I study at the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava and visited the wetlands around Istragov just before this summer during a rainy day. I cannot express how happy I am to see Dunajské Luhy get the attention they need. It is such a beautiful region that is sadly overshadowed by the Gabčíkovo-Nagymaros waterworks (even though they are a marvel of engineering). Also as a land surveyor and geodesy student I can only dream of surveying such a beautiful piece of land. Definitely looking forward to more videos.
This video actually moved me to tears, I'm so proud to support such a wonderful crew doing excellent projects such as this, at a time when the news always seems bad about climate and ecosystems.
I worked a couple of years in Canada's Northwest Territories, an area of tundra with thousands of lakes. Part of the job entailed pollution abatement measurements of the water quality surrounding the mine sites (the mine was several kilometres from the mill site). I was wearing a heavy checked shirt (think lumberjack) which made counting mosquitoes a bit easier. On many occasions I calculated my total personal mosquito population to be in the thousands. It was impossible to work with any exposed skin. Unless you were this one summer student who was working with the surveying team. He regularly took no anti-mosquito steps (no DEET, no mesh head cover, no long sleeves etc) but somehow remained largely ignored by the ravenous skeeters. The old timers set me straight. No scented soaps, light coloured clothing, plenty of DEET (which frequently dissolved certain plastics found in many things you might be wearing) are the way to go, better yet, stay indoors.
@@docostlerI’m a bit like that. We were visiting some relatives, and towards the evening when the mosquitos showed up in great numbers, I was untouched in a T-shirt while others couldn’t bear to be outside anymore with more protection.
@@AnotherDuck I have to admit there were rumblings of witchcraft about the guy! (jk) I think we were overly disappointed that he had no secret method to share. Well done you for your, I assume, genetic superiority.
@@spagooter1807Of course we have beavers, Europe is huge and vast many countries are entirely different. Slavic countries have many bears and beavers like in America when you get closer to the mountain regions and forests. Most people that live with them dont like them because of the damage of property they bring. They flood entire roads till they look like lakes and leave fallen trees everywhere. Maybe they do good elsewhere but they are brutal here😅
We have this in Brazil. It’s called “Pantanal”. It’s the world's largest tropical wetland area, and the world's largest flooded forest. Depending on the time of the year, it gets dry and then ready to be flooded again. It’s really rare and interesting!
Good for Brazil. Well done. But still you are allowing illegal cutting and burning in the Amazon on a huge scale and fucking up The worldwide climate as a result, not to mention killing hundreds of species.

I just found this channel and as an avid nature lover, having done as much as I could to protect our planet, this channel is the most inspired I've felt in my life. I wish you all God's speed in your work and I an eager to follow along!
It was good to see so many of you fighting to protect the natural wonders of my homeland, the Csallóköz region, which the Slovak megalomania is still trying to destroy day by day. It is a great achievement that you have been able to achieve flooding in this corrupt system, because the floodplain is slowly becoming a holiday area where there is no place for water and nature. I hope that one day the right and left sides of the Danube land delta can be reunited!
All we can do is work to try to make a better future possible! You come from a beautiful place. I hope it will go in the right direction. - Cheers, Duarte
In this case, a hydropower system has been built on a plain, where several dams are needed to raise the water level. This cuts off the river from the branch system, the groundwater is lowered (other negative effects can be seen in the videos). All the water is manually controlled to flow down one of the longest rivers in Europe, which means that all the sediment is deposited at the dams and slowly accumulates in the reservoir, making it impossible to function in the long term. A bit crazy, no? Sure, it has its benefits, but overall it's not a good thing that it was built, but it had to be built....
(My first TH-cam comment ever...I think) This is just awesome! To see and hear how alive it is, is completely magical. Thank you for the work you do for our planet and those beings that can't protect themselves and thank you for sharing this journey with us!

