    cant wait for part 2, and i think your brazing turned out pretty well considering the difference in thickness.never tried it but i am horrible at soldering so probably wouldnt be to good at brazing

    I've never welded copper with my everlast welder before. This would be fun to try.

    Thanks! Unfortunately I got rid of my oxyacetylene setup so have to do everything with the propane cutting torch!!

  • @garyhuston
    @garyhuston  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's a "Miracle" bender, bends flat stock upto about 4" x 1/4", although you really have to lean on the 5 foot handle to bend anything that size!!

  • @Bobbycat115
    @Bobbycat115 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Gary Try a gas welding tip a cutting torch is not for welding or braising you will have more success with the proper tip and propane dose not work use acetylene and oxygen .
    I enjoy your Videos I own a 2 1/2 CWT John Brooks anvil and love to use it 280 LBS for us old school Canadians .From the west coast of Canada keep them coming

  • @kbbacon
    @kbbacon 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good project! I use a smaller tip to braze.

  • @garyhuston
    @garyhuston  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks, I would have used a welding tip but I don't have acetylene any more, it's too expensive to rent the bottles just to use them once or twice a year!

    Do a search for IR cut-off filter or IR blocking filter. That should get you in the right direction.

    What is that large metal fixture behind your vise used for?

  • @clearsailing7993
    @clearsailing7993 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It's not good to breathe copper dust from the cut off wheel. You can buy copper in sheets and cut it with tin snips or a jig saw.

  • @garyhuston
    @garyhuston  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure what to look for. All the IR filters I can find are for letting the IR through and blocking everything else, surely I need the opposite!

  • @cogzoid
    @cogzoid 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not sure which camera you use, but you might be able to find a decent IR filter for your camera model. I did a quick google and found some for less than $20. They double as decent protection from flying slag damaging the more expensive optics. This way you won't have to explain that "it looks hotter than it is" every time you work with hot metal. :)

    No , problems arise beyond ones control, just now catching up. Watching now it seems like the hand is much better..

      @garyhuston  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on how long ago you last watched I’ve had problems with both hands and several operations, one failed and redone. Mostly ok now except for no feelings in one finger.

    I have collected various sizes and lengths of copper pipe over about 15 years of service plumbing with the intention of selling it as scrap... until this video. I am thinking some type of copper ivy leaves under the eave overhangs. Is there some way to actually harden the copper after it been quenched? Copper ivy with a beautiful patina, yup.

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Bassett working the copper hardens it, heating to cherry red and quenching will soften it.

    • @brianbassett4379
      @brianbassett4379 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garyhuston It's absolutely beautiful to see you be able to peel that pipe open with your fingers. Can't wait to see the finished spinners.

      Sorry I don’t remember. But it doesn’t really matter, as long as it fits your tube and spindle.
