Coach Hammond has taken a shine to her like a mama bear. Every other team draws a circle around their games versus the Aces on the calendar. That is the price you pay when you are the defending champion. I am a long time New England Patriots fan and when Brady was there it was the same thing. Even the lowliest team in the NFL played them like it was for the championship. Aces will be fine and will be in the mix at the end of the season. First year watching the W and I really enjoy this team.

Boy the Aces got a gem in Kate Martin! Kudos to the staff for spotting that talent. She is so much fun to watch - natural athete who gives 150%, she's so thankful for making the team, & such a great personality.
It's tough seeing this team lose, but A'ja played amazingly as ALWAYS!! Kate played very well for her first career start. Tough to get a win when AC is having an off night, no Jackie Young, KP went missing after the half, and Kiah Stokes has just been a non-contributor offensively. Really hope this lull that Kiah is in ends soon - because she is bailing out any defense as it literally becomes a 4 vs 5 on the offensive end.
Kia Stokes lacks energy. She's not aggressive in crashing the boards, and she has terrible hands. Committing a bunch of fouls early on is a costly detriment to the team. She does a good block job from time to time. Also, don't expect Kia to drive in the paint even though she has size. Unfortunately, it appears to be convenient for her to pass the ball despite open looks.
I think the Aces need a 2 way big to help Aja. CP was good until she got hurt last year then the year before Aja had D. Playing with him Aja got a few more one on one opportunities. Now everybody is just double teaming her because Stokes not a threat on offense. Which case Becky to have to go small. It’s just supposed how Stokes been playing this long and doesn’t have any post moves or can drive the ball. At some point she’ll need to get better on the offense. Or they may have to go get another big to play with Aja

NOTE: Writing from the perspective as a 20+ year Basketball Coach who is a Shooting Specialist Coach. There is something about Kate Martin that draws you in for sure. Obviously how she got to the League at Draft Night, her overall story as "The Glue" on the feel-good Iowa Hawkeye team, her all-around game as a 2-way player and her versatility to guard 1-4, her incredibly high IQ, her 100%+ hustle, desire, & grit, and her incredible shooting fundamentals to her shot form, flow, & touch....even now seeing her courageouly shoot her "Luka" fadeaway last night versus the Sparks. But it also seems to be more than that. There is something about her PRESENCE. And I think the Aces Stars and Vets and Coach Hammon find "It" comforting and have embraced "It" quickly. Kate also embodies a lot of Coach Hammond's personal story in how she got into the League utilizing these types of qualities of hard work, intelligence, skill, leadership, and grit to become a household name and now the greatest Women's Coach in the Game. Almost as if Kate would be the perfect "Mom to Daughter Clone" if Coach Hammond would have picked the qualities of her daughter in the Game. Feels very nurturing and symbiotic on both sides. Once again....draws me back to Presence. There's no doubt that Becky's belief in Kate has now solidified her in the Game for the rest of her career and for her eventual post-coaching career. It's amazing how one woman's original belief in her as a WNBA player....when others doubted....was all it took for Kate's Presence to Rise & Shine. I give a lot of props to Coach Hammond. Sometimes in life to get your big break....it takes just one person in an influential position to believe in you to make it happen....which then opens the door for many more believers to come. Let Kate's inspiring story be a reminder to us all when in pursuit of our dreams why it's important to keep going.... Additionally, strategically, she really fits well with A'ja Wilson. Best post entry passer (especially the wrap around bounce pass) in terms of angles to Wilson that I have seen. This is being validated by the Aces Superstar in how active she is trying to get Kate involved in the game....being a willing passer to her and screen and role when needed. So big props to A'ja as the leader of the team developing this relationship on and off the court. 🌟 And obviously she has gained the confidence in Coach Hammond a long time ago....but to see her assigned taking the ball out of bounds typically is a huge sign of reliance for a Coach of someone that understands the full flow of out of bounds sets. The upside of having key players out is that your bench gets game experience, and when starters come back, you have established players that can come in and perform w/out losing leads, maintaining systems, etc. Kate won't start when Chelsea, etc come back, but Coach has to love what she has for the second half. Aces will be right back into the race, don't count them out as a 3-peat.

I am one of the Clark fever army, i been watching aja wilson and Becky every game they play and coach everything they say , i am in awe of aja she is a phenomenon and its a crime she not get the recognition and rewards that her talents command . ( I hope that changes) Becky is best coach in league you can see the way the players talk about her and the way she lets them act and the way she knows when to switch mode with her player's. My hope is once this big sorting and change really starts to take place is that aja name gets the RESPECT and the REAL REWARDS attached to her that she commands just by her game and the person she is . And that the new wave CC got coming in although we do not respect or like others for various reasons and the way they go about there business. I hope as things really get messy for some while during it , as Aja continues to dominate for another 10 years she not only gets the rewards and generational wealth come her way also. Games like these build necessary character. I’m bummed they didn’t win but this loss seems like it ignited what they needed. They’ve had a hard time closing out games but it’s understandable with starters missing. However, the way both A’ja and Kate spoke of each other and especially how Kate spoke of A’ja’s leadership is key. That was real special and all facts! Kate also showed some really good partnership in being guided by her leader! For her first start, she did well. I hope Kate doesn’t let this game get her in the ruts because she did a good job. Build. Build. Build!
If Jackie wasn’t sick we win that game 100%. Hell, if KP doesn’t have a horrible shooting night or we cut down on 2 fouls we win that game. They’ll be fine come playoffs
I’m curious as to why a player (in this instance Kate) has a hot hand, then there is no adjustment to free her up and take advantage in the second half. I get that you have a game plan, and want to follow it… but that game plan needs to be a bit more flexible.

