Totally good to see how much he's moved forward
Ronnie is very sympathetic and understanding on how Mark Allen feels. Never the less Ronnie a had rough childhood.
I like Mark a lot,I hope he finds what he’s looking for. All the best mate.
He clearly found the salad in his fridge!
What a turnaround he’s made. Good on him.
Well said
Depression is a mental state.... Marks top of the one year rankings list & feeling down.... Sometimes you need a break but you with the tour there isn't many gaps unless you crash out of a tournament early....Ronnie is a perfect role model.... Plays events he enjoys & a great attitude.... Eats well, trains well, punditry etc... Living life as it should be.....
Some turn around now he was definitely suffering from depression back then . Just goes to show times a great healer . Back on top well done Mark
Hard graft, perseverance, a great deal of help, all those things heal - time dulls memories, but very little else. Time contributed nothing to his recovery; that is all thanks to himself and those who supported him.
I like Mark Allen as a person and I enjoy watching him play. I hope he can get through the tough times and get back to his old self again.
Mark has been brilliant. He won the Scottish open in December. He spent the week on the piss... I think his alcohol consumption doesn't help, It catches you up and also causes depression.
Depression leads to drinking, not the other way around.
It’s a viscous circle - medically alcohol is a depressant.. genius
Hopefully Mark will have a chat with Ronnie, seems like a bit of depression
Yes this was also my thought. It sounds not good.
He hates Barry’s Hearns tour that’s the real reason
True, too many comps!
Yeah I like it when Ronnie steps up and asks him
I just think it's frustration with underachievement. These talented players always expect more than perhaps their game delivers on match days. Its hard for them to be so good and consistent on the practice table only for that form to fade when it counts. The mental exhaustion comes from not being able to figure that out, despite hours of adjusting technical aspects of their game. It simply comes down to an unknown cognitive mechanism in my opinion which is why it sparks a type of performance related depression.
Great to see marks progression both on and off the table
We love you Mark, one of the great personalities of the game.
Poor guy, genuinely feel sorry for him after that interview. The lad genuinely didn’t sound good they should of cut the interview short
I was reading that he got divorced which means he was most likely cleaned out by his wife. She had one eye on the money all the time and we know what country she comes from. He's close to bankruptcy and it looks like he won't even get most of the 70 grand he won for winning the northern ireland open.
In tonight's final its good to see him looking fitter deserves the victory
Presenter could have been a bit more professional and see he was struggling to communicate
This reminds me of Ronnie from way back. I really hope Ronnie can help him he clearly needs to change something in his lifestyle, hoping it will go away is not the answer.
Call Steve Peters , not for your snooker career but for your health Mark. Hope Barry Hearn is proud of burning these guys out, it’s disgraceful.
Come on lad you be fine mark take abit of time out come back strong. Take up running with ronnie lad get in shape. You be fine. 👍😊
Great bloke a fan from Cork city
that sounds quite serious
Mark Allen done so well to lose weight since this era....Ronnie O'Sullivan told him to lose weight and it would give him more energy to play better and win and what great advice that was!!!
Ronnie's sat there thinking 'hang on I am the one who does weird interviews'
Health mind, healthy body. He needs to change something that's going on in his personal lifestyle" hes done, or doing something he's not happy about. Hopefully ronnie will inspire him, an intervention if you like to get him back to where he should be. On a plus side here, hes speaking openly here that he's not in a great place" that's a start.. God bless you mark Allen, trust me, if you work on it surround yourself with the people who love you forevermore, positive people the proper support from a psychologist" it's all up hill from here.. 👊🤝🙏
hope he sorts it out, he's a great player!
O'Sullivan more than most understands the struggles of fighting the dark places and inner demons from within . Looks like a bit of depression or to much snooker.
Chris Evans Hows the new radio station job going?
Marks problems with the game illuminate similar challenges Ronnie is facing at the moment. Mark will get through it of course and come out the other side, his issues reinforce Ronnie's belief that slowing down, taking on fewer tournaments and generally just finding a way to decompress and get a sustainable life/work balance is the key
The problem is off the table with his divorce and the fact that he's nearly bankrupt which comes with getting divorced. His wife will claim a certain amount of money every month so he's a slave to the game in order to provide for her and the children until the kids turn 18.
