my meter and it turns on fine. My question is, will it have any affect on the accuracy of the meter? Does the ripple on the buck converter output affect the meter readings sir? Thanks so much😁
If you want to see a record breaker in terms of continuity, may I suggest uni-t ut123t. Got mine for about $18. Tiny size, limited features but cute AF, really handy and nice, flexy leads, impossible to skip a continuity beep.
Completely agree with you Darren. Pretty good model to buy. The relay works well, the screen is quite informative, there is voltage protection ... Nice case (not like the latest HoldPeak models, it's just terrible in what condition they come from China. They made the 770D very cheap). In general, everything is very decent. Deserved rating. I would like to see more screening, because for Unit it costs nothing to do, it's a shame. But at this price, few people really have a protective screen, and not an imitation.
Another well made example in the more recent line of UniT products, and I actually prefer it doesnt select its own range for some reason - but when it comes to smart meters in general I still kinda fail to see any big advantage of adding all the complexity of a relay and rigging the meter to select part of the ranges and such to make it a push button design, seems a little gimmicky in a way & seems like it should have a much batter cap range - but I really like it does have an excellent continuity range with loud beep and visual indicator thats as fast as the signal is. The NCV really stands out compared to MANY other meters, its actually useable, and one more time what is up with the short time backlights - arent we done with that whole thing YET??
That's a lot of meter for that price. Do like the selection buttons that light up. Looks like they have done a neat job with the build, will be interesting to see what else you have to review. I have been looking at their process calibrators, don't suppose they sent you one though.
Maybe try putting in a resistor or AC volts after it turns on to see if it's really smart. Nice touch on illuminated buttons, shame it couldn't be all of them (at least when the backlight's on) and REL is on the HOLD button. Unfortunate they didn't solder fill the high current traces on the board (I'm addicted to current measurements), it seems to have the solder mask made for it. Review a clamp meter next, does UNI-T have an itty bitty sized one?
I nearly switched off when you mentioned 3 AAA batteries. Actually I have a UT123D smart meter.. and it's pretty bad to be honest. A couple of years back, I picked a brand new UT195DS on sale from an Amazon seller for about USD70. Then earlier this year I noticed that seller still had one of these new “old stock” UT195DS up for sale, but now for only USD55… and of course I bought that. The UT195DS is a rock-solid meter, because this was the time when UNI-T was trying to make a name for itself in regards to quality. Sadly, after establishing their brand, it looks like UNI-T has heavily gone down the cost cutting path... all business do it, so I can’t blame them. But I fully recommend picking up any of the old PRO series meter if you can find any new old stock out there.. absolute bargain and absolute satisfaction. As for new UNI-T meters… meh…
Wow..I honestly have never heard anything negative about the UT123D...it's cheap and spunky. Sad to hear you disagree. I don't agree that UNI-T has gone downhill..just the opposite. The new multimeters are really impressive and many now have the proper safety certs as well..I agree the older 195 series was good 👍 still is too 😃 Glad you didn't switch off!
@@KeepOnTesting I’ll give the 123 the fact that is cheap, looks pretty, is compact and has a nice display, but that’s about it really. It is glacial in updating (check my latest video), difficult to get the range you want, auto-off is annoying because once it goes off you need to fiddle around to get back to the range you were using, its actually too lightweight, and without a stand even more annoying to position anywhere... Finally, I often find the garbage leads supplied not being fully seated, leaving my scratching my head why I am reading an open circuit.. Now I can forgive the 2 AAA batteries for a compact meter like the 123, but for the UT60 it seems like a slap in the face. Sure, the 123 was cheap, maybe was only about USD20, but even so, I felt sure that UNI-T would have done better, and they could have done better, so it is still disappointing (it’s also the reason I bought the second UT195DS - I mean $55!). Looking at this review for the UT60, there is nothing here that makes me feels much better about the direction of UNI-T, so I think it is worth calling a spade a spade so that they can improve, and give us the amazing meters, at amazing prices, that we are all hoping for.
The best smart meter on the market! Because it's not actually smart, just button operated. 🙂 But I really like those illuminated buttons. One of my main complaints about smart meters is that without the rotary switch you have to rely on those tiny icons on the display to read the current mode. I find it really uncomfortable. With backlit buttons it should be easier on the eyes. 💡💡💡
Nice DMM. I appreciate highly the lack of the usual rotary switch. Much less wear and somehow more comfortable. Nice would have been: Illumination of all buttons (at least if the BL is on), marking the active one with a different color. 10000 Counts, Diode Test Beep, sensitive NCV, Input alert, independent testing (ETL Label), LED for continuity and NCV, pretty big crisp easy readable dual display ... - all well done, Uni-T. Only a little work at the precision and accuracy seems still necessary. Low current fused with a self healing fuse? How long stays the backlight on? "Real" bargraph or updating only with the display? BTW: The DMM has a REL function and the yellow LED in your test PCB is still very suspicious to me... and somehow I was missing your complaining about the lack of a shielding in the back???
@@KeepOnTesting idk. i just use it mainly for voltage, diode + resistance. i think it related to jack detection(lead when select current mode). i remove 3 transistor from multimeter and now it can select other mode than current mode. will investigate further becaude now it have 400mv when open in voltagr mode. also strange value in ohm and diode mode
I paid almost £30 for one of these. Also the bargraph of the UT60S is useless and due to the total automatism the multimeter works a bit slower than the UT60BT/UT60EU with the gallet switch.
