  • HOW THE BRAIN READS - WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT READING AND UNDERSTANDING
"Reading is 10% eye, 90% brain intensive activity." - Melik Duyar.
"Is it the brain or the eye that reads?" Most people will answer the question "eye". However, reading is not just the process of transmitting visible letters to the visual center at the back of the brain.
Reading is much more than just this process. The neuroscience of reading and the science of reading shows that the eye is only on the order of 5% to 10% of reading activity, with the remaining 90-95% of the steps taking place entirely inside the brain.
In short, reading is a brain-intensive activity, not an eye-intensive activity. How Does it so? Let's analyze it together in this video film in the light of the science of reading.
Reading in the brain is done in two different ways. The first way is the "phonological way", and the second way is the "visual way". Primary school students use the first way of reading extensively, while students and adults in sixth grade and later use the second way of reading more. For this reason, speed reading education is not given to students up to the sixth grade.
Reading education to be given to primary school students should be in the form of fluent and active reading education aimed at improving the primary reading path. This training should specifically focus on teaching active reading and comprehension. Most primary school reading education does not teach comprehension. Most teachers think that measuring comprehension is teaching comprehension. Many students who cannot learn to understand in primary school encounter problems in LGS and TYT paragraph questions.
In addition, the video content refers to the phenomenon of "neuroplasticity" in the brain and briefly touches on critical periods related to reading. You will find a narrative flow that you will not find anywhere else in the video. For example, you will have a very simple grasp of what interaction in the brain is the result of the "inner reading", which most people find it difficult to understand exactly what and why. You will discover what the visual reading pathway is in the brain. You will learn what teaching understanding should cover.
    Have fun watching...
Note: This video film has been prepared by the "Mega Active Reading" education program, which teaches primary school students to read fluently and to understand, under the guidance of an instructor and an online platform, according to the science of reading.
