Never really thought about Miley till I heard this. Now I have great respect for her as an artist. Never in a million years would I have thought she would cover this song and nail it. Amazingly surprising.
Let me apologise on behalf of NIN fans for the certain few children throwing temper tantrums that a pop musician would dare to touch their more niche song and acting like this cover doesn't have a right to exist. Personally I prefer the original but am really glad that Miley is branching out from her old generic pop sound and paying homage to a master like Trent, Im also glad for the amount of pop fans who probably only listened to what was being played on the radio who discovered NIN here and may have started a journey into other genres of music from this.

The fact that she performed this epically while going through a divorce, losing her house in a fire, being malnourished and running on empty because of her strict vegan diet and had a panic attack on the plane over there speaks volumes of her inner strength
As a musician, I can tell you, when it's time to go to work, you leave the rest of you life outside the stage, and you're in a totally different reality. I'd say health is the only one that can still effect you, when it gets bad enough...i.e.: Steven Tyler laying on the front of the stage with a bottle in one hand and the mic in his other hand, and not able to move, just screeching on the mic.....or Syd Barrett wobbling around the stage not even singing, while Roger Waters had to do all the singing, cause Syd was just too mentally ill to do anything....but....you look at people like Dave Grohl..built his own throne to perform on stage with a broken leg...I mean...music does wonders, but somethings even music can't fix. \m/ :) \m/
The fact that she can create a series of problems for herself than deal with the repercussions isn't impressive. Also because she's a talentless hack born into fame instead of earning it she borrows what other creative people have created and manages to make them lesser.
She already did the song, just a different version that Trent wrote. “On A Roll” she released as Ashley O, a character she played on some Netflix show. On A Roll and Right Where I Belong. Not bad for Pop tunes from Miley as Ashley O!

I think it is good that she is breaking new ground for herself rather than following in Daddy's footsteps. Will I buy a Miley CD? Not likely but I can appreciate the effort she is making.
NIN fan here. It's a good sound. The band nailed the spirit of the song, even if at times it sounds too much like the original as NIN performs it, with just Miley putting her vocals on it. But they all got the spirit and sound right and rocked out. It sounds ominous, mean, dramatic, and like an intense battle cry, which is what it needs to sound like. I like the the loud 4 notes in the final part that are louder than anything else. I can't tell if that was guitar or synth, but it brings that part out nicely at the end.
I don't understand what you're talking about. The performance is soulless and there's nothing invested. There are no questions about anyone except the vocalist, I just don't understand why she does this, like many other covers of great songs. It's also very funny that Industry Plant sings an anti-capitalist song. Technically the performance is not bad, otherwise it's tasteless, causes dissonance and makes you want to vomit.
