Great video, I was just working on my 5 goals for 2022 when I saw this video, thanks for some ideas and I look forward to seeing you meet your goals in 2022
It is always good to have goals and plans on how to accomplish those goals. My goals for this year are a change of pace for me. I’m trying to get back to what I love about the hobby.
Great video, Matt Woods! I just want to say thank you for your service and I thank your grandfather for his service to our country, as well. My grandfather served in North Africa during World War 2, too. Maybe they even knew each other? I wish that I had the opportunity to talk with him about his service more, but he has gone on to be with the Lord. I'm making my goals for this next year as well. Not all are comic related as I'm going to try to lose weight and get in better shape! Here's to 2022! Have a happy New Year, my brother, and good luck on your goals!
It's funny, I've been thinking of cutting back on collecting comics as well. I have so many in my "read piles" that I'm not getting to. I stopped collecting music CDs a few years ago for the same reason (plus that's when I rediscovered my love of comics). ••• Thank you for your kind shout-out. I hope you enjoy the audio stories when you're driving -- just don't get so into it that you believe you're driving a chariot into battle! 👊
My collect piles have been larger than my read piles for awhile now. Working three jobs has something to do with that. 😂 But at the same time ai wanted to put more effort into my reading. While I do enjoy the hunt for hard to get books it is always a good idea to step back from time to time. I can only hope that I don’t forget that I’m driving a car and not leading a chariot team into battle. 😂
My goal for 2022 is to develop a master bladder, sir. This will allow me to focus on comic book-related material without all of those pesky restroom trips. Thank you for helping provide some direction for the new year, Matty.
Great #goal for #2022 and good #content #mattwoodscomics you are far more humble than you give yourself credit. You do alot to make your corner of the world better. The trickle down is real... Pappy was an #incredible guy he was committed to the #servitude of those around him everyday. We were blessed to have had him as long as we did.
We have to try and remember where we came from. Pride always comes before a fall. That is a lesson that life teaches everybody from time to time. While I don’t believe that I’m being too prideful it is good to take stock and assess ourselves from time to time.
This is a great goal! I appreciate the way you approach life and verbalize it. It's a rarity in the digital age. Be well Matt and family. Happy New year!
Thanks DC Patrol! We have to be true to ourselves and others. Every now and then we have to take accountability of our lives. Living day to day can sometimes lead us down roads that we never intended to travel. I want to take a break from moving books to get other books in the collection. Want to make sure that what I’m doing is something that I’m am enjoying and want to continue in the future. Hope the new year brings joy and happiness to you and your family
Cheers Matt! Our number 1 goal is to meet up with you this year at garage con and have a nice dinner. I totally get the ‘stop and smell the roses’ moments in my life. Loved the heartfelt remembrance of your Grandfather, what a man! My Grandfather was going to be a part of the forces that was to attack Japan if the bombs didn’t work. Hats off to that generation and it’s an honor to carry on with you! Cheers Brother! Matt Woods 🍻!
Great video Matt! Love the big picture question! Something every collector needs to ask himself in my opinion. Hope your New Years is great and thanks for the shout outs!
I agree, we need to step back and look at the big picture from time to time. Life shouldn’t be about what possessions we acquire, but the impact that we have on others.
I'm more of a reader as well. I too have fallen off from reading the books I've gotten the last several months. Not sure why, but I'm going to turn that around. And I've decided that my goal for the next year or two is to collect the Frank Miller run of Daredevil. I have several issues from when I bought them as a kid and I think it would be great to have the entire run. Happy New Year!
Matt, love your content. War related content and comic related content. Not that I liked war, just wanted to understand what was going on at the time my Father was involved in WW2 as he was born in Prague Czechoslovakia at that time..... Glad that you are appearing to feel better too....
That was a truly epic world event that touched everyone in the world at the time. There was no place that was unaffected. Amazing how that generation persevered through that. For many people comic books represent a nostalgic time in their lives. Remembering people in our lives that made a difference isn’t that much different than enjoying comic books from our past. Thanks for noticing, I’m back to 100 percent
Great story and cool video. When you get up in age it seems to me anyway you look back a bit more than someone younger. I have been acquiring books this year much more than last year and have really hit some cool milestones but its just stuff and that is what I have come to realize as well. Don't get me wrong I love my collection. Because it can be a whole lot of fun and I really need to start reading more of them.
I’m with you I love my collection and like you I’ve worked hard to build it. It is so much fun to build. This year is just my way of resetting and getting back to what I enjoy. Putting more of a focus on my reading will make the building more enjoyable when I get back to it.
That's a great question. And one that I've been struggling to answer ever since returning to the hobby nearly two years ago. I know that the motivation is purely nostalgia, as I'm no longer a reader of comics and have never watched the movies, but of late my interest seems to be too focused on materialism. I mean, I love how the Silver Age and Bronze Age comics take me back to a wonderful time, when I was a carefree kid and my parents were both alive and healthy, and I love the magic of my LCS and the enthusiasm of TH-camrs such as yourself, but is this enough to justify the kind of spending necessary these days to collect vintage comics? I don't think so. And yet . . . As you say, it's a good time to set goals. By the way, I thought the bottom item on your list was 1,000 slabs! I have 15, with 57 due back from CGC eventually. And I have 500 raw comics from the 70s (including 50 issues of Conan). My likely goal is either to sell them as a lot and put the proceeds into a few cherished comics, or to just leave them in a box for another couple of decades and move on. The problem is, no matter how hard I try, I can't be twelve years old in the summer of 1976 again. But the effort has brought some much-needed distraction from this often gloomy and dark time. Sorry for the long comment. All the best to you and yours for the holidays!
You hit it on the head! Live is more than just materialism. The hobby should be more than just the collection of old paper. While I enjoy the collecting of old paper it needs to have a deeper purpose. Lol, I have zero desire to own 1000 slabs 😂 that would be a few too many! We can never return to the days of our youth. But it is fun to remember.
Master Bladder. With the yellow ocean, I feel like that NEEDS to stick. Just saying. I agree with you on the goals and forward thinking about your children, maybe it's because we are all about the same age. That said, I still cannot prevent myself from getting all the X-books lol
I haven't really had goals with my collecting. Its been, get what I like to read, and get the art that I like to look at (cover art). You know how large my stack is every week, and I usually get behind on my reading during the warmer months (out riding), but I am pretty caught up on my reading right now. The goals I do have are to finish my Conan the Barbarian Vol 1 run, my Spawn run, and my Miles Morales Spider-Man run. Technically to be a goal they should have a date connected to them, but currently they don't. Like I have said before, too many hobbies, and only one job. I need to sell some stuff. LOL
Your pull list impresses me. So many great titles week in and week out. What also I pressed me is your dedication to riding. The three runs that you are working on are three runs that I am almost caught up on. There are two random Spawn issues that I’m missing, two that I’ll find in the wild some day. I currently work three jobs and have too many hobbies myself, 😂 I think it is time to sell stuff.