Watching this fills my heart and makes me wanna cry. I'm so happy to be part of this work even if just indirectly, as a monthly contributor. Great work, guys!
This has to be one of my favorite projects so far! It's amazing to see how much life can be supported by flooding the forest. The amphibian spawn at 6:47 seems to be a bit too wide for Bufotes viridis or Bufo bufo, it's probably from Pelobates fuscus instead.
Loved to see the impact that my little help can have in the hands of passionate and prepared people! Are you planning on releasing a follow up video on the Desertas islands any time soon? It was the first one I saw and I'd love to see that the reproduction and even reintroduction are going well
I loved this so much I shared to my FB wall. A lot of people don't know, the more you interact-like leaving comments, sharing to social media, that also helps your channel grow, and you do SUCH IMPORTANT WORK! I'm an old lady but seeing all the frogs not only reminded me of my youth (I LOVED finding and seeing from the eggs on up to the frogs, and now with the reminder, I realize I still do). Happy you're doing this work!
Thank you for sharing our video Agy and also glad to hear it reminded you of your youth. It sounds like a nice childhood spent in nature! - Cheers, Duarte
I think this is my favorite project of yours! Ever since I was a tiny little kid, I've always adored and thrived in these kinds of ecosystems and environments, especially doing exactly what you guys did, and (Siggi, was it?) digging out a channel. Don't know why, but I cannot express how much I love, enjoy and desire to make my own river channels, flood ponds, wetlands, etc off of pre-existing waterbodies. Its like a overwhelming maternal instinct. I just have to do it!
Siggi and the team he belongs to at BROZ bought the land and dug the channel. We just funded the work and help them with one or 2 things. They are absolute legends :) - Cheers, Duarte
If you continue doing this and/or other sites, i would recommend you do a time lapse video showing people how your work changes the landscape over say 10 or 20 years. Good luck!
I live in the middle of a wetland biosphere reserve area, part of a Unesco project. They work so hard to restore old ecological benifitial areas for both wildlife and people. This here shows me some of that process, and I know that it will be absolutely beautiful in a few years. From one Watar kingdom to another, stay hydrated 🥳
I think this is my favorite project of this channel. It made me think about the ecological history of my home (i live at the Danube) and this continent and turned me into a supporter. Keep up the great work!
This is so beautiful. I loved hearing all the birds and frogs. Seeing so many hatched tadpoles was incredible. It makes me feel better, knowing that people like you are making a real difference.
That tadpole shot was great! I wish I could have been there with my underwater setup to film it properly. Siggi got that shot by sticking his phone in the water haha - Cheers, Duarte

