Hi Guy I'm new to your videos you are for sure a "Hair Artist". I notice one of your music videos was in my timeline. I like your hair videos but I'm drawn to the imagery in your music videos. Especially "Tell Me It's Over" you and your team kill it. As a fellow tv and movie crew member the small details in your videos shows that you take it seriously. Great work!!!!!
Jaquosh maybe for you it’s not & that’s what I thought when I was younger as well. I’m now 38 & don’t feel any older than 25. Most ppl my age are out of shape & overweight though & that ages someone immensely. Just depends on how you take care of yourself. You’re only as old as you feel ☺️
Maybe you don’t know what 38 look a like. I’m saying this because I’m 39 and people always guess I’m 27. Maybe people are brainwashed into thinking almost forty is old. Most people in my age group that I know don’t look much different then they did ten years ago or more. I’m not saying he doesn’t look good, just open your mind that lots of people might be that old and you don’t know.
Also.....Bob Ross always quoted: “You always need to see the dark, in order to see the light”. He would reference this to not just a way to colors, but to a way of life! You must always see some sort of darkness in your life, in order to be able to see the light you have and cherish it . :’) ❤️
My world has changed ever since you have come into my life!! From your haircolor and videos, to your music and inspiration!! I use nothing but Mydentity and olaplex in my studio and haven't been happier with my results!! Thank u!!
Omg my youngest of 6 has called herself Shadow since she was 7 now 18 she had learning disabilities and had a rough go of childhood. When you said that shadows exist because of light, my heart about burst! I text her those words. Thank you! I love your soul!!!
I hate doing my own hair but I love doing everyone else’s but I think most stylist think that way. And when will you make a color remover because your semi colors are so long lasting they will not come out lol which is great but when someone wants a change it’s hard to get them out safely. Your product line is my superpower
So true. I know exactly what I want to do to my hair but it’s so physically challenging to do it myself. I wish I could clone myself for this purpose! Hah.
I think guy tang you are one of the most talented stylist i have ever seen .I have been in the industry for 38 years n have had training from some of the top names in the industry n you have taught me more about color than anyone i have encountered!! Thank you so much! i love your your color line its amazing!! I dont know you personally but i think your an amazing human being as well!
I know that’s right. When I was 15 I taught myself how to bleach, tone, color, lowlight, highlight, cut etc bc salons kept f’ing mine up. I still do my hair to this day & I’m 38. I do all my friends & my mom’s hair too. And I’m still not licensed but every single persons hair I do they say it’s the best they’ve ever had done. It’s worth it to teach yourself if you are at all interested!
Leely Moonstar yaaaas! Get it! Love a good money piece 😍 ikr I stopped doing crazy colors on my hair too, they just don’t look right on me. Some ppl can pull them off but I don’t feel like I can anymore at 38 hahaha 😂
Been using your product line on my clients and myself since you first started your line. Being Hawaiian Asian I turn orange in a hot minute when lifting my hair and your Wicked line is amazing love your shadow ash line. So thank you very much for dedication to our industry.💜🙌
The length of your hair is gorgeous, Guy! I swim a bit- always in the pool or at the beach in Australia for about 7 months of the year.. admittedly, I look kinda silly when I do. I put a conditioner or long treatment mixed with a conditioner whilst I do- covering with cling film, then my hat and a silk scarf. Helps my curls stay curly, I don't dry out as much and don't get brassy often, either. It's a bit of work, having to rinse it out but we have a lot of showers at the beaches, I just rinse out before I leave, scrunch it and leave the window open on the way home...it's half way dry in a half hour trip. Do it once a week when I take the kids swimming on weekends.... Socially Distanced hugs, from Downunder xxx
I use this exact formula for my hair color, but the only thing I do different is I add equal parts of 6ss demi and wicked shadow 7 demi for my midshaft and I find it gives me a beautiful neutral and almost smokey tone to my hair. Even with all the cool tones in the formula, my brown never truly comes out ashy just because darker hair (mine is a level 2) pulls so warm when lifting, it's hard to completely mask those warm tones. However, I do love this Iine of hair color because I find the dye load is strong enough to definitely neutralize warm tones and give a very balanced, neutral toned brown.