Barry Hearn promised to switch him over to the Darts circuit if he got up over 20 stone the minimum for a darts player also no depression in that sport.. but he's really struggling to find them extra few pounds hence the frustration.
I suspect some snooker players rarely see sunlight - best cure for depression is sunshine, fresh air and exercise
Good luck Mark.
Fitness is good for the mind.
Mentally draining the game of snooker.
Glad he's seemed to have turned it around now.
I've always wondered if Ronnie and Jimmy would have played even better if he actually got support through their depression rather than being ridiculed.
I would be a bit alarmed by the tone of his comments if I was sitting next to Mark during this interview. He is seriously struggling with depression or something, and he needs help of some sort.
He needs a real mans job. He’s had it too easy.
Mark sounds so down...not a good place to be as I know myself from my past but it will pass...booze and weight isn't the issue as some have commented. ..needs professional help and medication to take edge off..neither are to be ashamed off in any way...what do sent break you will make you stronger and tomorrow's a new day...best wishes to all here..☺☺
Why are so many snooker players depressed?
Sounds stupid to us but to many tournaments
Have you played snooker? It's great but so infuriating
Yes schedule is punishing
Unlike team sports, there isn't as much exercise and practice can be just as infuriating. Too many tournaments also a problem. Stagnation at the top level could for sure make you fall out of love with the sport but most of those who take a break come back stronger, inb4 Ronnie.
The 7 game format is stupid. It makes all the practice etc of the top players irrelevant. Any player can run a century or game winning clearance and on a good day can knock out any of top professionals. It takes a couple of games to get used to the table...so important for players that rely on subtle cue ball control. In a 7 game format a top player can make it to the table less than 10 times before the frame is over. Then off to the next ranking title for another 7 game format... depressing to watch so must be really depressing some days to be a top player.
On tour all the time...in hotels junk food and alcohol...bad mix...plus stress and exhaustion... all Barry's doing...same with the dart players...
Why don't they play in less tournaments then... Does Barry force you into playing in everything?
There is soo many tournaments the best players can’t play all of them therefore the best players don’t always win
"the best players don’t always win" ?? Robertson played Bingham in the final here - two former World Champions both ranked in the top 16. What's wrong with that? - there really isn't much between the top 32 players - much though the Ronnie fans, Selby fans, etc might like to think differently!
lsbrother nobody said anything wrong with it. It’s just that players get burnt out playing so many tournaments it gives players who have been losing in the first rounds more chance to win
He almost certainly is suffering from depression. The longer the initial episodes last without treatment the more long lasting the effects on life. I hope he addresses it soon.
Its odd that so many snooker players have bad depression
a dark place? well he is in wales
A lot of pressure in the lime light you just got to put it behind you keep moving on😒🙂
Get that psychology coach work with Ronnie
He doesn't look well at all hopefully he can pull through his troubles and get back to his best
The professional snooker circuit is certainly not a happy place.
Somebody needs to get hold off him and let him talk not in front of TV cameras. He doesn’t look well at all, fingers crossed it’s just a off day and nothing to more serious!
looks like he needs to need to chill out with a double cheeseburger, fries and milk shake
He looks like wwes Hornswoggle.
When you marry a beautiful foreign woman from a particular country you know she's got one eye on the money and now Mark Allen is left close to bankrupsy after his divorce.
I always thought mark looked like a farmer
where? under his gut
I don't care
Karma will bite you for that comment
Do some exercise
try working for a living
I have never liked Mark Allen...mainly because of his childish attitude and actions. But the only way he can overcome whatever problems he has is to make the decision to do something about it. He can sit there and wail "Woe is me" as much as he likes, but really needs to get up off his ass and do something about it. There are a lot of good suggestions in the posts below, but none of them are worth anything unless Allen takes some action to change whatever it is that is affecting him.
Do you Know him personally?? I do!! And if you knew him you would know its not "woe is me" you all have comments on people you don't know!
It's easier said then done... When your depressed & down you simply don't want to do nothing.....un less you've suffered it I guess you'll never know how he feels..
He's playing much too slowly now
