We had this exact fish when I was a kid and I was obsessed. I thought it was the coolest thing, I definitely was not scared of it. we saw it at my aunt's house once and I begged for one. This gives me so much nostalgia, I wanna buy another one lol
Same, wasnt scared had one growing up seeing it on one of my old fav tv shows and it had this on her so I stopped watching tv to search for all kinds of these to buy. They are awesome
I'm so glad to be able to find this on TH-cam, thank you for uploading it. It has certainly brought a smile to my face. I'd like to share a story of my father. My dad is a happy go lucky man and lived by these words, "Don't Worry, Be Happy" in all that has happened in his life. Failed business venture? Don't worry, Be Happy. Got retrenched because of the recession? Don't Worry, Be Happy. He would also use this phrase to make me feel better when I'm too hard on myself. "Jie, its okay. Don't worry, Be Happy. I would humour him by nodding and brush it off in my head. I remember roughly 20 years ago, when I was out shopping with mum, we saw this singing fish in the shop and we just knew we had to get it for dad haha. And true enough, he was overjoyed to own such an novel toy that preached his life song. I remember hearing it singing over and over until it ran out of battery (which sounded terrifying by the way) Not the best thing to hear at 3am when you're home alone. 2 days ago, my dad passed away in his sleep. Peacefully, without a hint of pain for him.. But it was a great shock and a traumatising find that my sister would probably never recover from, being the first to discover that he has taken his last breath in his sleep. As painful it was for us, we are very blessed as a family to receive all the love and support from our extended family and friends. I am writing this all in 3rd person's context as I am in Australia and due to COVID, I was unable to fly back to Singapore for the wake. It pains me that I will not be able to hear his voice, nor see or touch him. If you've read till this point, thank you. And as cliche' as it sounds - Don't wait for the right time to tell your loved ones you appreciate and love them. Because you really never know when they will take their final breath. RIP dad, live it up with Gong Gong. You certainly LFDY.
Sorry for your loss and glad you like the video. I posted it with a link from ebay when I sold this toy years ago. Never took it down and the number of views and comments has been surprising. How you do well and Don't worry. Be happy.
Wow! I pray for peace for you and your family. I'm here because I bought one of these for my brothers birthday when they were popular. Being a fishermen with a great sense of humor, he LOVED it and played it all the time. He passed away 7 years ago at the age of 59 and I miss him still. Whenever I hear this song I think of him because of this sillly little gadget. I like to think he's singing it to me when I hear it. I'm sure your father with his positive attitude is also singing it to you. Love, strength and blessings to you!
Wow very strong nostalgia coming back to me right now. I remember this thing at my grandparents house when i was little and i just started listening to Marley’s albums and his voice sounded so familiar and then i realized
When i was 5 One day i was at my grandpas house and he came out of his room with a 1999 Billy Bass i was shocked to see it so i asked what is that he said it was Billy Bass and it sung Dont Worry Be happy my brother and I said “CAN WE SEE IT” in excitement. I listened to the thing and it was so cool i kept pushing it and pushing it and our mom said we had to go so we asked if we could have it he said yes and i said thankyou we took it home and i had been pushing it all day until one fateful day i got the billy bass and pushed it and it sat there quiet like a mouse i was so sad and i had to say goodbye to billy bass so i put it in my closet and now 2021 im 14 now i was looking through my closet and i saw billy bass i was so excited all of the nostalgia came back i pulled it out and pushed the button and as expected it didnt work i was sad but even though old billy bass doesnt work he will still be a prized possession to me
Omg!!! my dad brought me one these when i was little and i still have it and my sister had the singing catfish one!! Im 21 now, i sure do miss being little. RIH DADDY!!..
My popa (May he rest in peace) use to let me press the button on this thing when I was a little girl. Every time I use to go around to see him and my nan, I'd sit and wait for him at a little bar he had where he kept the fish hung up on a wall. He'd pour me a glass of either ribena or this overly sweet, cheap orange juice. It was something we'd do everytime we saw each other. I miss him so much and I wonder if my nana still has that fish somewhere.
My nan and grandad used to own one of these and everytime i went round there house they had it in the doorway so it was like my kind of ritual that every time i entered the house i would play the song...awhh memories