Guy- Watching your video and getting to know “ you”, made me feel both sad and happy. Understanding that everyone can go through difficult times. Watching you before this episode, I would’ve never thought you had gone through what you kindly shared. Listening to how you overcame those stereotypes and learning to value who you truly were, was inspiring to me. Sadly, many people are judged all too quickly, without ever been given a chance to shine! Thank you Guy for showing your true self to me, to us, you are a beautiful soul- keep Shinning!
Playing this video on loop, listening, while mixing cheerfully my Shadows paint - love them!! Thank you so much, will stick to them and experiment like for ever 🥰💖💖💖
Clicked because I was interested in your hair and the color correction. Stayed because of the explanation behind your brand naming and the life affirming words.
I've been watching your videos for a few weeks now. I'm currently a cosmetology student and your videos have given me a LOT of guidance with color. The great thing is we have a Cosmo Prof store two store fronts down from our school. So due to my love for fashion colors I purchased your super power red. (Sorry I couldn't remember the actual name of the color.) But I just got a fresh cut today. Hoping to get bleached tomorrow and put the red in. So excited!!! On a side note, ironically I just drunk a cup of bobba tea a couple of hours before watching this video. 😆 Anyways, you rock! Keep doing what you do. Thank you for all that you do!!!
I used to watch your videos years ago, and It feels so good to find you again! This is great, your voice is so calming and you seem so real I can almost feel your pain. 🌹
I m happy for u boy .u expect ur self who really u r . That is the most wonderful thing u can do yo make ur life happy and peaceful person ❤❤❤ . Keep on doing what makes u happy
I just balayage a green-ash dye with high developer to achieve browns all-over highlights. I tone with blue-color depositing shampoo. I retouch the face frame every 3 months and the rest of the highlights every half of the year. I like the balayaged highlights because I get no line of demarcation and the overall look is multidimensional with very low maintenance.
I am *so* obsessed with this colour Guy. I was going to balayage my hair but now I've seen this my mind has been changed 🤣 all of your videos inspire me and I love hearing about your life story ❤️ keep doing you
I was blessed many moons ago by some supportive, healthy mentors of which one told me, "When you can tell your story without breaking down that's when you know you have healed."
11:58 me when i dyed my hair myself for the first time a year ago after always letting my mom dyeing it for a year long. Litteraly when i am bored i just dye my hair, i just like dyeing it. My mom always said that she didn’t want me to go black cuz it was gonna make my face look pale. My mom died over a year ago so in March of last year before the pandemic i got my hair dyed black by a hairdresser and i proved her wrong.
8:30 in the morning drinking coffee having a little guy tang education doesn’t get much better than that! Been in the industry for 15 years and I love the fact that I learn every day!!!
You look gorgeous! And your quality, color/hair brilliance is out of this world! You deserve SO much happiness and peace-you've been through terrible situations and struggled but you've come out on the other side as a positive person that is such a fantastic role model! Thank you for sharing the real, raw you. I wish I lived in your city not just to have my hair done right & gorgeous, but to meet such an amazing person and be hair bestie friends. Ohhh! Your music is fabulous! It touches me. Keep it up! 😙❤❤❤🥂
I love watching his videos. He’s such an amazing teacher and a life coach at the same time. I wish i wasn’t intimidated by his products. They seem so complicated. 😔
I just love you!! First you have an impressive grasp on the hair structure and chemistry, which only leads to you sharing the perfect information for chemically coloring or treating hair. And then, combine that with an absolutely adorable and honest personality equals love, love, love, love from me.
Wow Guy Thug ur my angel, you are a true artist in hair and singing, ur an inspiration l hope you will go far in life , you deserve the best, and don’t let anyone put you down.
