  • Maxson Goh Films a Complete Showcase of the Scania L113CRL ELBO. All 15 units of this bus have already been deregistered and retired. The bus is extremely unstable and in my opinion rather dangerous. But it gets the job of getting commuters around done. I have only been on board this model of bus a total of 2 times, both are documented in this video.
While most of the Scania L113CRL purchased by then-TIBS received the Alexander Strider body (under air-conditioned operations), a small number of 15 units were bodied by the Greek Hellenic Vehicle Industry, or ELBO/ΕΛΒΟ/ELVO. Introduced in 1996, they were originally non-conditioned and were considered to be the first step-free entrance and low-floor buses in Singapore. They were also to be the last non-conditioned buses to be purchased by a public transport operator in Singapore. These buses were powered by the Scania DSC11 engine (11,967cc) and fitted with 4-speed ZF 4HP 500 automatic transmission.
As part of the drive to make its entire fleet air-conditioned, these buses underwent conversion and its fan ducts became the air-con ducts by the turn of the century. Overhead air-conditioning units from Hispacold were installed. However, the desired outcome did not went as well as it was planned, it contributed to the higher deprecation of the bus. Subsequently, a few of them had to be laid up, and there is talk that these buses face the prospect of early retirement as early as 2009.
However, most others have since remained in operation and in 2010 the remaining fleet of ELBOs underwent refurbishment. The distinctive sliding windows were removed, original Arianne Fainsa seats replaced with the standard Vogelsitze and the interior panels repainted. The original flip-dot EDS supplied by Mobitec was retained. These buses were usually seen running on suburban services, outside the city area.

I took this bus once in 2008. It was the free Ikea, Courts and Giant shuttle and I took it near the Tampines MRT station. It probably must be really rare to see this in Tampines.

they are known to vibrate very vigorously and are really one kind in the form of a massager during your ride, hence his thinking of being unstable. dangerous probably due to the lack of ventilation. the air-conditioning is already worse than a fan before its refurbishment where it still had sliding windows, it's probably a sauna before it retired from revenue service with one piece glass windows.

One strange thing, I remember seeing this bus driving by near the school I used to go to in Singapore, St. Hilda's Primary in Tampines. It's strange because there are no SMRT services near my school at all, and also the ELBO is hardly ever seen in Tampines. I think it was on a Chartered service though.

I took the Strider L113CRLs tho, I don't really remember much having experienced these SMRT Scanias.