Honestly from watching the game. Too many times do they not swing it to the corner and wing specially Kate. She’s always ready and she’s shown she can shoot it. They need to get that shot over to her. She’s been in high stress situations before. She’s money for a reason. Trust her or make a play for her. And if not make a play make sure the team knows to get that shot over to her than take contested stuff in the paint or the midrange where all the defense eyes are. It’s honestly the biggest thing I’ve noticed from watching the game, they leave the corner open against this team
The amount of times she was open and either KP or Hayes don’t pass to her 😐. 2 of her 3pts were passes from A’ja. Plum and Hayes playing hero ball and driving to the basket, not getting set on offense and looking for A’ja as the first option
Once the team is healthy they will be fine. They are missing once of their biggest piece Chelsea Gray who facilitates and makes great decision making on the floor. In my opinion CG is the 2nd best player on the team and next is Jackie. She is doing a good job in Chelsea's absence. But having our our main playmakers out this game, it's harder but it was a close game. Kate and Tiffany played well and they will be big in the playoffs. I just want to point out that Kelsey Plum needs to do a better job as a facilitator. She's a score first PG and the team offense looks erratic when she's running the point. Her biggest weakness is she has poor decision making ability. In a close game you have to be steady and be smart in calling a play for your team as PG.
they miss cgray and j yo terribly. two guards that can calm the pace of the game down and get back to distributing the ball. kp is a really good player but she can start jacking shots up that aren’t wise

Kate is 2 years older than CC. She was a captain on the Iowa for two years. Of course, an experienced and elite player like Wilson would be a great leader/mentor and probably the best player in the world. I don’t doubt that CC will be called that one day.
There are No expectations from teams like LA,Indiana,Chicago to do very well this year because of many Rookies and young players, but from a team like Las Vegas to be where they are now and the soft and friendly schedule that they have had is puzzling and no other word can describe it better than DISSAPPOINTMENT.

The upside of having key players out is that your bench gets game experience, and when starters come back, you have established players that can come in and perform w/out losing leads, maintaining systems, etc. Kate won't start when Chelsea, etc come back, but Coach has to love what she has for the second half. Aces will be right back into the race, don't count them out as a 3-peat.

I am one of the Clark fever army, i been watching aja wilson and Becky every game they play and coach everything they say , i am in awe of aja she is a phenomenon and its a crime she not get the recognition and rewards that her talents command .

Becky is best coach in league you can see the way the players talk about her and the way she lets them act and the way she knows when to switch mode with her player's.
My hope is once this big sorting and change really starts to take place is that aja name gets the RESPECT and the REAL REWARDS attached to her that she commands just by her game and the person she is .
And that the new wave CC got coming in although we do not respect or like others for various reasons and the way they go about there business.

I’m curious as to why a player (in this instance Kate) has a hot hand, then there is no adjustment to free her up and take advantage in the second half. I get that you have a game plan, and want to follow it… but that game plan needs to be a bit more flexible.

Honestly from watching the game. Too many times do they not swing it to the corner and wing specially Kate. She’s always ready and she’s shown she can shoot it. They need to get that shot over to her. She’s been in high stress situations before. She’s money for a reason. Trust her or make a play for her. And if not make a play make sure the team knows to get that shot over to her than take contested stuff in the paint or the midrange where all the defense eyes are. It’s honestly the biggest thing I’ve noticed from watching the game, they leave the corner open against this team
The amount of times she was open and either KP or Hayes don’t pass to her 😐. 2 of her 3pts were passes from A’ja. Plum and Hayes playing hero ball and driving to the basket, not getting set on offense and looking for A’ja as the first option

Once the team is healthy they will be fine. They are missing once of their biggest piece Chelsea Gray who facilitates and makes great decision making on the floor. In my opinion CG is the 2nd best player on the team and next is Jackie. She is doing a good job in Chelsea's absence. But having our our main playmakers out this game, it's harder but it was a close game. Kate and Tiffany played well and they will be big in the playoffs.
I just want to point out that Kelsey Plum needs to do a better job as a facilitator. She's a score first PG and the team offense looks erratic when she's running the point. Her biggest weakness is she has poor decision making ability. In a close game you have to be steady and be smart in calling a play for your team as PG.
they miss cgray and j yo terribly. two guards that can calm the pace of the game down and get back to distributing the ball. kp is a really good player but she can start jacking shots up that aren’t wise