Another great video, thanks Guy. You speak about humanness and self care and your video does exactly that, you're just like us colouring your hair. Except bam, you look so good while you do it! Not fair! Fantastic result, subtle but defo an upgrade on the "before". Love your work
Ok so I’ve never colored my hair and I was born with brassy hair until I was 3 it turned dark, like almost off black. So I bleached some of it like half way down to the ends, and bleaching it on the recommended time on the instructions (30 minutes) it lightened up to the color I was born with! Originally I wanted to color it periwinkle but ever since I bleached it I got obsessed, so now… here’s my question Guy! My hair is brassy, like right in between not super blonde not super red. So my question is… how do I lighten it up enough to color it periwinkle purple? I tried the kool-aide thing toning it out with blue kool-aide and I even tried blue food coloring to get rid of the brassy color. It’s not working and idk which blue romper to use in order to cancel out all the yellows and reds and light brown colors with the bleached parts!!!
Just heard “hold on” for the first time and cried. ❤️ as a nurse i have struggled in ways I never imagined this year and have done things I never thought I would have to do. I needed an new anthem tonight as i suit up for war
My guy! I'm super in the same struggle bus with my hair most the time. My natural isn't very dark but it's super ashy and my color always shows brassy tones. I've been trying for so long to just simply match my roots so i can rock my natural color for a while.
Admired your talents and your ability fixings hairs problems...aunty called you doctor hairs ....you make Vietnamese community proud of you...regardless what...being honest and truthful who you are is important you're happy....love you r😍 talents and personality wish you the best
Ah love those one on one videos with you. I always love your personal stories and earlier struggles and how all that made you the amazing person you are today..
This guy is so passionate and knowledgeable on all things hair - I need a clone of him to fix my hair woes. I feel like I want to take all his know-how in so I never again revert to an amoeba and just pour on a whole box dye like it's water and I'm on fire. Ps. Not sure about "Asians being supposedly least desired" - I'm a girl who has always been a sucker for Asian men so i'unno.
I love watching your videos! You are a very positive person and I love that about you. Listening to your kind words, makes me feel so much better. Thank you!!❤️❤️
I still can see red on it. By the way, I bought your 8SS tube expecting a result of ashy silvery on hair with 70%gray. Because of natural hair growth, the client wanted to embrace a natural silverish kind of look which left me with the middle part to be bleached and toned for the best color match. After cleansing the hair with a pre-lightener I was left with a pale yellow undertone mixed with some warm light yellow parts and I was hoping the toner would at least give me a more equal result, but it did not happen this way. I ended up with a kind of strawberry blond and the client hated it. So I decided to tone the hair down with Wella Color Charm T18 which gave me a cool result (still not what I wanted. I wanted Gray Ash) as opposed to Mydentity 8SS. Please, if possible, advise what I have missed to achieve a grey natural result. Thanks.
I'm new here. I found your channel browsing hair color ideas and I gotta say it's nice watching the videos and getting half way through. I get that struggle of culture and identity. It was a rough road for me too in some ways. I've always found a bit of my identity in my appearance. Ironically enough I started feeling like my identity was a bit more complete than I thought it already was once finished letting my hair grow out last year and dyed the top portion of my hair a deep auburn orange mixing an auburn red for the undertones and a blonde (sides fade up and shaved down and please don't kill me if I committed a hair dye sin somewhere in that). Everyone thought it suited "me" well how I started wearing my hair. Anyway, I say all that so you get where I'm coming from when I say the video struck a cord, but it's one I didn't know I needed someone to relate on till now. So, anyway, thanks a lot
You go, sharing your coming-out story to help others, especially the Viet community! It reminded me of the support I had to give to a Viet student trying to come out in college, and the reason he was closeted was his traditional parents! I live to help break stereotypes of all people of color. I love how authentic you are and your artistic hair talent! Follow your dream; why can't you be both a hair and music artist? I try and support my fellow Viet businesses when it comes to doing my hair. Every single one of them always dyes my hair with a weird red hue. I don't want to be a redhead when I'm outside in the sunlight! I've given up, and during the pandemic, dyed my own hair natural black. Any suggestion I can give the stylist to make me ash "mushroom" because they don't use your products! BTW, I love the name ...it so true we all have multiple identities!
