  • Cladding issues still causing people to live in 'fear' - the conversation comes as the UK’s six largest banks are set to begin lending on properties with cladding that are 11 metres or taller from January, making it easier for homeowners to sell up after years of uncertainty following the Grenfell Tower disaster in 2017.
From January 9 next year, lenders including Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group, Nationwide Building Society, NatWest and Santander will be able to consider mortgage applications, provided there is proof that cladding remediation work will be covered by developers, leaseholder protections or a recognised government scheme.

Grenfell fallout still waiting to be rectified, just a tragedy waiting to happen. The Windrush recommendations are being dropped.
All these problems that still exist and that's what you get when the government talk about cutting needless red tape. This is what the results are.

Is anyone surprised as I was when the RT. Hon. John Prescott MP ordered all tall buildings with cladding to be surveyed following the fire and death of a disabled person. Then suddenly these then the majority of these buildings were no risk to life or property. Then following the Grenfell Tower fire and yet more inspections, these same buildings failed? So, anyone else concerned what people are living in?

You don’t honestly think Parliament care do you.

Hopefully there's never another situation like grenfell ever again. But the possibility is always there whilst the tories continue to do nothing about cladding. They're so unbelievably incompetent on every single issue at this point. Of course, the cost of replacing all combustible cladding around the country is in the tens of billions. They've contributed 1/10th of the estimated total cost of replacing all of it. But the cost is irrelevant when the purpose is directly preventing loss of life.

Man, the Tories sound the same as the Republicans across the pond (I'm American), except maybe slightly less blatant (our republicans just don't care).

Put the civil servants and their families in these fire traps to sleep in at night ? See how soon it gets sorted out

Because this government has decided not to do anything about. Why? Follow the money. Who funds the Conservative Party?

The Tories forced councils to make cuts and building inspectors got the chop..
It was like Towering Inferno. The company supplied the cladding they where contracted to.
The fact it was the wrong cladding is down to builders trying to save money.

Or the management or developers trying to get the cost down if they knowingly down graded the specs......often the builder will follow the specs provided.

People pointing their fingers at the Tories fail to grasp that much of this dangerous cladding was put on by Labour councils under the last Labour government. By law the lowest bidder gets the contract.