Absolutely love your explanation of the difference between a dream and a goal. Very relevant to collecting and life.
Having a plan on how to achieve your dreams is what makes them become true. A dream without a plan is just a wish.
Nice video, Matt! Good luck on your 2022 goals and I look forward to what next year has in store!
Thanks Brad! It is always important to have goals
I appreciate the honesty and great story about! I have set goals to get books I really want in 2022
Having goals is a real key to building a collection.
Great video, Matt Woods! I just want to say thank you for your service and I thank your grandfather for his service to our country, as well. That would be cool if our grandfathers knew each other. You never know the world is a small place. I also thank your grandfather for his service.

A master bladder is the key for watching long movies in the movie theater.

Agree 💯 on goals, gotta have ‘em! Hope you reach yours, Matt!
I’m really looking forward to completing my goals this year.
This is a great goal!

cheers to 2021. Love seeing other peoples goals for the years!
Goals are always fun, my goals for 2021 were books. The goals for 2022 are a bit different.
Cheers Matt! Our number 1 goal is to meet up with you this year at garage con and have a nice dinner. I totally get the ‘stop and smell the roses’ moments in my life. Looking forward to meeting up with you guys this year. GarageCon was awesome this year but I did miss the West Coast Swoldiers.
Great video Matt! Love the big picture question!

Reading is what got me into comics. It makes the hobby worthwhile.
Thanks for the video. Great story about your grandfather! Cheers Matt, Happy New Year to you and your family!
Happy New Year! I want to take this year and get back to what I enjoy most. Reading great stories.

Great video. Enjoy your goal of doubling down.
Reevaluating our goals in life is an important focus to have
Great video. I am doing some self reflection as I am a lot closer to the end game. I need to think some more on the subject before I share.
Looking forward to hearing your wisdom on the issue.
Thoughtful goals, even though you wouldn't let me see the list😉. Your Grandpa sounds like he was a cool dude.
I know better than to let you know what I might be hunting. 😄

Great video buddy and awesome story about your Grandfather. #keepitcasual #fullwatch #growtogether
My goals are going to be a bit different this year than in years past. But I’m looking forward to this year’s goals all of the same!

I almost edited that out and then thought it was too good to not post. Master Bladder with the yellow ocean! 😂😂
@Matt Woods Comics you were right, way too good not to leave in.

That Frank Miller Daredevil run is one of the best in comic book history. Good luck tracking those issues down!