I would love an hour long ambience of the flooded forest. I don't live anywhere near there, and a plane ticket would be so wildly expensive, but hearing that was absolutely amazing. I would love more. The frogs, the birds, the rain. Heck, even the barking deer! A normal ambience video would never get the beauty of the places you guys get to, so an ambience video from you would be amazing. 🙏🥺❤️❤️❤️
The sound quality of all the recordings and hearing all the birds and frogs is insane! I had a random thought, I know a lot of people (myself included) go to nature sound videos for relaxation and concentration when working or studying - I wonder if you could take some of those recordings you already have and upload them (maybe on a separate channel?) with a picture talking about Mossy Earth and introduce it to more people that way?
Great work! The reason I donate to Mossy Earth is because you do great work but you also educate people about that work and why it matters. You trust your audience and understand that we all want to learn. Keep up the amazing work. I name drop your guys every chance I get.
Doing the lords work. I subbed. As a fisherman and wildlife enthusiast I hope to see more of this and perhaps change careers to this kind of work. When my next pay comes I will try to remember to donate as well. Bless you all keep it up!!!
Absolutely amazing. Thank you to everyone who is engaged in this effort. A type of suggestion: if you plant fruit trees, it will be amazing since the fruit trees will attract birds.
Great work guys👏🏾 I also think it'll be cooler if you guys started doing groundwater surveys to see how your flooding has impacted the water table of the selected areas , especially during the 'dry' parts of the Year. Again, great work guys 👏🏾
These are the kind of people I admire the most. Those who dedicate their time and effort to quietly do something that really helps the planet. Not many people know what they do to give recognition and praise, some even call them "crazy" for "doing nonsense". But they still commit to their goal and make a real difference.
Your mics are so good, you could make better relaxation videos than almost anyone on youtube. Your REAL forest sounds, your REAL rain sounds. You should consider creating a branch series thats just a continuous recording of locations in your forest with mics during various weather. It would take next to no effort, and youd hit an enormous market of what seems like pretty nice people who would be interested in your content.
My compliments to whomever edited this video. Obviously it's the content that matters but it really helps that the whole thing is put together so well. The part from 3:46 to 3:58 is absolutely stunning
This has been one of my most anticipated youtube videos this year! Really excited to HEAR how LOUD that wetland was in the spring, that's a good sign! Are y'all planning to do any e-DNA analyses of this area as well?
This is a very specific intervention but there are many riparian areas that should flood sometimes and currently don't. So plenty of work to be done on this issue. - Cheers, Duarte
I’m really impressed by the project consider how they have to account for every species in the ecosystem so they can all thrive. Keep up the hard work. You guys are actual heros
The first "Forest Flooding" video was my introduction to Mossy Earth and I've been following ever since. It's great to see the progress of the projects. Never knew how much allowing streams and rivers to bend and wind along their natural path made such a huge difference; especially compared to the steep-walled straight channeling so many have been forced into. I'd love to see you guys do urban projects and to help mitigate heating in cities; the hest island effect here in the US is insane in many of our cities. Also, I know it would probably never happen, but I'd love to see you guys come and repair parts of my home state of Michigan! We just had our DNR release a report saying people can only eat one fish caught in our rivers per year (!) because the pollution up the food chain is so bad! Too bad the pollution didn't make it's way up to the top of the food chain, namely the politicians and the heads of major local corporations who are responsible for the poor state of our rivers!
Love this, we need more native wetlands restored! Btw my sister is a wildlife biologist who's worked in the field (with tons of bugs) quite a bit, she uses Sawyer 20% picaridin bug spray and says it works great!
What a wonderful sight! I know just what you mean about watching the water, slowly encroaching - it takes me back to the delight of being a child, watching the sea fill in the moat I'd dug around a sandcastle, or watching the 'diversion' I'd made to a small stream fill up. There is something so magical about it. And Vivaldi was the perfect choice of music (this from someone who prefers video without music!!) Did the frogspawn that was moved survive until the flood came?
Amazing work guys! I’ve never considered charities of any sort. Saw them as temporary patches for deep rooted issues. Now this is something I can get behind! I’ve been a supporter for a couple months now and I’m more than happy with the investment. Keep it up guys!! 🙌🏼
Thank you Agustin! That means a lot to us! We will do our best to make sure that your contribution is as impactful as possible! A lot more to come :) - Cheers, Duarte

The mosquitos were outlining the girl's veins, like a road map. Amazing but gross.
This video actually moved me to tears, I'm so proud to support such a wonderful crew doing excellent projects such as this, at a time when the news always seems bad about climate and ecosystems.
Thank you for the kind words! It means a lot to me and the whole team to hear this :) - Cheers, Duarte
I know also that wetlands are perfect as carbon sinker. I hope these kind of projects will be more and more common around the world
Hopefully people start seeing the benefit of having wetlands around. They are very important! - Cheers, Duarte
Love the updates on these projects, and by the way, Adriana is an absolute warrior! That's an insane amount of mosquitos!
😂 Exactly!
The masochist in me wants to see an after pic of that arm. Good lord.
(jk)
I think we were overly disappointed that he had no secret method to share.
Well done you for your, I assume, genetic superiority.
wish more of these projects would be done all over europe and the world.
Hopefully rewilding picks up some momentum! - Cheers, Duarte
Maybe they do good elsewhere but they are brutal here😅
It has begun❤ People are awakening.
@@thedraft115We have to learn to coexist ❤ Requires thought.
China going great with their desert and company who took tons of plastics trash in the pacific ocean too ❤
Thank you for everything you do and for basically substituting what government shall do. Grateful local.
We have this in Brazil. It’s called “Pantanal”. It’s the world's largest tropical wetland area, and the world's largest flooded forest.
Depending on the time of the year, it gets dry and then ready to be flooded again. It’s really rare and interesting!
I know, because it's a natural wonder in Civilization 6, lol.
Lol, i was going to say the same thing
Good for Brazil. Well done. But still you are allowing illegal cutting and burning in the Amazon on a huge scale and fucking up The worldwide climate as a result, not to mention killing hundreds of species.
Unfortunately will disappear cause Brazilians think soy crops have more value.

