I think my problem with Heavensward is that that doesn't actually happen. The dragon plot is so dominant that the class conflict feels minor, and for all this place being about Halone worship is emphasized, we never learn anything about Halone or that faith. People hate on Stormblood but it does a much better job at world building, so I hope for a HW format with SB quality world building.

I hope to, that it would be more in the direction of ARR.
After whe traveled to the end of the universe and have probally beaten most of the ancient power houses, and saved multiple worlds, is it time to go back for a smaller scale story. The world would need time to create new dangerous things. Or, they simply are hided in the other continents.
I even hoped, that whe would meet a new group in the next expantion, away of the scions. And, that the new expantion could be a check point for new players, to start allready there, instant of has the need to play tought all earlier storys (that the chara is than a new person, similary to 1.0-2.0, for new player). And, that the scions would maybe only have some guest appearance.
The game of thrones setting is ok. And, it has the chance, to set up new strings for the next arc (most expantion from arr to stormblood mostly setted up strings, who than came to a end in shadowbringer and endwalker).

It is said that the 2nd umbral Calamity is when civilizations fell from the heavens and dispersed to all corners of the planet. The technology caused great polution and the civilizations went underground. very very similar to what we see from the picture of Heritage Found and Im guessing that Solution 9 is a simulated city recapturing what the 2nd Civilization was.

    solution 1-7 were the cataclysms.

Overall I liked EW. The 6.0 was amazing content, and really 6.1-6.4 was solid. There are a few things people are missing. Yes, XVI might of caused some of the issues, but let's not forget the content they did add. They gave us a new deep dungeon, like the player base requested. We got new content in the form of Variant/Criterion dungeons. While the Variant/Criterion's didn't fully land, I do not think it was bad content, it just needs some tweaks because the concept is cool imho. We also got two ultimate fights.
The thing people seem to forget because it didn't effect them, is the biggest undertaking they did during the patch cycles. One thing they did which I feel will be critical to FFXIV's future success. They went back, and from patch to patch added the Trust system to all the older MSQ dungeons. This will be critical to help players who are new to the game. So yes, this cost us some end game, or stuff like Eureka/Bozja, but for the future of the game was a critical update to old content that was needed, and probably took quite a bit of resources that would of been used for the field op zones.

They tried a lot of new stuff and while not all of the new stuff was for everyone, a lot of players were still happy with it, and that's what counts imo. The game has a ton of variety and as such content for everyone. Endwalker was the first expansion I played at end cap, and I really see nothing wrong with it. Endwalker was a phenomenal expansion, something I didn't think stood a chance compared to Shadowbringers, but was nearly equal and sometime superior in many ways. I have a TON of stuff to do and haven't run out... Not sure what all the fuss was about Endwalker's endgame... Honestly I have no idea how Dawntrail can even come close to the last two expansions.

Im always feeling weird for casting spells in Nier raids, now we get entire modern City. How will it fit into "Fantasy" perspective? It doesnt mean there couldnt be combination of both, many FF titles had it, but it was always compromise(steam punk, fantasy punk). My point is, im curious how they going combine those styles to not make it feel like throwing rocks at the tank.

In ff xiv's case I would prefer if it didn't limit itself to one style. I feel this game could be an exception to that rule, especially when this game has already blended many styles. Especially considering this game has been out 10+ years, it could use some variety. I want to see the world evolve and expand, as imo thats the best part of a Fantasy game, it doesn't have to limit itself.

I’m extremely excited for Dawntrail, I have no expectations for story or anything I’m just interested to see where a new story takes us and what new content we get. I definitely think we got a bit of a XVI tax but also a setting up the next 10 years tax. With the end of the 10 year arc it makes sense that they are thinking what can we do to improve the game for the long run. With them updating early content and making it more solo friendly to maybe streamline it a bit more to graphics updates and a second dye option and other QOL stuff. It’s felt like a long time waiting for Dawntrail but I’m excited for the future of this game.

  • @chrisanderson7820

What if Solution 9 has absolutely no link to the past story line. It could be something completely separate, like a new Star's civilisation discovered via interstellar travel. We have two potentially limitless avenues for new expansions, obviously the Reflections sure but also the universe as it opened up to us via the Ragnarok & Ultima Thule. If they really wanted to break from the past they could completely depart from Eitherys (or branch and do both). Build a space dock on the moon and begin building a fleet of Ragnaroks. Space opera, interstellar war ...

Nah. The primary complaint about Island Sanctuary was that it felt like a crappy time gated mobile game. It was never supposed to be a replacement for housing.
The problem was that everything revolved around the workshop and there wasn't really anything to do once you'd set it up for the week.
You fix island sanctuary by having it use the gathering and crafting systems that already exist within the game. No level requirements, so you can play the content even if you didn't have them levelled yet, and you could even level them up by crafting and gathering in island sanctuary.