My grandpa had one of these that I loved as a kid. He used to play me songs on the guitar (hearing about it now I guess he was bad at it but he always sounded amazing to me), make me really good toast (probably just normal toast but still) and he used to bring me fishing every summer. One year I got a 15 inch trout, that was a big boy for us. Biggest trout that's been caught in the family. Sadly enough, he passed away last night. And now this song is stuck in my head. Barry, as kind-hearted as you are, how can you still be singing me this song after you're gone? I'll always love and miss you.
I remember being 6 years old in Spring 2002. We moved to upstate NY from Bronx NYC. My friend that I recently met on the school bus invited me over to her house, which was just up the road from our house and brought me into her bedroom. She showed me this fish. We kept pressing the button and making him sing. I mostly remember him singing, “Don’t worry be happy”. I searched up more about this Fish. He came out in 1999. He was a fairly new toy back in 2002. For the longest time I thought this fish was much older. Now this fish is real old in 2023… The Fish is now 24 Years old. Seeing this video took me back in time to 2002. Took me back to my friends small bedroom with her bunk bed, pink blanket, and plush toys. How we would re-enact stories and have play time with her toys. We’d call it, “The Toy Game”. I remember when we had a slumber party. We’d sleep in the top bunk together. I can’t believe I forgot all of that.
This is GODDAMN PERFECT! I grew up hearing this shit around the pool table at 3 years old with my somewhat distant family drunk ad shit. Good times everybody GOOD TIMES!!!
Nov. 21, 2019: The one above video & mine have the same songs. But, mine is a Bass. Have in my home office on the wall above a fish tank. My friends & neighbors & yes relatives from 4 years of age to 74.... All love him! Guessing in 15+ years..he works perfect each time. Replace batteries maybe 4 times. Bought at Bass Pro Shop! WE LOVE YOU BILLY the Bass !
My grandparents had this fish in their bedroom, and I would always put my fingers behind the fin and it would always clap on my fingers. Great memories.
We used to have this when I was I kid. I loved it and kept making it sing, my mother hated it. Definitively the most english thing my dad has brought us xD
My dads uncle had one of these in the 80s or 90s in his beach house. It doesn't work anymore but we still go to the beach house. (the beach house is old and my grampa put in a new tv)
Back in the day, they had one at red lobster. My dad would take me to Red Lobster for cheddar bay biscuits and apple sauce, and he would make me sing this for people at their tables.
My dad and his ex had one on the wall by the bathroom. Brings back memories, I stayed asking my dad to press it since I was to small to reach it back then lol
I have 3 big mouth billy bass . Boogie bass .2 of the 15 year billy bass .2004 billy bass jr. Travis the trout.jaws the shark.christmas billy bass that sings twas the night before christmas. And a trout called Tommy. These fish are really fun to have around!!!.
ohhh i love this thing so much..... my grandpa has one and im going to ask if i can have it when he passes cause it reminds me of him and it was just my favorite thing ever when i went over.... i completely forgot about the second song..
Anyone who had one of these and played it when the batteries got low knows how what sheer terror sounds like
Lol yeah
Literally just said that hahahaha
Yeah when my batteries ran out it sounded like this:
“Here’s a little song I wrote might want to sing it note for note D̸͜͝0̶̨̋ṋ̶̃̌Ţ̴̏ ̶̟͊Ẅ̷̰0̴̘̄Я̸͚̅R̴̝̾Ÿ̸̺̒ ̵̬̿b̷͘ͅË̴̟̓ ̷̙̓h̴͙͂Æ̵̯͠p̶̦͌Ṕ̵ͅŸ̴̩͗ don’t worry be happy now”

Make sure to buy the 1999 one. The new ones break very easily.
I had the exact one from 1999 since I was born and some one stole it when I was in second grade but now I'm in 9th grade and I still want it back✋🏼😭
@@lifewithjhamiya8325 I'd suggest a thrift store or flea market. They're a gold mine for neat stuff like this. I've found 4 at flea markets
Same, wasnt scared had one growing up seeing it on one of my old fav tv shows and it had this on her so I stopped watching tv to search for all kinds of these to buy. They are awesome

"Don't Worry Be Happy " was in Wall.E
Arthur Snyder Yes!!! So I’m not the only one thinking about that
@@sleepy_cloud2501 No you are not.
However that one was the original recording the one that the official Billy Bass uses is actually sung by a song cover company called the hit crew
Thats the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this. When Eve got startled by it and pointed her laser cannon at it.
Eve nearly destroyed it
God I miss my Grandmother. She had this in her house and I always played with it❤

The childhood nostalgia hurts
My cousins, brother, and I loved this thing...until one cousin decided to drop the electronic fish into the pool. XD
This one is a prototype. You can tell because the tail flaps really fast.
