Amazing video on a phenomenal character. The thing I love most about Dalinar's arc is that he is his own worst enemy. Unlike Kaladin or even Shallan. Dalinar's psychological wounds are entirely self inflicted. His greatest trauma is not what was done to him, but what he did to others. I think this is a struggle rarely addressed in fiction or at least rarely done this well. Reading through his struggle and accepting responsibility for what he did to become better was very helpful to me. As I was struggling with my own feeling of guilt and shame (granted I was no mass murdering warlord). The scene "You cannot have my pain" will likely always be in my mind when I struggle against myself. For that I owe Brandon a big thank you.
Thank you for putting alot of what I struggled to put into words into this video. Many people I love(d) (past and present) dearly ask me why I love my father who had PTSD induced alcoholism and caused me to have a very rough childhood. I will now use your video to explain why, cause reading dalinar Kholin helped me understand my father's struggles so much! I am so proud of my father cause now he is many years sober and a wonderful human being who turned his drives to productive and humanitarian ends instead of self destructive ones! So if nothing else, know your video helped one human being and I am grateful for it!
I said I'd shut up, but already, at 6:00, allow me to say that this is a beautiful narrative, your best of the few I've seen so far... edit: Dalinar's development is astonishing, and so are the female forces that helped him shape his life, Navani, Evi, Cultivation (but not the Night _watcher_ , who calls Cultivation "Mother", Raven!) and Navani again. She teaches him to be a bit more flexible, which was sorely needed! Also a tip of the hat to Adolin, for confronting his father in the Hall of Maps, telling him how he measures in different values (is that how the expression goes?). Everyone can mock Dalinar and House Kholin, but when Adolin or Renarin try to put their views to Dalinar, they're close to getting punished. Adolin's courage to confront his father was an enormous help, even though neither Dalinar nor Adolin could realize and profit from the full implications. Only Coltaine compares to Dalinar...

TH-cam hid this comment from me for some reason. But I totally agree and have some of my own personal reasons why Dalinar is my number 1 character :)
Great character study! Your channel deserves to blow up in the Cosmere book-tube space.
I'm really glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for the encouragement :)

@Med1c-007 - this is an amazing and courageous comment. Know I reach to clasp your hand in respect.
Dalinar Kholin is many things, but I think above all, he is a good man.