Hi” how are you? I’m always watching your video in TH-cam 😊 it’s very interesting 🤔 you very professional and gifted hairdresser . I’m so impressed lots of hair color and techniques . That you doing 😊 your models, your products that you use. .... I’m very impressed about your job. Watching here in the Philippines. Guy tang good luck god blessed you always.👍👍👍..
So the shadow ash color alone doesn’t control the red? You have to use the torquoise booster also? Can you use the torquoise booster to any beunette color to control the red then?
@guytang ive got naturally warm hair - level 5/6 roots 4.5, natural highlights that can lift to 7 and level 9 if bleached from sun. I hate it. Turns so braasy and yellow. Ive had the same stylist for 20 years - no more, she is taking a break for awhile after having her 2nd baby. But she started ONLY using your products on my hair to give me my perfect dark level 4 ash with neutral level 5/5.5 highlights, also bringing level 4 down, then highlight up to level 8 for silver highlights. Im in heaven. But now i can't get the products i need to do it at home myself. It makes me so sad 😞
Also opened this can of worms myself the other day. Used big #9 w/olaplex. Difficult to squeeze out of bottle & almost need like an electric mixer to mix, but a great product. Little bit of a situation, but here we are. After many practice rounds and rehersals and watching endless guy videos, lexi dawn, brad mondo, beach diys, fails.. dos and don'ts. Even as a fellow hair bestie.. Nearly impossible to do unless able to pop my head off and work on it. But I managed. Bleach everywhere. Plus costed more than just to go in. Hopefully after violet cellophane treatment, next purple shampoo wash, and olaplex TX it will be satisfactory. Not the even ideal perfect lift throughout as you achieve. Should have let 30v mid strand process longer before doing roots. Yes 10 vol did lift the roots. Did not use the olaplex with 10v on roots. Should've trusted your expertise and the process. Came in hot. Ugh. Borderline a nightmare. After toning with special blondes kp 12/89. Lets just say not even porosity throughout hair. Greenish navy. Leading to damage controlling that paranormal hairtivity with a bleach wash. Dear. GOD. thank the lord for olaplex. Couldn't justify buying the entire collagen set from Cosmoprof just to use on myself. Would have been a bonus. Not sitting right with my complexion. Almost looks like a wig. heeeeelllp. Good thing it's Halloween now
I’m not a hairstylist at all, just love doing my own hair over anyone else touching it. I wanted to ask a question and I’ll understand if you’d rather not explain or answer seeing as I’m not a hairstylist but for years now I’ve been getting Schwarzkopf 0-22 anti orange to tone down orange/red tones (mainly for when I’m brunette).. for the most part I think I’ve used it correctly as it has done what it says it would (sometimes making me go too dark but the red/orange tones would be gone) but I’d appreciate if you could maybe explain how to use it if I were actually someone who would use it on someone else’s hair (mind you, I’m not.. it’s for my own hair). Lately it doesn’t seem to be doing the job as well as it used to, and maybe I’m actually using it wrong? Idc how stupid I sound, I’m legit curious as I’d like to use the product correctly if for some reason I actually haven’t been. I only recently (in the last 2 months) purchased it again after not having it in 3-4 years. And yes, it was an Amazon purchase and I understand the risk of buying off of Amazon. I feel like now I’m not getting the full (or half) effect from it. I have always loved the ashy/mousy brown color but finally have grown to love golden tones, still not red/orange in brunette tho. I’m rambling, sorry. If you could help, thank you. Or anyone, thank you. I also wanna say I understand the risks of doing my own hair at home, I take those risks anyways and own up to it when it doesn’t turn out great. It’s okay lol life goes on one way or another.
