He is rights about Euronymous! The most influental persona and creator of norwegian bm, genius in few aspects. Hail Euronymous you will be never forgotten.
Most Dudes from Scandinavia are well spoken and respectful. Even the church burners and murder commiters are well spoken. Like Varg Vikernes. Think what you want about him. But he is very intelligent and well spoken. We Americans are the most rude and disrespectful assholes in this world. Personally I try to be like the Nordic in how I communicate
It never ceases to amaze me how eloquent scandinavian musicians are and the ultimate high level of english they speak. I learned english for 8 years in school, i am an academic but dear lord my english is worse than that of a toddler.
I really appreciate when the interviewer doesn't interrupt the guest, regardless of the nature of the interview. People tune in to hear the guest and they should always have ample time to elaborate their points.
This man Satyr is one of the reasons why i love norwegian black metal music, a lot of people said they are overated, sellout and became mainstream.. for me they made a huge step into a world of mainstream trying to bring their career to the next step.. who thought that Black Metal can be associated with arts, back then is all about music, passion and rebellious.. and now everyone can listen to their music (still not everyone) but hey kudos to that..
They didn't sell out. People are idiots. If a successful BM duo like them choose to play more rock oriented metal, they can do so. I have heard the very early stuff from Satyricon and it's heavy but it sounds similar to other bands. Satyricon innovated later and that's fine. And to hell with insecure little Euronymous and his type, judging people's work.
Satyr explained what originally was and meant to be black metal perfectly. It pisses me off when I read comments like "this is TRUE black metal" under some generic norsecore videos.
I have a lot of respect for Satyr. Dark Medieval Times, Nemesis Divina, Rebel Extravaganza are my top favorite, timeless masterpieces. Long live to Satyricon's creative exploration path!
There is nothing I appreciate more than an artist with the balls to do what ever the eff they please. When dimmu and septicflesh went into full symphonic WITH the actual symphony in the actual theater, everyone started screaming "traitors". I thought it was fooken a. let the artist do their shit.

the title is perfect. what is true Norwegian Black Metal? Euronymous. that's really all that needs to be said. *he's very lucky to have spoken &spent time with Euronymous.
What a good sport and well spoken Artist. It's funny how many of his answers are very similar to things I say as well. It's not just music preference, I think similar music taste can denote similar philosophies and ideologies. The life time friends I have made, came to be friends over musical tastes back in my school days.
Satyr may be the most intellectual person that black metal has right now. All his conversations are intelligent, and he always gets to the point without dumbing down his message. He also has a great attitude when he speaks to reporters. July 5, 2024. USA
It wasn't an "amazing interview" Satyr's a very interesting person, he pretty much conducted his own interview. The interviewer...meh. It could've been anybody TBH
Loved hearing his historical journey as a fan & how he’s still exploring flavors that feel warm & tasty. On how his artistic vision changed metal. I’m fortunate to have been born in 68 with a sister 12 years my elder. Inside our family my fathers side were musicians as far back in ancestry as could be remembered. Third generation Norwegian & Swedish decent hearing metal from both areas drew me back to familiar folk tunes I’d heard during childhood around camp fires or during holidays. Thanx for a lil time travel 🤘🤘
re: the humor question. i get that with early swans records. read the lyrics from the "cop" lp. it's hilarious. extremely dark, maybe the darkest music ever, but there's something so funny about it at the same time.
The humour in darkness question is a good one. The fact most black metal bands aren’t ironic is hilarious. Like y’all in bullet belts and armour with swords and flails and face paint and you never once thought, hey this isn’t kinda weird isn’t it 😂 Also a lot of black metal lyricism is very surface level edginess. Ofcourse there’s fantastic BM lyricists out there but a lot of BM Is hilarious. I’m not mocking BM as a whole though. I make and respect BM, it’s just sometimes you gotta step back and not take yourself so seriously. Laugh ffs 😂
Always felt the same about black metal, Aghast's first album was as much black metal as anything you can think of. This chick is so weird but its also kind of cute. Too bad you didn't ask him about the mighty Storm.
He explaines perfectly what BM is, it's not bout tremolo picking and blast beats all over the place, i always said it to these wannabe trve kvlt cringe kids, heck venom, celtic frost, sarcofago or mercyful fate all bands he was inspired, even death ss has black metal magic to it (the old stuff)
Such a great talk and also very interesting, I think some of his words would be argumentative for some, but hell, how do you know better than the man himself?? thanks for the interview!
Sorry to burst yer' metal memories bubble Satyr , but Celtic Frost is pronounced with a hard C as in - KeltiK Frost !! Just sayin' & only mentioned cuz' it's a pet peeve of mine . Otherwise , Great interview thanks !!
I'm sure it's just a language thing as you're Norwejick !?!? Like you said banal & I don't think it rhymes with anal ? Now I'm being really anal about pronunciation myself , so I will stop - as you just mentioned ; Norwegian is your mother tongue and it was a struggle to figure out the lyrics of songs when you were a child ! So good work buddy ! I am Canadian & we have 2 official languages here & I can only speak 1 of them !! SO you are up at least one language on me !
Lars was freaking great in his hey day... He was innovative , good swing, great arranger, unique style. He had a hiatus in the 2000's but since 2019 he found some motivation back.
Hes not really that terrible, people act like he is the worse drummer ever. Yes, Bonham and Frost in their own way are also better, but hes not in Metallica because he's the best drummer they could find.
Man, I was turned on to underground Thrash/Hardcore scene at 15 in '86. By around '90 I heard Sepultura for 1st time & thought, this is the future. Then everything I heard, including new Sepultura ALL SOUNDED THE SAME!!! If y'all enjoy, IS ALL THAT MATTERS, but I couldn't tell you one Thrash ("Death Metal") band from the other for last 32 years! The Us Festivals in the '80's promoting a new product called the personal computer, & the black community pawning their handed down instruments for a different kind of rock, & beating on lunch tables instead (later looping artificial "music") & making fart noises while jiving street slang, really fukd us all up!!! Rap makes Disco look like Mozart! SMGDMFH! 🤘😔❤
That last comment about the old farts not very cool. We made you who you are today and what you are now. Your just interested in selling all you back catalogue to these newer generation of kid's $$$$$.
Euronymous would not go down in history , unless Varg stabbed the fuck out of him....unless you think when Dead died and the idiot took his picture and it ended up on that bootleg....that actually puts Euronymous as an asshole !!!!.....I would say that Varg and Burzum were the biggest influence !!!, of this starting in Black Metal.......
Satyr was there, he knew Euronymous and turned to black metal because of Euronymous, like all major black metal bands, so he knows what he's saying. The whole Norwegian BM was due to Euronymous. And what is an asshole compared to an arsonist, attention whore and murderer? Mayhem was the band that travelled to Europe, created a network and spread the black metal ideology until it became the genre we know today. Varg was just a follower, who copied a lot from '80s black metal bands sound wise and image wise (Quorthon would like a word on that), and burned some churches. Without Euronymous, there would not have been a Norwegian scene.
Tell me you discovered BM by watching LoC the night before writing this comment, without telling me you discovered BM by watching LoC the night before writing this comment.
Wrong about Euronymous not going down in (metal) history as many bands from Emperor to Dissection dedicated albums to him and his influence, with the former even using one of his riffs. Right about Varg/Burzum being arguably the biggest influence on black metal going forward, but you won't hear about that on this channel or really any mainstream entertainment media platform due to them putting politics over art.
