Had to revisit this vid as we did this track just last weekend. Then we made the worst mistake of trying for Jeff Davies Track, what a bitch of a thing! I was passenger for this day and mate did his front diff of Jeff Davies Track, massive recovery reversing down track, one disaster after another, winch rope uncoiled as it was let out too much, mates other vehicle was the anchor and the winch also ran out, sending us back sharply down the track, lucky we didn't roll it tbh. Bit too much excitement for this old girl lol, then being pulled up Bulltown Spur Track on the gnarly sections was not fun at all but at least we could drive in 2WD. Love the high country, it is all full of surprises!

@@aguyandhistroopy Yeah think it's just called Jeffs Spur Track just off the Crooked River after you enter into the water at the end of Bulltown spur track, you have to drive along the river for about 100m and turn right onto the rock step up out of the water and up onto the track! Its full on and the old hilux I was in, required controlled throttle but the prob occurred up the track when we were in a full wheel lift, full throttle on a big step up and then had to break hard to stop slipping backwards, then bang, the diff went. The lead vehicle Hilux sr5 made it all the way to the top. auto with lockers but still a bit of an ask! Don't need to wreck vehicles, won't be doing that again!! LOL

Love that part of the VHC. I remember coming down south Basalt Knob (damn - about 20 years ago now) before they cut the zig-zags in it. Near the bottom there were a couple of steep bits that were a foot deep in powdery black dirt - we had zero control going down, just slippery slid it. No way would anything but a comp truck have gone up. Bulltown is a great drive, so was Collingwood Spur and Reynold's track. So many good tracks around Talbotville.

Then just continued north still in the Crooked River Track, there is the Good Hope Mine site, worth a look. At the end of CRT you start in Bulltown Spur which takes you to McMillans Rd which can take you back down to Talbotville or keep heading up towards Grant Historical Area, and onto Dargo High Plains Rd.

Hey Gav, Im taking notes to do the crooked river track up to Talbotville camp ground But I am a bit confused Can you clear this up please. You crossed over the Kingwell bridge then came back through the river BUT at the river exit you turned right heading back towards the bridge. I was under the impresson that to get to the crooked river track you had to turn left at the steep river exit and you have the Woonangatta river on your left as you drive.
