but somehow it looks great! I think in every decade there were always some more extreme outfits displayed in the catwalk, that you could never see them in the streets. We tend to have a more fixed, beautified and subjective view on the past while we tend to be more judgmental in the present. In men's fashion I believe we are in a way better place today than how we were in the 90s and 2000s.
Can we not do the "modern fashion is weird/bad" take, it's pretty old at this point. Most people unlike in the 1920-60s don't wear off the runway looks any more when they're buying from a brand so they act almost as style inspiration for the ready to wear clothing and gradually themes from these shows trickle down into the mainstream. Personally I love the weird stuff and the weirder the better, but it doesn't mean it's bad
My mom says your 30s, 40s and fifties are so perfect in every way: clothing, gestures and attitudes. She modeled in the 50s for local clothing store on local TV and she says you were just spot on!
Yeah, constantly in a hurry and having a bout of indigestion.... the more recent catwalks I have watched, no one even remotely looks like they are enjoying themselves.
I love how you can tell so much about a time period's vibe/values in every single walk, especially in fashion. I also wonder if the longer poses in the earlier decades were so photographers could get a better shot? Video and faster cameras must have been a game-changer!
Maybe so the walks would take longer and they didn't have as many looks to show! Nowadays fashion shows have just way too much! Like, 30 looks in a collection???? I can't even remember them all!
As someone who did some modelling in the late 00s to early 10s, that era was pretty accurate. Though it's also worth noting that different modelling styles suit different fashion styles and outfits, for instance a more serious walk with little bounce is for high fashion while the bouncy, cheerful walk is more for youthful brands
And the 80s were essentially a rehash of the 1940s (says someone who was in her 20s in the 1980s and dressed in big shoulder jackets and pencil skirts).
One of the hallmarks of the cyberpunk genre is taking "past" elements and juxtaposing it against the "futuristic." Continuing the Blade Runner comparisons, they had Androids built for sex that they programmed on analog/vacuum tube computers. Sean Young's character of Rachel looks like a 40's/50's era model down to the victory rolls & red lipstick, yet she's a replicant for the new age.

I did some modeling in the early 2000’s and can confirm that was how we were taught to walk. I remember being told hips forward, lean your body back, don’t sway your hips, try to look long and lean.
It is actually interesting to think that the catwalk was somehow influenced by the technology of their era. First more restrictive so the cameras could have some time to process the image, and now it is super fast, following its fellow smartphones and more professional cameras.
I also feel that way. Now models are literally speeding forward, very wide steps, showing all the beauty of the garment with cameras turning round them and all the drones up in the air. Really good to show the movement of oversized clothes, how they are draping, flowing and moving in the action
Maybe because egocentric designers decided that all these mimics and charming movements are driving too much attantion from their projects. They just started treating modles like freaking manekins with no character and soul.

I'd definitely watch that lol. And it would be cool if they made commentary on it explaining from which era is it and the most important benchmarks of each outfit that makes it look like it's from that era. It would be both entertaining and educational.
This is the best video I’ve seen so far, the outfits, the walks, the way the camera quality that changes over the years and the attention to detail is just so superb!
It’s crazy that you are the first and (still) only person to have done this study. So many people don’t seem to pay much attention to the evolution occurring before the Supermodel era, and even then they tend to focus on the walk of specific models and miss capturing the general ethos of the catwalk at the time. Fantastic work!
Honestly, your 2010's 'fit looks just like something I would've put together when I was in high school at the beginning of the decade, much to my mother's horror.
Despite the intentions of the video. The content is dead accurate. It's a clean description and evolution of the cat walk. The material here, despite how informal it may be presented, is dead accurate. This is why the channel has an outstanding reputation. Any topic this person addresses, the development and the details are all there exhaustively.
I feel like today, some fashion designer use runway like a form of art. Especially in haute couture. It's more an living art form than "this is what you'll be wearing this year".
80s best look and decade, it has a bit of that old timey elegance but at the same time being extremely fierce, love to see it (also it reminded me of ball culture so that's a plus)
Can we just talk about how many comments are phrased like questions for no reason these days? Like there's a thing I like about this video but I cannot put it into a sentence without a question mark?
This work is just flawless. The outfits, the moves, the editing. The red dress and the gold 30s dress have me salivating, not to mention her killer figure. Sorry to fawn, Karolina, but damn.
My mom modeled in the 80's, and so when I was little she taught me how to "model walk" 😉 So whenever I was playing dress-up (or when I'd get new clothes and she'd make me show my dad, because that was a thing 😂) I'd break out that 80's walk and feel like the most badass 5 year old ever 🤣
@@grittykitty50 I love that! I guess the closest thing we have to that now is when someone likes what we're wearing and we tell them what store it's from and what kind of a bargain we got it for 😂
This video proves several things: 1: you’re an editing and fashion history genius 2: you look amazing in every single era and cut of clothing ever made 3: your wardrobe must be impressive and fun to go through 4: you look amazing in every hairstyle of every era too 5: modeling just got more and more serious over time.
I think that you captured the attitude for each decade beautifully. I watch a lot of old films and never connected the catwalk style with the way women carried themselves on film and in real life. Very well done.
I actually really love this video because you can see some trends make a come back in later decades! Some 1950s trends made a comeback in the 80s, 1930s trends made a comeback in the 90s, and 1960s sorta made a comeback in the 2000s. 2010s was just confused.
I show my age when I see 80s and 90s and say "yes, that is how models walk, what is this other nonsense" and also, this is completely brilliant thank you
So Karolina just casually have at least one outfit from each decade. I see someone kept her ~one~ of their favourites from each decade she lived through.
I love the increasingly less-potatoe-y film quality of the video footage. And the changing music. It's both adding to the authenticity, and somehow at the same time extremely comedic.