I followed one of your tutorials on a client two days ago and had a major issue with color penetration with your demis. Lightened her roots (have been blonding her for a few months now for her to get to that level 10 with some yellowy cast) she's a natural level 4 as she is mixed and has curly hair. I used your demi line with 6 vol shadowing with 6&9IG. Went in on dry hair first. The blonde toning went PERFECT. the rootage however was sooooo patchy and just...bad. so. I washed her out and went BACCKKKK thru again this time using damp hair. It worked a little better and she loved it but to me it was still not perfect. The only thing I can think is that it needed a filler? But it shouldn't have because after lightening I still had plenty of warmth. Idk if you will see this but if you do. Please comment to help a hair bestie out! Haha Love you!!
You look handsome will the pause time of the lengs... Just missing a nice make up... Lol! Fixing a hair color to oneself, I do it each time that I need to fix my routages, not dark on dark, but very clear blond on dark. Maybe the next time, I should make it lavender with Fushia pink highlights, if I find Fushia pink.

I still can't believe Guy Tang is 38! He looks so much younger
38 is young!
He has invested a lot of effort into his health, fitness, diet, skincare. He's taken top notch care of himself
I'd have guessed he was 35 but he is on track to keep looking mid 30s as he ages.

If I ran into a genie and was given one wish, it would be too get my hair done by you!!!!! ❤❤❤ you are amazing!!
I love the story behind the shadow ash collection
the result is subtle but that’s what makes it GREAT!

You are so fun and very educational at the same time. Thank you for all the product information.
Ah love those one on one videos with you. I always love your personal stories and earlier struggles and how all that made you the amazing person you are today..
I already loved you as an artist but hearing this side has definitely made me love you as a person. Thank you for sharing your talent with us 💙
This guy is so passionate and knowledgeable on all things hair - I need a clone of him to fix my hair woes.
Thanks.
You’re an amazing human being, I’m so happy you got over all your child hurts and you became that great person who has a lot to teach us
Hi Guy Tang
I am Asian also and I have a small salon n my place..
I'm from Philippines
I'm always watching bcause I've learn a lot...
God bless
I love your voice and your videos are awesome 😎 💚💚💚💚💚💚
Pls restock the swatch book!! I need that underlying pigment swatch, it’s the best 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi Guy hope you and your hubby are doing good xoyour hair looks lovely and I love your music I need more hehe
Yes it controls the red on it’s own but the boosters give an extra boost of power and u can use it with anything
I love shadow ash and the WIcked shadows. Game changer.
Excellent, looks great. Your product line is amazing
Love everything you stand for Guy! You’re my hero 💕
"Time to put the hand condom" Lol, you are one of a kind ♥️ And you are so sweet and wise, meeting you is surely a gift.
You are a genius!! Mental health is everything!
You DO teach us to be courageous and empowered! Thank you!
You are amazing Tang Tang!!
I love @guytang, hate the brassy and orange too, love you!! Just got my new bottles of guy tang shampoo!!
Almost looks like a wig. heeeeelllp. Good thing it's Halloween now
Grounding myself from TH-cam
Does any stylist/ salon work with your products in London?
Guy’s hair is always stealing the show. I love these subtle colors 😍
I don't wanna critique your skills. I just feel like I would have gone down a level. But I love you! I just wanted to give honest input! You da best !
Hi guy! Def gotta experiment the shadow collection!
Wow Guy u look amazing ! Cant believe you are 38 !!! .Btw loving the hair . U are a true professional . 👍💇😛
Haha
Love you!!
Hey there! I'm curious if you figured out the solution? I'm assuming you attempted to do a root shadow after toning the blonde, correct?
You look handsome will the pause time of the lengs... Just missing a nice make up... Lol! Fixing a hair color to oneself, I do it each time that I need to fix my routages, not dark on dark, but very clear blond on dark. Maybe the next time, I should make it lavender with Fushia pink highlights, if I find Fushia pink.
Guy can you do a hair line for curly hair?? Like products to use to define curls and keep them well nourished and hydrated, not dry and stiff?
I love ash hair colours. Love you Guy! For some reason this video makes me miss your old videos with graveyard girl- you should do another collab
Your haircolors and hair products are amazing😉
