    Hi Noel thanks for this review.
    If you had a seaside in your quiver would the NB2 be too much overlap in your quiver ? NB3 sounds maybe more likely to fill the lack of performance from the seaside in bigger waves?

      The NB3 carries more glide compared to the OG so it paddles better and offers more down the line speed for me. The NB3 is also shorter in length for stock DIMS so it goes better in smaller waves as it fits in tighter transitions better. Overall I like the NB3 better as a Daily Driver compared to the OG for So Cal waves. The RW Squash Tail carries more speed down the line compared to the NB3 and it seems to be faster from turn to turn due to it's wider tail block. However the NB3 offers more hold, and control in 4-6' surf. The NB3 also offers more Drive on rail compared to the RW Squash Tail and OG Flyer.

    Hi Noel. Thanks for the review. I've been riding a 5'7 (almost 28.7 liters) RW's as a daily driver for years and loved them. I recently bought a 5'8 NB 3 (29.2 liters) and I honestly been struggling to make the board go immediately ( I feel the RW would just go from the get go, and this one doesn't do that for me). I had some moments in more punchy waves where the board felt good (specially turning it), but not what I had with my RW's in terms of standing up and going. I'm definitely a heavy front footed surfer so maybe it's a question of shifting my weight back more. I just ordered some quads to see I that help the cause. Any advice would be welcome. Cheers!

    Hi Noel ! Great review, loved it ! This year being almost finished, what would be your go-to surfboard as a one board quiver 3-6 feet waves (beach break) ? For someone going down the line and working of basic maneuvers (beginner-intermediate) ? I was expecting the NB3 with this eggy outline, with a forgiving front foot placement, good paddling ... but maybe it's a bit too high performance oriented !
    Keep up the good work !

  • @tokyomassa22
    @tokyomassa22 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great review and comparison. Question - a lot of the time you talk about surfers being front/neutral/back footed while surfing, and in this video describe the NB2 tail sliding on cutbacks for front footed, but not back footed surfers. Footed-ness isn’t really discussed in the context of carver exercises or learning to surf, almost as if it’s just how someone naturally surfs. Is it something that can be manipulated and trained? Could a front footed surfer just hit their cutback back footed to prevent sliding out etc. ?

    • @dan1e1473
      @dan1e1473 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Many goofy footers are front footed, becouse their dominant leg is on the front of the board. So it's not entirelly optional, but it can be trained.

    • @jakedavid2523
      @jakedavid2523 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Watch his surfing tutorials. He goes over this on a carver. You can feel it on a surfskate. They way you have your weight on either foot. Feel the board on you heel and toe of you back foot. If your front footed on a carver you will slide out on hard turns because they are so short. If you push with your back foot you will hold and accelerate through turns on a carver.

    Hi Noel, sick review. My HPSB (a DHD) just buckled on me so in the market for a new board for good conditions. I mainly surf our local cobble reefs here in South OC. For reference, I'm upper-end intermediate level. Also open to getting a daily driver or '1-board quiver' that performs well in mid to larger waves (4-8') and clean conditions. I already have a small-mid wave board I like. What do you recommend for an HPSB or high performing daily driver for the conditions I'm looking for? I'm considering Neckbeard 3, Hayden Shapes Holy Hypto, Pyzel Phantom, Pyzalien, Chilli Black Vulture, JS Happy Everyday, and JS Xero Gravity. Open to other suggestions too. Thanks so much.

    Hello Noel, great review once more. Had a NB1 for 6 Years, just had a chance to dial in a NB3 custom. This went along the lines with your review putting it more in a daily driver range. I always loved the idea to repurpose the agility of the NB1 in slightly bigger waves. The NB3 seems to be able to do that. Am 6'0 and 170.
    I stretched out the length a bit, to a 5'10, keeping the rest stock, my old NB1 is a 5'8. To enter more steep Indonesian type waves. Also went for the EPS + Spine Tech.
    What is your take on this board with Spine Tech vs lighter stringer version. Any prefernce?
    Do you think stretching the board for more accessibility in slightly bigger waves is sensible?

    Great review. I have the NB2 and, as front footer, I do have issue with the board when it is 4+ foot with high period. From 1 to 1 foot the board is TOP. (unless the wave is really mushy). Now my question, with exactly the same dimensions the NB3 has a bit less volume so, to keep the my volume of 29.4 L I will either need to request a thicker board (2 3/8 to 2 7/16 or a longer one (from 5.9 to 5.10). Since the rail is medium, do you think a thicker board can be more tricky to turn ? THanks

    I'm a 43 year old intermediate/advanced surfer who surf French beachbreaks. I currently surf 2 boards : a fishbeard PU (I love it) and a quiver killer carbon wrap by lost (I surf it for many years). I'm looking now for a new user friendly shortboard for 3 - 5' (up to 6') beachbreak surf. I want to work on my turns, push harder and have fun. I found 2 boards at a good price in my liter range : a neckbeard 3 spine tech and a white noiz future flex (durability is a criteria for me). Which one would have your preference for that program?

    Thanks Wiggoly Salas. NB2 looks better under your feet, NB3 looks like a NB2 step up like you were getting at. Hey Noel, as a thruster you’d use a pivot fin in large? What would the benefit of a large fin be over the medium?

    • @surfnshowreviews7777
      @surfnshowreviews7777  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A large pivot fin offers more drive due to the wider base and because a pivot template is so upright it will still be loose. A medium Pivot fin feels really loose but it’s hard to generate speed down the line when there is nothing to push off of. I rode a medium pivot fin 1 time and hated it… my board felt super loose with no drive.

      I prefer Fiberglass or Carbon fins for true turns. I’ve found that speed generating fins or NEO Glass fins flex out at the peak of turn when the waves are 2-3’+. In 1-2’ mushy surf they go good. Honeycomb fins will often flex out too in waves 3-4’.+ surf.

      They have a wider base compared to some of the more popular Twin + Trailers like the MR’s, T1’s, Akila Aipa’s etc…. With that being said… a little more drive, hold, and control.They will go good in most Grovelers, Daily Driver boards in small waves due to more fin base.
      I have also been riding them in certain Twin Fin boards without using a trailer and they go insane.

      Bullseye seems to have a bit more rocker so the NB3 has more glide and speed down the line. The NB3 is smoother rail to rail so it has better flow too. The Bullseye might handle a little more surf but it’s close

    I even surf my NB2 with MR - twin+1 fins. Felt like ever since i've started to do more rail to rail surfing and not relying on the fins and for the first time i could reach that feel of a decent release or slip. Not sure why, but somewhat i find it working great. Would you have any opinions on that?
    If there surf get bigger than head high then i normally take my normal hpsb out with a thruster. And buying MF (rake) fins is next thing on my list to try it out with NB2 and see.

    At the local shop i've been advised to either go with the HS Hypto Kryto 6"2 38.4LT or the CI Neck Beard 38.2LT....I'm jumping from my 6"6 pyzel gremlin 44LT into a more performance focus board aiming to keep progressing my surf. I usually surf average beach breaks with waves from 2-6FT and being an 85KG and 1,87m tall its allways hard for me to pick a board that is shorter ( aiming for 6"2 ), playful and still with volumes around 37LT (since I only surf for 1 and half years). Which board would you advise? The HS Hypto Kryto, the CI Neck Beard or any other board?