Imagine we just had all the historical youtubers do a modeling show for different outfits XD
Yaaas
Can we make this the next big TH-cam trend?!
Yeaaaah! 😀 That'd be cool!
I'd definitely watch that lol. And it would be cool if they made commentary on it explaining from which era is it and the most important benchmarks of each outfit that makes it look like it's from that era. It would be both entertaining and educational.
If Haute LeMode doesn’t pick this up I’m throwing a tantrum.
I know
I don’t know who that is but eeew the grammar 🤢 As a French I’m so irritated 😅
@@sunaleexo lol look him up. He’s an adorable and very well versed fashion commenter. (From the ‘States obviously) ;)
This is a crossover I did not expect lmao
samw
Wow, 70s Karolina is something I didn't know I needed in my life. I'm so gay.
My thoughts exactly
Just FLOW with it :D
I was in no way prepared for that part of the video, Karolina certified baddie🔥🔥
Facts she hit us with the '30s in the first half, and then came in for the kill in the red slip dress.
The kind of versatility I wanna see in people!
Fantastic work!
ok, 1920's is just how I walk everyday.
Sidenote: when should we expect the video about your new modeling contract?
The only time I ever thought "work it, girl" unironically.
Honestly, your 2010's 'fit looks just like something I would've put together when I was in high school at the beginning of the decade, much to my mother's horror.
The clear plastic cape (?) Thing looks soooo cool, I could never (but yeah, I was a literal child at the begining of the 2010's)
1:38 you're looking like king princess, you're so beautiful!!! i think 70s was kinda my favorite because your hair looks AMAZING
those "high fashion" looks from the 2000s and 2010s were so funny to me for some reason 😄
Running out of styles
2000s looked real but 2010s I think she was joking maybe. Or not.
Why is no one talking about how she looks like an actual runway model?!
Idk, guess some more interesting things to discuss here, Kim.
Can we just talk about how many comments are phrased like questions for no reason these days? Like there's a thing I like about this video but I cannot put it into a sentence without a question mark?
That's so necessary, a lot of people don't understand that catwalks change and the models also do
Every time I watch this still think it good - you shine and radiate in the red dress
Managing to pull off every single look effortlessly
Just another reminder that out Meme Mom is really an immortal time traveler
Can we just talk about how she pulled off all these fits but especially the 30s one omg 👌🏼
Imagine being able to pull of every decade so effortlessly. Iconic.
This was incredibly enjoyable. I really like how you've distilled am archetype for each decade. Your designs are on point, too!
This work is just flawless. The outfits, the moves, the editing. The red dress and the gold 30s dress have me salivating, not to mention her killer figure. Sorry to fawn, Karolina, but damn.
So no ones ganna talk about how beautiful the 80s outfit is? No just me?... ok
Not just you !!!
It's amazing!
It’s so pretty aaa i’d wear it myself
I was distracted by the glorious 70s hair.
no but THE HAIR
I forgot the 2010s had ended and wasn't expecting there to be a difference between the 00's and the 10's
Yes, we DID show off our new clothes didn't we? I remember my friends and I parading up and down the street on Easter in our new togs.
@@grittykitty50 I love that! I guess the closest thing we have to that now is when someone likes what we're wearing and we tell them what store it's from and what kind of a bargain we got it for 😂
First thing Hit My Mind when she hit the 🤣 1980's BOY GEORGE style Hat - 🤣Blondie style Outfit, I Loved the 🤣1980's.
You absolutely slayed it, WHY and HOW are you not an actual model!?
SO interesting that not just fashion, but also the way models pose and walk change over the years!
Is no one going to mention how gorgeous she looked?! The 1930's and the 1990's dresses especially left me speechless HOLY
“Confused and neutral face” is my everyday expression 😅
Same 😂
I think that you captured the attitude for each decade beautifully. I watch a lot of old films and never connected the catwalk style with the way women carried themselves on film and in real life. Very well done.
I’m so impressed with how you mimic the walking style, but also your face is so transformative! It’s amazing!
I actually really love this video because you can see some trends make a come back in later decades! Some 1950s trends made a comeback in the 80s, 1930s trends made a comeback in the 90s, and 1960s sorta made a comeback in the 2000s. 2010s was just confused.
I cannot be the only one in love with 1980’s 😭 Like it’s so elegant
I love it so much
I show my age when I see 80s and 90s and say "yes, that is how models walk, what is this other nonsense" and also, this is completely brilliant thank you
The 90s Fashion of yours is the one you got my attention and you're an absolute perfection.
1950's looks like they accidentally stumbled in and have no idea what they're doing
I loved this entire thing! You look so great. The “extra flowy hands” in the 70’s killed me 😂
So Karolina just casually have at least one outfit from each decade. I see someone kept her ~one~ of their favourites from each decade she lived through.
The only person who makes good “100 years of-“ videos ✨✨✨
I love the increasingly less-potatoe-y film quality of the video footage. And the changing music. It's both adding to the authenticity, and somehow at the same time extremely comedic.
