    That was exactly what all motor racing should be about - roaring engines, lot of overtaking, poweslides and also a few crashes :) They should be showing this on the telly instead of Formula 1.

      Jeston Aylen nah, there'll still be that for this. Neil is good, true) The only better option is a second Neil. There should probably be a kickstarter campaign to clone him, or maybe just find one more camera man.

      zloychechen5150 I guarantie you at the some point in the quiet near future we will establish ways of synthesizing "fossil" fuels. We can actually do it now, but prices are way to high (and the oil industry not really interested)
      Liquid fuels are just a great way of storing energy

  • @MrPanohead
    @MrPanohead 9 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    Chris Ward has a beautiful, fluid driving style. The way he carries speed through the chicane is unbelievable (and the two wheels on the grass during overtaking quite ballsy.)

    • @3storiesUp
      @3storiesUp 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    17:30 the way Chris looks out of shot you can just tell Tiff was being a nuisance in the way that only Tiff can. And then the way he wanders off muttering ‘I wish I had a miss fire’. Legend

    I don't know what is more impressive... Your 2nd place in a Rover, that little Mini, or the fact that the fastest car out there was a 70's Camaro! LOL. It looked like a blast. Congrats.

    • @theeoddments960
      @theeoddments960 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Second gen camaros especially later ones had amazing suspensions it was really an opposite to the cars 15-20 years before it. Shitty engine good handling. In contrast to the monsters of the 60’s all motor no suspension. You can bet your ass he isn’t running a single oem part in that engine though.

  • @akadanielmaia
    @akadanielmaia 9 ปีที่แล้ว +86

    That Camaro sounds glorious.

    • @Sturmovik1946
      @Sturmovik1946 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Daniel Maia Sounds so raw, especially cool looking with the flames sputtering about the exhaust.

    • @DocWolph
      @DocWolph 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I'll make an assumption you are talking about the Camaro...
      In the 70s at least a few Trans-Am teams wanted to swap the SLA with the IRS from the C2 Corvette. The C3 was too narrow I guess. But Cambered controlled Swing axles would be easily to parlay. But the Race judges disallowed it. Stupid move really.
      Anyway, I could see you doing that.

    • @DocWolph
      @DocWolph 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      You would not need to do that. Just look up C2 Corvette rear suspension. The Jaguar E-type looks roughly the same but is much less robust and has inboard brakes.
      When I said "swing axle" you might have pictures the VW Beetle (I don't know the year VW finally fixed that) or pre-1968 Chevy Corvair. Trust me when you actually look at this stuff you will understand , and a C2 rear end swap will be just fine.

    • @DocWolph
      @DocWolph 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      I would also be a matter of what actually fits. I can see a lot of rebuilding and modifications. and since you can built the C2 IRS from mod parts its not really a matter of what you can find.
      Also the moment you need to do any brake work you ware going to hate that Jaguar XJ rear end. Its the major reason why no one uses inboard brakes anymore.
      It's also not period or manufacture correct nor does it look at all as durable..
      That said, its not MY money. You do what you want, just make sure you actually want to do it and want it done. Again do some searches and actually look first before going with the European thing because its European. The GM suspension is better for your GM.
      That's all. Anymore and it'll just get to be an ugly argument for nothing.

      @GODOFGUITAR2112 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Honestly there isn't really a difference in the actual car. I have a '79 and it is a wonderful car. The nice thing about the face-lifted ones is that they are much cheaper for basically the same car.

  • @DavidKAnderson
    @DavidKAnderson 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Another brilliant video Chris, Goodwood is such a good venue for making these type of videos and your ability to get a drive in a competitive car has to be the icing on the cake. Your drive in the Lister is still my favorite, but this one is right up there with it and I hope that Chris Ward gets a few more fans from his epic drive on your channel. Rover went to crap after dumping out that Buick motor. The 215 is a rare thing here in the USA because it’s dwarfed by other v8s of the time and cars got bigger after it was made but I love how Britain took and expanded on the engine. They really made it breathe as soon as they had their hands on it. Good breathing is a thing all Buick motors struggle with. I should know.

      @@theeoddments960 In the early 90s Rover were developing a KV8 to replace it but it just didn't produce enough torque. They lopped off two cylinders though - hence why the KV6 had a 90-degree vee.

    Everything racing should be. Street cars stripped and equipped for racing. No crazy aero (Chin spoiler and deck spoiler or small wing), no monstrous engine upgrades, rather permissive as to what cars are allowed (Mini coopers Vs Camaros vs FB RX-7s Vs Ford Capris vs et al), drifting as natural and necessary technique to get around faster...
    This is what I picture as real Trans-Am being, with more American cars and newer cars naturally. But still. THIS IS WHAT AMERICA NEEDS. Not a mildly tweaked NASCAR, or Indycars that look like insane collections of shaving razors. Car people can buy from the local dealer, that you or you friend/neighbor/rival may be driving, out actually racing.

    It's official. Harry Metcalfe from Evo plus Chris Harris from /Drive plus Tiff Nedell from 5th Gear would make the ultimate next generation hosts for British Top Gear. Matt, Mike, and Jay Leno would be pretty good in America as well (although I think Tanner Foust does a great job currently).

    congratulations on your P2 - great drive from both of you! Very nice to see those different car's dicing, not to mention racing with cars that actually slide and go fast at the same time is soooo much more fun towatch than it is now with the super grippy tires and super stiff suspensions. Good stuff!

    Chris' videos really come alive with his 'journeys'. The car reviews are ok but it's the journeys and adventures that he does that really help bring the viewer along....

    Hahaha fantastic!
    Rovers not very common here in Australia, but I loved my SD1!
    Had the 4.4 block from the Aussie leyland P76 with the 3.5 heads, 3" exhaust running LPG only with gas research throttle body.
    Sounded bloody great, went like the clappers and surprised the hell out of (beat) a lot of commodores and falcons!
    Love Harris's work!
