- In 1970 Sultan Qaboos overthrew his father and set Oman on a program of rapid modernization, opening it to the outside world. This 2017 report shows the fear many of the youth held for a future without Qaboos, who had no direct heir.
This report was filmed, edited and produced by Hannah Gaber.

"The Lounge is a business hub for youth we'd like to inspire the younger generation to start working on their projects", explains Lounge co-founder Fatma Bahwan. It is one of many projects seeking to grow the private sector in Oman. Intern Mahmood Al-Zadjali sees a youth who don't want to just "grow up, go to college, get a job, get married, die. That’s not how we're supposed to do it".

Please Oman, don't ever give up your culture, you're beautiful and unique. Your people are so vibrant. I spent many years of my childhood in Oman (I'm 38 now) and I came back in 2012 and saw so many changes. Some good, some bad. Please carry on being a light in the world.
I think Oman is easily the best country to live and work in, in the GCC. There is no politics, there is no tax, Muscat is a gorgeous city, driving around Muscat is awesome, Omanis are very humble, you can just live a truly self governed life here! What I really enjoy about living in Muscat is the space, everyone is just doing their own thing and chilling! Oman is a country that has showed me that it doesn't matter what kind of governance a country adopts, the most essential thing is to have a society that is considerate and can govern themselves at the individual level!
I have been living in Oman and have been amazed by the beauty of the country: the people, culture, and landscape. interesting to see this perspective and movement within the country.
Stay there and don't come back to the West.
Hey Natasha, don't listen to this ^^^ guy.. glad your'e having a great time there and being a great embassador for that country! I hope to visit one day!

Greets from Latvia.
my favourite country in the gulf is oman and love the people of oman who are genuine unlike the other gulf states ..
This was a really great video! Beautiful scenery and nature! And great discussion about the past, present and future
Wow, never new an Arab country like this ever existed. I mean they are so broad and open minded people.
Auzra AFG There are lots of them! I have found Arabs to be basically very decent and good people!
The reason is Omani follows Ibadisim Islam the most close islam to origin and they spelled ocean of blood to protect it from the RADICALS
Love Oman. I worked in Oman 1980
Solution can be given when people have equality but in Oman you have to be connect to make a change! Someone has to give freedom to the Omani businesses to start and open a business to create jobs but the people working in the system at MOCI do not have a business knowledge !
2:26 That is *exactly* what student's need to hear at American Universities. If the Omanis learn the best we can offer but don't copy our errors, like third wave feminism, broken families and entitled children, who knows what this nation could become?
Lot of cheap labour was imported from neighbouring countries to build Oman to what it is now. Wish there was some reference to that!
the whole gulf countries had and have built their countries using cheap labour from india Bangladesh Pakistan Afghanistan ...
Yes, all the oil based gulf economies benefited and still are enjoying it. This documentary didn't even show or make any reference to their contributions...really sad.
Yes, all the oil based economies in the region enjoyed the benefits of cheap labour. There should have been some reference to their contribution...maybe it was deliberate. Even in the future, I am sure the immigrants will play a role...to a lesser extent.
Same thing for Armenians in Turkey , blacks in America, stop complaining
cpetch10 incorrect before oil omanis built a lot of villages and castles across eastern Arabia they were laborers in there.
Peace,,,,, lots of love from South Africa
Love from Oman to all our brothers and sisters in South Africa🌸
All Arab leaders should take a leaf out of Oman 's book. But too late as devil creeped under thier skins.
Amazing ❤
Why would they want to be western hipsters?
Iron age goat herding is sustainable. Western hipsterism lasts only as long the finite resources last. And now we are at peak oil...
Clearly an ambitious and creative people recognising oil has no future.
Nice country. Great people.
Masha 'Allah ala sultankom Qabus khayr hokam.. Allah ishafih wa yaaffih insha'Allah
Signing out. Salaam alikom
I honestly call it Islamic heaven country..Masha'aAllah
I love oman💗
May ALLAH increase the life of the sultan. People of oman if the sultan passes away without choosing a leader do not start fighting come together and choose someone who is capable of his position even if he is a slave if you start fighting other nation will take advantage of oman. Sit down choose someone like how the sahaba did?🤲🤲🤲
Wish to visit this amazing country soon
nice. my wish is join to Oman - from jeddah
what is the Arabic song used in the intro???
Make cooperatives, fuck private sector. This idea that you have to go out on your own to exploit workers and profit as much as u can off them its destructive. Work together, force the government to work for the common interest of everybody, and build up society/business that way
BissmiAllah,
Oman is not in a box,.oman is doing well hamdollah, take the good and positive from West development and let's build oman..am not omani and say it..because I respect your sultan qaboos, may Allah bless his health I speak Arabic living in west.for nearly 30 yrs.and can tell one or two things to avoid from West. To keep oman on right trucks inshaallah.

Why don't we do more to align with the people of Oman? They seem to be some of the most open, educated, tolerant people in all of Islam. Move our base from Qatar to Oman.
RISE OMAN LET BE A PATTERN IF THE WORLD..

Its amazing the effect that western culture has on the muslims that decide to adopt it and progress. Its a shame most of them are stuck in the middle ages...
the sultan of oman studied in India and in the west hence he has a brilliant vision for omans future ...
:) Is Oman also in the list of Trump's Muslim travel ban? Probably he has business in there and it's not.
U.S. definitely wouldn't ban their friend, especially considering that they're between U.S. and Iran.
Why other muslim country can't be like You Oman? Or Even muslim people.
The secret is in the Ibadisim Islam. Most omanis are i ibadisim and fun fact all arabs hate us for that 🙃
🆗🇮🇳
ik ben gewoon peter.nl
be real man hahaha ... scam
Didn't really learn anything..
I love the Oman
It was for me a wonderful Hollyday!!
why do you guys have a sultan! get rid of him
I think you don’t know anything about our country’s history... our sultan is the one who brought modernization to Oman , we live in peace, we mind our on business and we don’t like to get ourselves involved in conflict .
Brngo Mosam the sultan is very good in oman and if he is good people will automatically support him :')
Oman is the peace maker of the Middle East..The sultan believes in peace and having dialogue and good relations with all its neighbors..Such a wonderful and wise man