It would be cool if they added Free Company instances of Island Sanctuary. It would give FC's that can't get a house a group gathering spot which they can decorate. @@DICEBOY22 I wish the points of interest that we built were for people to use instead of mammets, and they had more interactions. Why does the roller coaster not work?!? What a missed opportunity. The playground you build for the Fairy tribal quests is more fun. I really enjoyed the Tataru quests where she brought guests to the island, and I wish we could have NPC guests all the time, and the island was more of a resort that we built. For instance we could have a restaurant where we craft food recipes weekly for the restaurant. Or we could construct a mini water playground on the beach for NPCs to play on. How fun would it be if Alpha and Omega showed up? Or any of the NPCs that we don't see much anymore? Regarding the mystery of Solution 9, by logical inference, most veterans already know its role in the gameplay: It's going to be the endgame hub, like Eulmore or Radz-at-Han. It's where you will eventually go for your tome, raid and scrip materials and gear. This is known because on the FFXIV youtube channel, showcase videos for zones are either titled with "New Area" or "New Town". Tuliyollal and Solution 9 have the "New Town" label. This confirms they are hub areas and it's a given that Tuliyollal is the starting hub due to it being featured so much in the trailer. That leaves the only other option which is for Solution 9 to be the endgame hub.
So ultimately it means Solution 9 while looking really exotic and out of place, is likely going to be treated as "just another zone" like Mare Lamentorum. It's not a twist or a surprise because those cases would not even have any showcase videos on TH-cam at all to avoid massive spoilers (eg. Elpis). Of course there is still the question of why is it so high-tech but the FFXIV world already has high-tech and sci fi thanks to magitek and the allagans so it's not even all that much of a stretch that another civilisation could also be high-tech, the writers just have to invent some lore to explain it.

Westerners don't understand how Japanese storytelling works and that Final Fantasy XIV's story follows a structure pretty much ubiquitous to their writing (it's so common, it's even used in Japanese adverts) called Kishotenketsu. Basically, it's a four-act story structure where the first two acts (ki and sho) are an introduction to the setting and characters, followed by more of a deep dive into those settings and characters as the plot progresses, but then the real story actually begins in the third act (ten) with a massive shift that completely recontexualises the entire story. Then the final act is a resolution and conclusion in the aftermath of the shift.
Every Final Fantasy XIV storyline follows this structure (in A Realm Reborn, the shift happens when Gaius uses the Ultima Weapon on Garuda, Titan and Ifrit; in Heavensward, The Vault is the shift; in Stormblood, the introduction of the Resonant is the big shift in the story; in Shadowbringers, it happens quite late with the post-Innocence fight; and in Endwalker, it's Elpis) so anyone judging Dawntrail's story from first appearances has no understanding of how Japanese storytelling works. It even holds true I think for every Final Fantasy game story. Somewhere around the level 97-mark, expect a massive shift that completely recontextualises the story and reveals what it is truly about. So far all we know is the race to find the "Golden City" (probably Solution 9), something to do with Valigarmanda, and that one of the contestants mustn't win because they want to invade the Three Great Continents now the Garlean Empire has fallen - these will be our first two acts, and whatever will be in Act 3, they probably will not reveal (or if they do, it will be like how they had a Meteion line in the Endwalker Launch Trailer, as well as out-of-context clips of Ultima Thule and The Dead Ends where we don't know what's happening, or how in the Shadowbringers launch trailer they showed clips of Amaurot). We'll probably find the Golden City by Level 95 or 96 at the latest. The Launch trailer is always the thing to wait for, and especially pay attention to anything seemingly small or random that seem inexplicable without context because chances are they're the most important things (and not the big, shocking reveals).

I think a lot of people missed, or maybe forgot, that we didnt have more to the relic system not because of constraints from FF16, but because they wanted more resources going towards Dawntrail. When initially announcing that it was going to be tied to Hildabrand quests and that it would be more laid back and closer to Heavensward relics, he cited the reason as needing more of that devtime towards Dawntrail specifically.
Probably also why it was the perfect time to introduce Zero, and the Void story, able to reuse simple types of assets and mobs and laying the foundation of future stories and utilizing that extra dev time towards Dawntrail again. It's the next era in FFXIV's life, and it's definitely going to go crazy.

At this point, it's not too farfetched to think the new expansion is not what it appears to be. Back in Shadowbringer launch, Yoshi P downplayed the expansion to be a comprobable experience to other singleplayer RPG. But in reality, it far exceeded a lot of people's expectations when it came to the storytelling. Some even claiming it's the best they experienced. I've heard that the writers of Sorrow of Werlyt was involved in the new expansion. If true, we have something significant here.

Many people have their reasons for not currently playing. We all know someone who says.. they’re taking a break. Being burnt out. There’s no content. Nothing for them to do. Playing other games at the moment. I saw the same reasons post-Shadowbringers. Only to see massive waiting queues once Endwalker was released. After the ending to current storyline, it's kinda hard to just immediately live up to that now.
So I feel like this is gonna bring us back to the older style. It's just a new adventure. I feel like it'll be more focused and down to earth. Kinda like arr and heavensward.
After killing the literal gods of the world and realm, and averting the apocalypse for like the 10th time, what do you do?
    Gotta start somewhere lol.
I'm worried about how character progression is gonna go. With classes now coming in so close to the caps, the sense of progression is just kinda gone. I'm wondering if we might not actually be building up to the next MMO tbh.

From the very beginning we've been shown that world ending threats can rise from pretty much anywhere. The sky's the limit with Primals. Any one of them can become a world ender if their following grows enough. Creations can far surpass the power and intentions of their creators as with the Endsinger.