As a Permaculture Designer and Agroecologist I love to see your work and the fruits of your labour! Well done everyone! I learn so much from your videos and you keep inspiring me to follow the vision of regenerating and rewilding large landscapes. Thank you ,thank you, thank you ❤
What do you do as an agroecologist?
THAT TADPOLE EXPLOSION 😍!! Absolutely love Mossy Earth's dedication to science-backed conservation ❤🔥 Sending love from Hong Kong!!
I don't have a lot of money but these videos, the work you are doing, and the transparency of where the money goes makes this membership one of the most valuable things to me that I've ever subscribed too. Thank you so much for all your hard work, looking forward to watching this community grow.
Couldn't have said it better myself!
Consider rewatching the videos a month after release and liking All of the comments that you approve of in order to keep the video relevant in the algorithms. 😁 We can all help that way to send TH-cam revenue to the channel. 😊
I am curious what Slovak megalomania are you thinking of
In this case, a hydropower system has been built on a plain, where several dams are needed to raise the water level.
Thank you for the work you do for our planet and those beings that can't protect themselves and thank you for sharing this journey with us!
dont be shy . we love hearing from you as we do anyone else . so thank you for your feedback . if we all just talked to one person the world might change for the better , we cant re-educate the educatted but we might help them all to think a little difftrntly with time .
I really enjoy the update videos, it is good to know you stick with these projects for the long run.
We do! A lot more updates to come as different projects develop! - Cheers, Duarte
Watching this fills my heart and makes me wanna cry. I'm so happy to be part of this work even if just indirectly, as a monthly contributor.
Great work, guys!
Shout out to Adriana for filming at all with all of those mosquitos around her. Great project!
Exactly! She told me she had to hide those arms for a few weeks 😅 - Cheers, Duarte
Seriously! Wow, I'd have lost my mind no joke. She has nerves of steal. 💪💪
This has to be one of my favorite projects so far! It's amazing to see how much life can be supported by flooding the forest.
The amphibian spawn at 6:47 seems to be a bit too wide for Bufotes viridis or Bufo bufo, it's probably from Pelobates fuscus instead.
Thank you for the tip! - Cheers, Duarte
By far my favourite project! The lost wetlands are so cool, reminds me of my childhood at my grandma’s.
Glad to hear you like it! - Cheers, Duarte
Thanks
This was the project that got me hooked on Mossy Earth in the first place. Just fantastic!
Glad you enjoyed the update then! Thank you for supporting our work :) - Cheers, Duarte
Loved to see the impact that my little help can have in the hands of passionate and prepared people!
Are you planning on releasing a follow up video on the Desertas islands any time soon? It was the first one I saw and I'd love to see that the reproduction and even reintroduction are going well
It is in the works! However, the filming process has been a bit snail pace... 🐌😂 Hopefully something this year still! - Cheers, Duarte
Everyone that helps the flora and fauna of our beautiful planet have all my respects, amazing project guys, keep doing this 💚
The footage of the mosquitoes on her arm is literally one of my worst nightmares!!!
I thank you, Miss, for taking one for the team! 😉💜
Always a pleasant surprise to dee a new video from you!!
Thank you enjoy this one! It was a tonne of work :) - Cheers, Duarte
Oh sure, you flood a forest and receive praise. When I flooded my basement, my wife wouldn't talk to me for a month!

