I'm actually quite content to never have role queue in Rivals. I thought it was a necessity in Overwatch, but that's because of how they balanced the game, blatantly broke certain characters, and ended up with GOATS as a stale meta for... what was it? Nearly half a year before they did anything? Rivals is a chaotic mess, and that's half the fun. Every time someone says a character is overpowered or, alternately, utterly useless, a couple days later someone comes along and shows the inverse to be true. A handful of characters are overtuned, and just as many could use a little buff to pick them up, but in large most characters work under certain circumstances. Their big failing was in not making any of the A-listers Strategists. Captain America, Dr. Strange, and Scarlet Witch all would have been solid choices for the role, and may have drawn some more players in that direction with the right kits. The team balance issue is a skill issue -- social skills, that is. It's unlikely that a group of randos dead set on losing as a Duelist-only team will change their minds, but that's not the target audience. Keep an eye out for good, friendly Vanguard and Strategist players in Quick Play matches, and chat with people. A surprising number main those roles, and just don't want to put up with childish Strategist mains with an ego who lose their cool. Or head over to the Marvel Rivals Discord, where they have a Looking For Group series of channels, broken down by platform and region. It's where people are finding teammates for ranked and tourneys. Even just having a couple buddies to team up with so that you're guaranteed to have a competent player in all three basic roles can be a considerable advantage in ranked.
This is very well put and completely agree. The absolute hot mess dumpster fire is a lot of the fun. I'm happy I tend towards supports roles in games like this so I never have an issue playing the heroes I want to play, I also have friends I play quickplay with (can't play ranked with them at the moment cause I went a little too hard too quick and I can't queue with them anymore) and yes Overwatch it's an absolute necessity due to their balance mentality, but Brigitte broke Overwatch for her first two years after release.
Role queue? Yes? No? Maybe? Let me know!
