Wings of Pegasus Thanks for doing this. You have so much insight and knowledge to share. Definitely more satisfying to hear your thoughts on his live performance rather than a prerecorded miming performance. I would LOVE to see you react to more live performances by him. Anyway, as a huge Dimash fan, I think I speak for all of us "Dears" when I say thanks for doing the live reaction!!! How about some more??? You have a great way about you of explaining things. Pls do more Dimash for us??🙃

I heard him live in London! There is this richness and power to his voice that one can't hear through the speakers at home. I love Dimash because he doesn't use autotune etc, he sings live most of the time (even in Russia, when it's a solo concert), and he sings like no other. For me the best singer, and I'm sure others could agree that he is the most unique singer out there. I just can't think of any other singer with such a wide vocal range, a variety of singing styles, zero hesitation to sing in a dozen languages, and who can also compose and play various instruments. And after all the success, remains humble. My favourite female singer, Eva Ayllon, has recently declared Dimash to be the best singer... so I reassured myself that I'm not crazy! Thanks Fil for your videos. It was particularly fascinating to hear about the relation between his hand movements and vocal chords, as well as mental imagery, such as playing the piano.

Thank you for putting Dimash in such a bright light. He really deserves it. Everyone knows every singer might mime their songs sometimes. It depends on their health condition, or studio or show rules. What makes me mad, is that every-time when he has a performance someone has to fight in the groups to convince the fans he’s sang in playback. WE DO NOT CARE and that’s because we know already who’s Dimash, we know his huge potential. As fans( dears) we should support this brilliant young man, cause he deserves it in full.

This is an absolutely fascinating analysis and explanation. I always thought Dimash sang with his hands, but now I know why and how, and I'll be watching his hands even more now. It makes me appreciate even more just how hard he is working as he gifts us with his spectacular voice.
I'm not surprised at all by the fact that sometimes he is forced to lip sync. I knew that Russia specifically had certain rules about it. I just feel bad for Dimash that he has to do it even when he'd much rather sing live.

It lightens my heart that you took the time to do a second analysis and dig into his skill in a live performance. Most of us know artists have to lip sync sometimes. Thank you so much for this reaction. As someone who was classically trained for 8 years during my youth, I definitely appreciate this. And with a fanbase as large as Dimash's, you're going to find that section that is more fanatic than fan. I've run into them myself. There are some who want to imagine that he's absolutely perfect and that isn't true. So many people call him an alien or angel, etc, which I take personally a bit, I guess. He wasn't born with this ability. He was born with longer vocal cords than most and with perfect pitch and some innate ability but he had to work his ass off for 20 yrs to achieve this. So to say he's not human, to me it steps on all those hundreds of hours of dedicated work. It's unfair to him. Also, a run-in I had once was when I watched a video which was obvious miming and I just stated that I, personally, prefer his live performances and I got chewed up by a couple of fans. "I was there live and I can tell you he was singing..." etc. You're never going to please those people as long as you plan on being honest with your experienced opinions. So please do what you do and take those people with a grain of salt. You did well. =)

Appreciate you for doing this! I completely agree about his postures and have noted it way earlier!
I would also like to say, being a trained singer myself, and having observed him during rehearsal and live performance in person,he is completely capable of reproducing the studio version if required to a 98% accuracy. Except being able to catch very minute tonal shifts or a drag here, or an aah sound there, you won't be able to tell it apart with software.
He is the master of vocals!
My personal understanding is that he is bound with Igor to rework his songs, and when he performs with Igor, he may/may not have the freedom of free singing at all times, bar a few ones like this venue in Russia.. He does sing live though under the track even in such cases.
You can check SOS from singer and SOS from ABU festival in Japan 3 days back to see how differently he presents the same song!

Thank you Thank you for your analysis of his hand gestures. I had noticed his hands give a hint of what is going on with his voice - as when he is going up to a higher range, he raises his hand over his head somewhat, with his index finger and thumb touching. Sometimes when he trills, he looks like he is strumming the instrument native to Kazakhstan and sometimes piano. His hands and fingers are long and slim, and he is so graceful. His performances are events.

Dimash singing SOS in Singer 2017 is the gold standard of analysis and reaction videos. This song is what put him on the map. It is a very difficult song to sing and he sings it masterfully mindboggling. It is a very sad depressing song and he has the right expressions throughout the entire song to do the words and music justice like no one else can. But right at the end of the song, he can't keep from smirking just a bit, because he knows he nailed it. Watch it just for the smirk. But do an analysis. People from all over the world check every week just to see the latest analysis of this video. You will get lots of hits and fans you would not get otherwise.

Soooo interesting analyzed!!!! I went to Dimash's concert once (WOW Arena) and realized how much more connection you see between his vocals and body in comparison to lipsynced videos in a way he approaches new phrases or notes with intense face expressions and body movements. He sang every song differently from the studio version and very creatively and unique. When you miss some nice moment you used to from the recorded song, you get just right after even more to be stunned by. The mimed performances which are usually the most popular because of TV and the quality and the occasion make me think that artists probably can’t sing that good at all and raise suspiciousness in me which I don’t like.