Projects like this are what we need. Never underestimate how one person at a time can change the world.
World needs more people like you. This is inspirational.
I think this is my favorite project of this channel. It made me think about the ecological history of my home (i live at the Danube) and this continent and turned me into a supporter. Keep up the great work!
That is amazing to hear and thank you for the support! It is truly what makes it all work :) - Cheers, Duarte
The amount of joy that she exhudes observing a flourishing biom is beautiful to watch.
I wish there were people like you doing work in INDIA as well to restore forests and biodiversity, here we really need it .
You're doing great work , keep it up.
Have you heard of the Paani foundations water cup? Andrew Mollison is starting to cover it more and its been so so eye opening and inspirational
@@ForagersGarden indeed , paani foundation is fascinating . But the work these people are doing is totally on another level . We Indians are too focused on what we need for the moment, we often overlook what damages might come on the long run . If we don't save the ecosystem nothing is gonna stay for our future generations to come.
This is a whole movie.. I'm so glad I watched this, because it gave me a whole new look on ecosystems, and the work people do to not only preserve them, but CREATE them. Much love man, and I can't wait to watch more!

@@MossyEarth In a previous video I asked you "What is the meaning of "nep"? Even the [CC] said nep, nap, nop, etc.. It took a different channel to show the HUGE sign that said "Knoepp", the family name in the UK who rewilded their estate. Please, always explain where you are. Spell it if needed. Thank you for your work!
Crazy how good story telling does a massive impact! I am aware of many project supporting biodiversity but this groups youtube channel really puts it out to the world and make you feel excited, concerned and involved. Hats off.
One of the flooding videos of this area from last year is how I found you guys. I love your videos and can't wait to watch more.

I'm super proud of you guys and a bit jealous as id love to be involved in such a inspirational project. Big thanks for your work from the UK 🙏

I can't wait! Thank you!
Good idea.
Amazing work love how u are restoring as a new follower I love this

I have had a really rough week. Seeing this update made me inspired and smile again. Thanks for all your hard work for our planet :)
Absolutely amazing. Thank you to everyone who is engaged in this effort. A type of suggestion: if you plant fruit trees, it will be amazing since the fruit trees will attract birds.
I wonder how much simple and humble you guys are, the world needs more people like you,
You guys are true environment activists! Amazing work!
Great work guys👏🏾 I also think it'll be cooler if you guys started doing groundwater surveys to see how your flooding has impacted the water table of the selected areas , especially during the 'dry' parts of the Year.
Again,great work guys 👏🏾
This project first brought me to this channel and it's still my favourite!! Absolutely awesome
We should probably try to find a few other projects like this given that so many people love it! Thank you for the nice comment :) - Cheers, Duarte
Whoever, not whomever.
Absolutely. Editing makes or breaks something, and usually does not get the appreciation it deserves.
This has been one of my most anticipated youtube videos this year! Really excited to HEAR how LOUD that wetland was in the spring, that's a good sign! Are y'all planning to do any e-DNA analyses of this area as well?
Good idea! Next year eDNA! - Cheers, Duarte
The sound design in this video is amazing - definitely worth headphones for some nature ASMR
Can you flood an abandoned city next to see how much more insane it can get? Ideas include dam-related breaches. It'll be really amazing.
Aeiou ❤
Absolutely brilliant, hope this works in the long term and can be spread to other areas
This is a very specific intervention but there are many riparian areas that should flood sometimes and currently don't. So plenty of work to be done on this issue. - Cheers, Duarte

Too bad the pollution didn't make it's way up to the top of the food chain, namely the politicians and the heads of major local corporations who are responsible for the poor state of our rivers!
such an amazing effort for our planet. even if it seems small scale, every step is major for our ecosystems.
Love this, we need more native wetlands restored! Btw my sister is a wildlife biologist who's worked in the field (with tons of bugs) quite a bit, she uses Sawyer 20% picaridin bug spray and says it works great!
You can also purchase bug nets that go under your hat.
This channel and its efforts are way too underrated, the imapct they have made in a year is more than all the climate protests combined. Keep it up 💯
What a wonderful sight! I know just what you mean about watching the water, slowly encroaching - it takes me back to the delight of being a child, watching the sea fill in the moat I'd dug around a sandcastle, or watching the 'diversion' I'd made to a small stream fill up. There is something so magical about it. And Vivaldi was the perfect choice of music (this from someone who prefers video without music!!)
Did the frogspawn that was moved survive until the flood came?
Amazing stuff ! I love your work ! Keep it up :D