Wow! Brilliant analysis -- that first 6 minutes (heck, the entire video) is pure gold. I'm not the only one who has noticed the hands of Dimash and I have often noted to myself the same thing you mentioned: that he paints a song in the air around him (as though he were conducting himself). It's so cool to hear you actually bring up how he synchronizes his hands with the movement of his vocal cords. And some things about his mimed performances now make more sense to me: he does use his hands in most of them but not nearly as effectively (or purposefully, I should say) as he does in a live performance. That doubles the sense I get of lack of connection with his audience: the hands are just flailing about and he is doing impressive and dramatic moves, but they have little organic connection to the internal workings that would produce the sound.
I hope you get a chance to analyze some of Dimash's other live, especially earlier, performances. He's truly a magnificent singer and interpreter.
In Moscow, in March, Dimash did two concert performances of this song, then more typically titled "Ascolta la Voce." They were both live. Russian TV later released the "official" version of the concert, with a studio overlay of the audio for this song. The song has been reworked a bit since then, to give the one in your recent videos, and the title is now "Know." There's even a nice MV of it.
(BTW, that's Dimash's father sitting with him on the couch in that one clip.)

The reason many fans got extremely disturbed when the idea of lip-syncing came out is that there are certain people who made their lives' mission to accuse Dimash of lip-syncing all the time. If a song is sung the same way it's by default lip-synced. If the song is so different from other versions they would say he lipsynced in certain parts and sang live in a few notes, which is simply ridiculous. They even say he creates different versions of studio tracks to lip-sync to. Basically nothing can ever prove to them that Dimash ever sings live, unless he makes a mistake, which is very very rare. Obviously these people are haters for whatever reason. Many Dimash fans are sick and tired of fighting these accusers on YT and other social media outlets. That's why we get this knee-jerk reaction to any such accusations. However, as long as there are good evidence showing the contrary, all of us fans are willing to accept the facts. We will not, however, submit to the logic that a performance is automatically lip-synced as long as it's flawless and (to the naked, untrained ear) sounds the same as the studio version or another performance.

Wow, so refreshing to see such authenticity in a reaction. I think most of us reactors are often complicit of being overly positive and rarely point out negative things by fear of getting destroyed in the comments. For example, I never published our Dimash "Notre Dame de Paris" reaction because as a French-Canadian I didn't like that performance at all (I could not understand a single word). I am sure other reactors also never publish some negative or neutral reaction, and it's a shame really because it gives a false impression that we are all always on the same page.

Just because that one person, who is probably isn't even Russian, told you that ALL the performances on the Russian TV are lip synced doesn't make it true. There are lots of shows that air live. Often times, it's written in the top corner of a screen that it's live (Живой Звук in Russian) but not necessarily...Anyway, there are plenty of live Dimash performances from Russia...And with his perfect pitch and his amazing mastery of his voice, he can improvise on scene or he can choose to sing a song EXACTLY the same as he did in a recorded version. I've been to his concert and I've seen enough of his rehearsals to say that.
Speaking of his hand movements, he does that mental imagery a lot and it's fascinating to watch, but again he doesn't do it all the time. It's not like he won't be able to hit a certain note if he doesn't help himself with hand gestures. Also, his body language, including his arms/hands movements, represent the lyrics of this song. Like here in this performance, when he put his hand over his heart, he was singing that love tears the hearts...when he opened his arms, the line he sang was about the lovers having two wings...

@@wingsofpegasus I wanted to add this too. Not all Russian concerts are playback. Even the first know at new wave, if you take a look at his larynx, you will notice the hole when he goes to the stoccatos, it's clear in fancam. That's why I say, he always sings live, doesn't mime, but at certain events they use the track. Ppl mistake it thinking he never sings it.
And he actually interprets the lyrics with the hands as well.
So I request you to take a look at his face, neck and larynx apart from the body postures to analyse his live performances.
Now , if he doesn't move his hands or do any gestures that you pointed out,, again ppl will accuse him of playback. Its very difficult for many to accept that he can do it live. Many of us have heard him at rehearsal without the whole backing , so it's really annoying when even his live performances are called fake.
He sings different songs with different gestures.
So when you do his next one, chip that in please.

Dimash never ever lipsyncs, even when he should. I recall one period of time-last year, I think-where he had a bad throat infection for a good couple weeks or so. He would have been entirely justified to lipsync so as to spare his throat the extra trouble when it was already in poor condition, but he still sang live. Had to get steroid injections in his throat on a few separate instances just to be able to sing at all. There's one video from that time where you can actually see how red his throat was...unfortunately, I've lost the link to that one :/

    • @Gorgina010
      @Gorgina010 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@youlleatamuffinandlikeit4596 If Dimash sings live with a throat infection and needs injections to be a able to do it, he is an IDIOT. If he continues doing it, his career will be very short, because he will loose his voice soon. But it seems, you don't use your brain, either, if you don't realize, that human body gets irreparably damaged, if one repeatedly abuses it. You admire him here for an extremely unhealthy behavior, which will inevitably destroy his singing ability. What a waste of a great talent and many years of hard work. And his world tour is starting soon, with way too long, way too physically exhausting (due to dancing/running/jumping), too frequent concerts and the little time between them spend on airplanes instead of resting and vocal training. If what you say is true, then 2020 will be the end of the great singer Dimash and during that year he will deteriorate into a mediocre pop singer, if he is lucky, and if he is unlucky, his voice will get destroyed completely and he won't be able to perform at all.

When he has to mime it doesn’t bother me, it’s still his voice.!

From the beginning of watching Dimash, I've noticed he uses his voice as if it's a musical instrument.

I'm no expert, but I've also heard what Russian television will do is take a performance that WAS performed live & slap a pre-recorded track over it when it airs. I believe there are fan cams of these kinds of performances, that show he was singing live & giving a lovely performance & for some reason they feel the need to have the studio audio instead. Great analysis, but the way!

I appreciated both of your videos! I read the comments on the first one and thought a lot of people were missing the point because you were still saying how good Dimash is! I didn't know that you LS on Russian tv so good job for the clarification! I am a 'Dear' so Dimash, to me, has an amazing voice and ability, which I can see you think so too, so thanks for both analysis's (?) Rock!
